Buick: Enclave News

GM dealers excited about upcoming crossover utes; GMC version to be called Acadia - - JAMIE LAREAU | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek

LAS VEGAS -- General Motors revealed the names of two of the three crossovers it will launch for the 2007 and 2008 model years at its Dealer Business Conference here last week.

...

The Buick version, which replaces the Rendezvous sport wagon and Rainier mid-sized SUV, has not been named, dealers told Automotive News. It is expected for the 2008 model year.

"The Buick mid-sized luxury sport 'ute' is a jaw dropper," says John Rogin, owner of Rogin Buick in Livonia, Mich. "It is dramatic."

...

The crossovers will be built on GM's Lambda architecture at the Delta Township plant near Lansing, Mich., which starts production next year. GM uses the term "architecture" to signify a common set of components, performance characteristics, a common manufacturing process, a range of dimensions and connecting points for key component systems.

I can't wait to see this one. It's really supposed to be a great lookin' SUV, very similar to the Centieme concept. It's interior is supposed to be top notch, and the engines are supposed to include the 3.6 HFV6 and maybe a V8 option, to combat the RX. If it's as good as the say it is, it'l'l be the best attempt yet of Buick offering the kind of product that one might actually aspire to.

I'm not really sold on that name. Why throw away a good name like Rendevous?

Because it wasn't a good name to begin with. People can't even pronounce it, let alone spell it (it's Rendezvous, BTW).

Excellent. They went with the Velite grill instead of an oval one.

Buick Enclave concept
The Buick Enclave crossover is expected to go on sale in 2007, replacing the Rendezvous and Rainier. It is being developed on GM's new Lambda vehicle architecture. The concept is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with dual-overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. The 270-hp engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It features all-wheel drive and four-wheel independent suspension.

Buick shows off Enclave crossover concept; production version due in '07 - - By JAMIE LAREAU | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS - - Source: Autoweek

DETROIT -- General Motors unveiled a concept version of its Buick Enclave crossover at the Detroit auto show on Sunday, Jan. 8.

The production version is expected to go on sale in 2007, replacing the Rendezvous and Rainier.

Like Buick's new Lucerne, the Enclave has the brand's famous portholes in the front fenders. The concept version has 21-inch tires with seven-spoke wheels and a skylight that extends almost the entire length of the passenger compartment. The concept is a six-seater. The production model will have seven seats.

GM says the Enclave will be on sale within 18 months. A spokesman says the Enclave will compete with the Lexus RX 330 and Acura's MDX. He declined to give a price range for the production model. The RX 330 starts at $38,465 and the MDX at $37,740. Both prices include shipping.

Looks nice but I'd never buy one outright. I'd lease one but that's it until GM can convince me that their vehicles can hold their value.

That thing is beautiful. And the concept's interior is stunning. This is exactly what Buick needs. It puts the MDX, RX, SRX, etc., to shame. This does what the Lacrosse failed at, and the Lucerne almost does; give Buick an all out, luxurious product, that'll be quiet, powerfull, and fully competitive. It'll also get the new 4.7L V8 (based on the current N*) after introduction. Way to go, Buick. It's a home run. Also on my very short list of SUVs a few years.

So if the Enclave gets 270HP from "Caddy's" 3.6L, what will the next CTS get? I saw more than 300HP.

This years show seems very deep in SUV/crossover's (No surprise really) I can easily see myself in any of the Edge, Enclave, CX-7, RDX and Sante Fe.

Very Nice!
If GM does not dumb it down too much, they will have a winner!

I was thinking the same. Especially with DI. I think that the whole arguement about "production constraints" of this engine is total bull. They can definitely produce enough of these engines to meet demand, and tune them differently, like the VQ, and Toyota's new 3.5, to suit the need and brand. This engine should make no less than 270HP for Buick applications, 300HP for Caddy applications, and 250HP for Saturn (the Aura, Outlook) Applications.

Yeah. It's the best interior I've seen from GM in awhile. It kills the the Caddys (except the Escalade). I have pics on my computer. How do I post them?

I don't think that interior is that good. In fact, I think it's overdone.

But the exterior is a different story. It's a lot better than the Lincoln Aviator/whatever that new name is, I think GM has a hit.

^ Yeah. It's a big ass SUV. Probably the biggest crossover made. Frankly, I like the size. I'm hoping it translates into actual, usable third row usability. I'll be real suprised if the last row of seats aren't able to fold down and disappear into the floor.
