i'd say the average z06 owner cant even run high 11's in stock form, but some of the really good drivers can probably nail something in the 11.1-11.3 range

GM announces pricing for 2006 Corvette Z06

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Oshawa, Ontario - GM Canada has announced that the 2006 Corvette Z06, the fastest Corvette ever, will arrive in dealerships this Fall with an MSRP starting at $89,900.

The Z06 will achieve 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds in first gear, and comes with a standard manual six-speed transmission. It carries a 7.0-litre (427 cid) V8 engine that makes 505 hp at 6300 rpm, and 470 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm, with a 7000 rpm redline.

Other features include an aluminum body structure with one-piece hydroformed perimeter rail frame and magnesium engine cradle; carbon-fibre composite front fenders, front wheelhouses and floors; dry-sump lubrication system; and engine, transmission and differential oil coolers and steering cooler.
Very fair CAD price considering a Viper is $125K.

I wonder if it'd be possible to make the pushrod 7L engine run efficiently until 7250rpm. IT probably be able to achieve 625HP or so. It'd be suitable for the Blue Devil in that case.

Are you suggesting 250RPM's = 120HP? or 250RPM + a supercharger = 120HP?

EDIT: I am suggesting the former only it's almost 1000 rpm, not 250rpm. Maybe I was not clear. 7250 rpm was the hypothetical HP peak. Redline could be at 7500rpm or so.

C6 Z06's are being delivered about 4 months ahead of schedule... I know this because a friend of mine had one on order, and had been told it would be delivered in December 2005...... well guess what - he got a call from Chevy the other day saying the car was ready.... he was like - he was not 100% set on the car yet - (decision-wise and $$$-wise) - so he had to cancel the order...

but anyway... keep your eye out for em on the street!!! another friend said he actually saw one here in Chicago the other day....

That info sounds a little fishy.
First of all, I thought 2006 production was scheduled to start the first week of September and the first cars are scheduled for mid September delivery.
And second, Z06 delivery spots are going for 10-20 thousand OVER MSRP right now on EBAY.

If your friend had access to a loan for 30-days he could have turned the car and made a quick 10,000 bucks or more.

There are plenty of Preproduction Z06’s running around right now. They’ve been building them alongside the 2005 C6’s for a few months now.
Unfortunately, after testing they’re all gonna get crushed.

good points. just sharing the info I got. I am not 100% sure of all the details, there may be other things involved - but he is not a 'fishy' guy - and I do know some fishy guys... lol

It’s probably more likely that his dealer had quite a few deposits for the Z06.
His allocation was probably originally a December delivery.
If a few people in front of him in line backed out, then he got moved up the list.
Lots of people are bailing because of the price or expected cost of insurance.

more "rumor mill" news...

http://www.autoblog.com/

"According to rumors, the upcoming 2006 Corvette Z06 will run the 1/4-mile in 11.5 seconds with a trap speed of about 127 MPH. That’s extremely quick for a car on production street tires, and the trap speed indicates that some drag tires and a good driver will probably be able to thrash this thing down into the 10s with a well-prepped track (magazine hot-shoe Evan Smith might even do that on street tires on a good day). If that trap speed sounds just a bit fast for a car that’s rated at 505 HP, you might be correct. GM is said to be reconsidering the HP rating, which had already been adjusted from an initial claim of 500 HP. What it might end up being, we have no clue. It’s probably not going to see a leap of 50 HP like the pre-launch revision for the Ford GT, but GM may very well be trying to wrestle the crown for most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 away from AMG’s new 6.3L V8 which would only take another five ponies."

the Z06 gets pretty good fuel economy, given its performance... 16 city 26 highway... that ain't bad at all imo for a car that is this fast...

and oh yeah, the Z06 is officially up at Chevy's website...

I don't see how anyone could be bummed by that, can imagine only a rare few will be able to ever reach that limit.

Any reason why they couldn't be stripped and sold to race teams?

the new issues of C&D and MT have hit some news stands...... both have the new Z06 on the cover.....

there's a yellow one on C&D's cover, and the title is "The Corvette from Hell". They got 11.7@125 mph, 0-60 in 3.6 sec, 0-100 in 7.9 sec, .98g on the skidpad.

MT got 11.5@127.1, 0-60 in 3.7, 1.02g on the skidpad.

look for em

Well the magazines have hit their subscribers' hot little hands and here's the breakdown:

0-60 in 3.5-3.6
1/4 in 11.5@125-127
Road-Handling: .96-1.05g

Price: $65,800 ... Major option: $2,800 Navigation package with a couple of extras.

Most amazing stat - 16-19mpg City/26-29mpg Highway =o

In Canada anyway the price ($90K) is an absolute steal considering a Viper goes for $125K

Best bang for buck I can think of.

It appears so but until their tested head to head (same track/day etc) we won't know for certain.

But even if its a tenth or two slower, (which I doubt) for the money it can't be beat.

what the hell?? On that picture a few posts above, it says 19/29 for mpg??? That's better than the standard C6. That must be a misprint.

The Z06 is close but is not faster or quicker then the GT. Some mag has gotten the Ford GT to do the 1/4-mile in 11.2s@132MPH, which was only .02s slower, then the Enzo in the comparison test. Also the Ford GT tops out at around 205MPH.
