CanadianDriver review

CanadianDriver has done a review (10/17/03) of the 04 TL. Good pictures of white/parch too.

Hope the link comes through.

With a new wedge-shaped profile, taller sides, and a wider, more aggressive stance, the 2004 TL resembles the smaller Acura TSX from the front and sides, while the rear reminds me of, well, a Chrysler Sebring. In fact, there appear to be little bits of other cars mixed in to the TL's styling - a little bit of Mustang there, Audi here, Mazda there...this lack of individuality is disappointing. OK, there's nothing BAD about the styling, but it doesn't inspire the same kind of passion that a BMW 330i, Audi A4 or Infiniti G35 might - at least, in my opinion. I know I'll get some letters..
WTF

A4 or 330 passion ?? You better believe in your opinion.

"Models with the optional Navigation system have a rear camera which shows a view of the area behind the car in the video screen when the transmission is put in Reverse. This is a real bonus."

Why don't the US versions have that?

There is absolutely no memntion of that anywhere on acura.ca's website. I know a few people who have personally gone to TL unvelings and they did not mention this either. The guy is mistaken for sure.

Does this car need "more distinctive styling"? I'ts a radical shift for Honda, a notoriously conservative company.

They also mentioned that the price as tested was $41,800.00. They tested the Navi model which has a price of $44,000.00 plus freight and PDI.

As a matter of fact, I just called the same Acura dealer where I test-drove the TL last night, and was firmly told that the ONLY Acura in Canada which has the rear-view camera installed is the MDX.

Here's the response I got from the writer of the article. There is no camera on the Canadian TL.

Hi Domenic,

Yes, you're right. While I was in California testing the TL, I also drove the 2004 MDX with a Navi system and a back-up camera. Later, when writing the article about the TL with the Navi system, I got the two mixed up. I'll adjust the article. Sorry about that!

Sorry 04 TL guys, at least 1 writer still likes the TSX better.

Here's another response I got from the writer.

I don't know. I like the TSX better. I'm not sure why, but I think it's because it's more nimble and less ostentatious. And it gets better fuel economy and is cheaper. The TSX is a really nice package.

Nothing to be sorry about. The TSX is a great car. It's all about an individuals needs/wants in a car. For me personally, I drive nearly every day at an altitude of 4500 feet above sea level. Those living at high altitudes know that less oxygen means less HP and this saps the performance of any naturally aspirated engine. I also do a lot of driving over the Sierra Nevada mountains to Sacramento/San Francisco and appreciate a car with more power when climbing steep grades. The TSX just doesn't cut it in the HP/Torque department for my needs/wants and that leaves the TL as the perfect choice for me.

Now if the TSX had about 25 more horsepower and equally greater torque I would probably choose that as my next car. As far as FWD entry level luxury sedans go, you can't beat either the TSX or TL IMHO.

In Canada, the TSX doesn't even come with Navigation. So, if you're looking from a pricing point of view, the TL is a much better package. The TL-Navi is priced $9,000 (CDN) more than the TSX, but it has more powerful engine, a few more features, and Navigation.

For the TSX in the US which has Navi, it's an entirely different story.
