Chevrolet: Captiva News

GM Daewoo names first SUV Chevrolet Captiva; vehicle will not come to U.S. - - NORMAN THORPE | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek

INCHEON, Korea -- GM Daewoo's first SUV will be badged the Chevrolet Captiva, the company disclosed last week. The vehicle, which is scheduled to debut at the Geneva motor show in March, has been developed under the S3X name.

GM Daewoo will start selling the vehicle in Korea in April. European sales will begin in June.

"This will be the very first Chevrolet SUV developed specifically for Europe," Erhard Spranger, executive director of Chevrolet Europe, said here last week during a meeting with reporters.

The Captiva will not come to the United States.

The GM Daewoo-designed vehicle will be available with five or seven seats and will come in front-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. The company's first diesel, a 2.0-liter, 150-hp common-rail turbodiesel, will be offered.

The engine, developed by GM Daewoo in cooperation with GM Powertrain and Italy's VM Motori S.p.A., will be built in Korea. It is the first application of a family of diesels that will become available in other Chevrolet products in Europe, beginning in 2006.

Two gasoline engines, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V-6, also will be available.

If it's the S3X, then won't we see it come here basically as a Saturn (rebadged Opel variant). I always liked that SUV...

And the engines sound good too. I'm guessing the 2.4L Ecotec, and the very nice 3.2L (250HP) V6 co-developed with Fiat during the happier times.

Same as the US market Captiva? Which is just a Saturn Vue with Chevrolet badges on it.
A stripper rental version of the prior-gen Equinox.
