From the side, the new Vette looks awesome. It appears that overall, it is shorter (especially the front) and wider then its predecessor ..

Leave it to the Assuie's, no Delco radio there either, Blaupunk instead (all the car mags have the GTO review in it this month).
Too bad the GTO looks like a grand am:'( Next year they are supposed to change the looks already! So much for a 3-4 year tooling cycle!
The Holden looks much better IMO.

corvettes are the sh*t.
my mom has a 2004 black on black convertable vette and it is a top quality machine. the design and feel of it in general is amazing, you can hit corners at higher speeds than any ricer could dream of.
im liking the look of the new vette, i beleive that we are selling our 04 one right now and will probably upgrade when the new ones out.

Concerning the C6 spy pix....apparently these were taken at prep for a GM ad/commercial photoshoot....a fluke indeed. To my eyes, if the pix are truly legit (appears so) I'm delighted.
I've had a C6 on order for 18 months, and these photo 'looks' suit me fine. If it has the rumoured 6 litre LS6 Z06-based block, at 400+ HP, then were away to the races. Those cross-drilled rotors are ominous....likely with the RPO Z51 option package.
Major differences of the C6 vs C5 (I've had 2 C5s, including my present Z06), are the exposed projector headlights (I hope they look as good as the new NSX), some new swoopy fender lines like the C3 (coke bottle), 4 round tail lights (great), 18" front and 19" rear wheels/tires blacked-out rear fascia surrounding the 4 exhaust tips, completely new front end....etc., etc.
Looks super to me.....

Autoweek reports that the engines will be an uptuned version of the current 5.7 liter LS6 bumped to 425HP and a 500+HP V8 of unknown displacement.

The 2005 Chevrolet Corvette is to be unvelied at the 2004 Detroit auto show in January. However, a keen spy photographer caught a glimpse of the much-anticipated 6th generation sports car.
Since the current model already offers powerful V-8 performance at a competitive price, the changes in store for 2005 are likely to be refinements rather than a complete overhaul.
The C6 will share its chasis with the Cadillac XLR and will probably be priced close to the current model, which starts at $44,000.

We know we got the Displacement On Demand functionality incorporated with this 4th Generation small-black GM engine.
So what was missing was high revs. And now we got that too. Comparing the Italian school (hint: Ferrari), where high revs is the name of the game for high HP results (although displacement has been reaching USAmerican levels lately), I believe, GM wins.
Why? Because, the OHV design is so much cheaper, moderately more reliable, uses a lot less gas and makes so much more low end and mid range torque, you cant but call it a winner.
Final note: 6.3 liters from 8 cylinders = 787.5 cc per cylinder. Max power at 7000 rpm.
Comparing that to the 3.6 liters from the Modena = 450 cc per cylinder. Max power at 8500 rpm
Murcielago's V12 at 6.2 liters = 516cc (although comparing a V12 is not a fair comparison - works totally differently - though inertia is inertia). Max power at 7500 rpm.
Many more examples...
Bottom line, it's harder to make large parts move at high speeds and it's even harder to make an OHV design operate at high speeds.

What the Devil's going on? Corvette team said to be working on Ford GT fighter

THE 2005 C6 CORVETTE hasn’t even been officially introduced, but the Corvette development team is already hard at work on future, high-performance variants, including a wild 600-plus horsepower Ford GT-fighter known internally as “Blue Devil.”
While chief engineer Dave Hill has publicly announced the Z06 version of the next-gen Vette due in 2005 will have 500 hp, his engine team wasn’t sure until recently that they could actually achieve that impressive figure. Sources now say that it will be a case of “nothing beats cubic inches” with 95 extra horses (compared to today’s 405-hp Z06) coming as a result of boring and stroking the next-gen Chevy small-block V8 to 427 cubic inches—7.0 liters. Not since the late-1960s has that magic number of cubes been under a Corvette’s composite hood (though there were some 454s along the way).
More important, Chevy is clearly investigating an ultra-performance Corvette designed to do battle with—and conquer—the mid-engined GT from rival Ford, as well as many supercars from across the pond. Called Blue Devil (no one knows why it has that name—could it be Chevy hopes to bedevil Ford’s blue oval?), unofficial stats make the name seem appropriate. Reportedly producing 625 hp, Blue Devil’s initial power will come from a supercharged 427 engine—and it will use lightweight carbon fiber for key body parts, reducing weight by several hundred pounds to drop the super C6 to about 2900 pounds.
The price indicated on the internal documents is $100,000 for Blue Devil, if and when it actually makes production in 2006—at the earliest. We wonder whether the Devil’s chances of seeing light are further improved following product czar Bob Lutz’s comments that he’d like to see a Chevy-badged car like the 2002 Cadillac Cien concept.
General Motors officials aren’t connecting the dots and saying this is a “go,” but the high-performance heart of Blue Devil is the kind of specialized, high-content engine project envisioned for the General’s new Performance Build Center set to open shop next year in Wixom, Michigan. The center is intended to attack projects with “a sort of race team mentality,” says Ed Koerner, vice president of GM Powertrain engineering operations.
Patterned after low-volume race shops, the center could build up to 10,000 powerplants per year for very specific, high-end, high-performance GM vehicles. Koerner says engines from the shop should appear in showroom vehicles by 2005.

So you got the base Vette with 400HP for $45K, the Z06 Vette with 500HP and $55K and the Ultimate Vette with 625HP and lighter by 250-300 pounds for $100K. Hmm...

Supercharging a 7 liter engine and getting only 625HP means that you have at least 600+ lb-ft of torque. That thing will be one of the torque leaders in any class I suspect. If we ever see that is...

See those are the things that will result in really nice offerings from USA automakers. That's partially the reason why we wont see SVT products for 1.5 years. They are kicking it up "a" notch and for that they need time and a big re-org.

Lets just hope that they are spending a few more bucks on the interior. I hate sitting down in the current C5 and feeling like most of the switches came straight out of a Crapalier.
