awesome! So BMW beat out Honda in terms of putting their car into production, good for them. Honda will be putting the FCX into practical usage soon, so we now have 2 different extremes of the scale; affordable hydrogen and luxurious.
Now you KNOW Toyota is going to be taking serious cheat-sheet notes and come up with something soon.

2009 BMW 7-Series prototype spied
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/09/...ies-prototype/
Six months ago the world got to see the first pictures of test mules for the next-generation BMW 7 Series, as well as several illustrations. Now, spy Brenda Priddy has caught the the first pictures of what appears to be an actual 7-Series prototype. Even under huge fake body panels, we can see that the front end styling will be similar to that of the new 6 Series, and that the overall design will be "toned down a bit." The new 7-series is not expected to be released until sometime during the 2008 calendar year. Gallery after the jump…

How can you guys tell what it looks like? It has heavy body cladding rivted on all over.
For all you know, it may not even have a Bangle butt or any of the more current BMW styling cues.

No. What I'm saying is, all of the major panels on the body are obviously riveted onto the vehicle. No one can tell what's under those panels so I don't see how anyone can say it looks "85%" like the current one. What I said is, if all of these camoflauge panels are removed, it *MAY* not have a bangle butt. IOW, it may OR may not have the typical Bangle styling cues.

Not a fan of the 7-Series' interior, but that color combo makes it look much better.

Wow, that was quick! I guess its time since Mercedes just released their S Class. I remember when the previous S class came out.. everyone was getting one and BMW was being left in the dust (just by observing on the streets). Then the 7 series came out and shocked everyone. A lot of us were confused as to what BMW has done. Now its seems like deja vu all over again.

I'm the Firestarter
The latest C&D has a photoshop of the next-gen 7-series, they claim the butt will be completely unbangled... Their photoshop looks very hot.

2008 BMW 7-Series Spy Shots - - by Brenda Priddy (2007-02-01) - - Source: The Car Connection
We've seen spy shots of a 7-Series mule about half a year ago, but here's a new picture of a prototype testing near the Artic Circle. In addition, we've attached an updated illustration.
This test car features a completely new front end, similar to the 6-Series styling, and it's clear the current model's extravagant design will be toned down quite a bit.
The position of the headlights and turn signals indicate low mounted wrap-around headlights and a wide grille, as well as a sleeker body and a more elegant overall appearance.
The new 7-series is not expected to be released until sometime during the 2008 calendar year.

I feel the need...
Meh, don't see the attraction of these large saloons.
Maybe I'll feel differently in middle age, but I much prefer a tighter, lighter, more agile package.

BMW to launch hybrid 7-series in 2-3 years
From LLN...
BMW will offer a hybrid version of its all-new 7-series in two to three years, a new report finds. The next-generation 7-series is expected to launch later this year, but the hybrid version will take another two to three years of development to finalize.
According to Just-Auto, the 7-series hybrid will use a mild hybrid system that was co-devolved with Daimler. Unlike some hybrid systems, the mild hybrid system isn't capable on powering the vehicle in an all-electric mode. However, the 7-series hybrid is expected to use regenerative braking to help charge its battery pack.
BMW's hybrid development appears to be in full swing as spy photographers recently spotted a hybrid prototype of the new X6 and the German automaker plans to display a twin-turbo diesel hybrid X5 at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

In my opinion, looks like the 7er is heading back to its roots--I think this is a cleaner, more classic design, like the E38. Less polarizing, while still building off of Bangle's first iteration of flame surfacing.
This toned-down Bangle styling is pretty hot (latest 3er, X5, etc.). Question is, is Bangle or Van Hooydonk the stronger influence to tone these designs down?

It's a clean look. I like the mufflers in bumpers.

I know we can't see all the details, but the more I look at it, the more E38 I see in this thing.
I like it. I like it a lot (what I can see).
