To be honest with you, I'm not even worrying about them. From what I understand these interiors are supposed to blow us away and set a new standard. Whether they do or not remains to be seen, but I have high hopes. The GMC Denali's interior will supposidly rival Caddy's, which is supposed to really be awesome.

My family is on our third Escalade (just got a new 2005 4 weeks ago) and as much as I dislike just about every American car made since 2000, I love it (been driving it the last month). Have never had any problems with it, rides like a cloud, and as bland as the interior may be, I find it quite comfortable. My dad was looking at the new RR before getting this last Caddy, but the RR just wasn't big enough (he's an AAU basketball coach and actually NEEDS that rear row of seats) and even though we both liked the Range a lot, he didn't hesitate to get another Escalade that looked just like his last. I'm sure this new Escalade will probably be the fourth in our family when it comes out....I can't wait to see it.

Every article that I read stated that the interior is going to be a huge improvement, so I don't think this should be an issue. Both SUVs look really clean and the lines flow well. I feel that if GM is going to suceed with these huge SUVs, they really need to focus on fuel economy. Displacement on Demand and a 6 speed auto should be standard on all of their larger SUVs. Heck, throw direct injection in the Escalade.

I actually think GM is wise. Rappers and stars created trends that boosted the sales of Cadillac's Escalade. Hell, look at big rims for example. Rappers started putting 20+" rims on SUVs and now they are standard on a lot of SUVs.

I think you and gav are both right to some extent...

True, the people BUYING these SUV's are not influenced by the likes of Xzibit.
However, the people uying these SUV's are influenced by others in their family, including their children.
Now, my dad hates rap music and has probably never heard of Xzibit, but he also doesn't like to keep his cars stock. Not knowing much about cars (except for what he likes and what he doesn't like) he turns to me for advice on aftermarket goodies. I'm not a huge rap fan, but I happen to think that big rims look good on big trucks, which I probably saw first on local atheletes vehicles and music videos alike.
Needless to say, my father, who is 42 and hates rap music has a set of 22's and a custom grill on his escalade.
Never underestimate the power of children, they are very influencing to even the most reasonable adult when they say "If you got that dad, you'd be SO COOL!"

Trends are fine and could be positive, but trends are a small portion of the equation in the end. Just because rappers or other celebrities buy a certain product, does not guarantee success in the general market. But if the product is great and people want it anyway, having celebrities buy it also, is a bonus.

GM needs to ask the MARKET what they want. Not the rappers.

Agreed.

But don't you think that GM did some research with that market as well, or simply put all their eggs in one basket with the celebs?

I think this is simply a way of continuing their popularity among that crowd AS WELL AS the majority crowd of buyers.

Trends have helped Cadilac, especially the Escalade. I am sure that the new Escalade will be a great product, so they get the best of both worlds.

King of Bling? Cadillac hoping hip-hop input will help make 2007 Escalade a hit - - Source: Autoweek

DETROIT -- General Motors might not have Snoop Dogg in a commercial. But it will have a Cadillac with factory-installed 22-inch wheels.

GM is still a few months away from unveiling its next generation of Cadillac SUVs, but the automaker already is nicknaming its 2007 Escalade the "King of Bling." GM can thank a few trendsetters for the tips.

Two years ago, during the early development of its next-generation Escalade SUV, GM brought in more than 30 of the biggest names in sports and entertainment as consultants on the vehicle.

A month ago, GM brought back the same group to make sure Cadillac got everything just right.

"We had a private showing to these same guys, and they gave us input that we then brought back," says Jim Taylor, Cadillac's general marketing manager. "They took another look, and I was pleased to hear from these hip-hop guys, 'I'm not going to have to do anything to this vehicle," in the aftermarket. "That was music to my ears."

To bling up the Escalade, Cadillac made 22-inch wheels optional (the 2006 model offers 20-inch wheels), added a glitzier chrome grille and used interior materials such as continuously lit white-LED backlighting and richer fabrics.

Taylor says designing the Escalade to meet the tastes of the influencer is not easy.

"It's a fine line," he says. "If it becomes commercialized, it looks forced, and immediately that group can turn on you."

The Escalade will be available in the first quarter next year.

This is the dumbest move I have ever heard a car company make. If a company builds a production car based on what the "hip-hop" group wants, won't that alienate the country, alternative, rock, and bluegrass groups from buying the car?

What about pop-rock? The boy bands deserve their own Escalade too!!!!

I think GM is trying to play it like they are taking all this "hiphop" advice when in reality the suv will end up having things it would have gotten anyways- bigger grill, larger wheels, better interior, etc.

I think the appearance of the next Escalade will be less outrageous than it is not, while continuing it's imposing stance. My guess is that it'll have a more subtle version of Art and Science, like the STS, while having very rich materials and options like 22's that people run to the aftermarket to do anyway. I know a 55yr.old white CEO guy who loves his Escalade EXT with Platinum package (20s)... I just hope the interior will be unique to Caddy. That's my only concern.

I never saw what was so great about an escalade anyway. How much does one cost fully loaded?

I'd take an AMG G55 over that shit anyday.

Is it just me or are they trying to copy the range rover lights and side grill?

By the way, I used to own a Escalade and really loved it except for one thing.. the Interior! Thats my only complaint. It needed a facelift bad!

Track Testing the 2007 Cadillac Escalade
By: Ed Hellwig

Date Posted 11-07-2005

GM has already revealed the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2007 GMC Yukon, and now we give you the best look yet at the final piece of the puzzle, the 2007 Cadillac Escalade. We caught it undergoing track testing at GM's Milford Proving Grounds and its minimal covering reveals some of the details that will be unique to the Cadillac's flagship SUV.

The front headlights look a lot like the SRX crossover with tall, narrow clusters that sit on either side of an even bigger grille with a prominent Cadillac crest front and center. Below the grille sits a sizable bumper with neatly integrated foglights and a more aerodynamic design that should help improve the Escalade's fuel mileage. Along with a more steeply raked windshield and tighter panel gaps, GM claims that its new full-size SUVs will be the most aerodynamically efficient vehicles in their class.

We haven't confirmed which engine the Escalade will use, but we do know it will be either a 355-horsepower, 6.0-liter V8 or a 380-hp, 6.2-liter V8. Both engines use variable valve timing to improve performance across the board with the 6.0-liter adding Displacement on Demand to improve mileage even further. The Escalade will also use an all-new six-speed automatic transmission that will eventually trickle down to the rest of the SUV lineup as production ramps up.

Interior design is one area where the Escalade hasn't always matched its competitors. The 2007 version will not only have more passenger and cargo room, it will feature high-end content like standard automatic triple-zone climate control, remote start and a larger DVD navigation screen. Although its overall design will mimic the Tahoe/Yukon twins, the Escalade gets its own unique instrument panel, seats, door trim and center console. White LED backlighting will be another Escalade exclusive feature along with fabric-covered roof pillars and optional heated and cooled seats.

To see exactly what this is all going to look like you won't have to wait much longer. The official debut of the Escalade is scheduled for Friday, November 11 at the South Florida Auto Show.
