I think BMW may hand this off to alpina again and have them supercharge the 6.0L v12, or maybe they just might turbo it...

Y'all think they are ballsy enough to risk the dough for R&D in an economic climate like this?

Hmmm. It will be interesting to see its performance numbers. A regular 7-series weighs 4500 lbs. How much less can the M weigh?

a bit less, I mean give it a CF roof with some more CF panels, use aluminum everywhere, lightweight rims, lightweight rotors and brakes, reduce the weight of the motor and components, get rid of the excess trunk trim and other stuff, remove the motors from the rear seats, remove some of the wood, add some cloth to the head-liner instead of alcantra, etc. My guess would be somewhere around 600-800 pounds.

Post 2009 BMW 760i & 760Li

Press release...

The new BMW 7 Series already sets the benchmark in luxury performance motoring – and now BMW is moving up the standard of maximum exclusivity and supremacy in this supreme class to an even higher level, following a completely new definition: The new BMW 760i and the new BMW 760Li are taking over the top position within BMW’s model portfolio, representing the highest level of motoring refinement in their segment.

The heart and foundation of this exceptional new standard comes from the twelve-cylinder power unit featured in both top models in the BMW 7 Series. Developed as a completely new engine from the ground up, the V12 is a masterpiece of modern engine technology. Superior power of 400 kW/544 hp comes at an engine speed of 5,000 rpm, with maximum torque of 750 Newton-metres (553 lb-ft) from just 1,500 rpm.

Combined with the likewise brand-new eight-speed automatic transmission, this twelve-cylinder offers not only unparalleled motoring refinement, but also supreme driving dynamics through its ability to convert seemingly unlimited power reserves spontaneously and with precise control at all times into supreme driving dynamics.

Once again, BMW’s twelve-cylinder power unit is the epitome of refined performance, grand touring comfort, and stylish exclusivity. The new BMW 760i as well as the new BMW 760Li with its wheelbase extended by 14 centimetres or 5.5" for particular comfort – if not to say, luxury – at the rear, provide the clear answer to the question as to what one may expect of a genuine luxury performance saloon, with fascinating new features underscoring BMW’s claim to leadership in the luxury segment.

The drivetrain with all its technical features is a masterpiece of supremacy in every respect. This applies both to the 6.0-litre all-aluminium power unit with TwinPower Turbo Technology, ¬High Precision Injection with fuel injected directly into the combustion chambers, and to BMW’s infinite double-VANOS camshaft adjustment as well as the eight-speed automatic transmission featured for the first time in a BMW.

Benefiting from all these technologies, the new BMW 760i and the BMW 760Li offer a new standard of motoring refinement, dynamic performance and all-round efficiency in a vehicle with this kind of power and output. Acceleration to 100 km/h comes in just 4.6*) seconds, average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 12.9*) litres/100 kilometres on the new BMW 760i.

In determining the cars’ fuel consumption, BMW’s engineers have already taken the stricter EU5 emission standard into account, meaning that with the cars’ performance improving significantly fuel consumption is down by approximately 4.5 per cent versus the former model.

*) Provisional figures

I finally love the 7series.

Needs a front lower lip though, looks too plain.

I still like the Quattroporte better (but I have no idea what this 7 is going for, so might be a stupid comparison on my part)

The rear looks pretty decent with those tips, but the front is horrid. Nothing flows...Needs a newly designed bumper, sleeker grilles (seriously, WTF were they thinking) and bring the hood line down, its not a fucking camry.

No like.

I'd definitely buy an A8 or Benz over this any day.

I'm so sick of BMW's dash design. Bring back the driver centric feel and do away with the buick look plz.

^ I agree with you that they should bring back the design when everything was made with the driver in mind, I drove an E46 a few weeks ago and had the same exact thought.

With that said, I still think the S and the A8 give more for the money over the 750i although I like the new redesign.

I quite like the new 7. I checked it out a few times at the dealer while we were car shopping and thought it looked good inside and out.

call me a party-pooper, but, why does a car like the 760Li need 544hp again? especially, in 2009?

This car wasn't meant to be seen just from the front. It looks much better when seen in person, in perspective.

And is it just me or that most extended/long wheelbase vehicles do not look very good. Most car designs weren't meant to have their original proportions stretched.

So that people won't bitch about 2 Ton cars with low HP ratings.

If I'm someone who's in the market for a $100K vehicle like the 760IL, I'd expect the most for my money.

people who can afford cars like this wouldn't have a problem with dumping money on gas consumption

I knew someone that had a Dodge Viper... (newer/later model), and when gas was at $5/gallon... he had no problems paying at the pump

Wasn't talking about fuel economy. Just purely in terms of concept and function. Thinking out loud, I know there's people that will buy this. And don't get me wrong, I do love horsepower. I guess it just seems irresponsible to me, in this day and age, for a car company to make a car like this. Maybe they are not having any financial problems or are not affected directly by the issues of others - if that's the case, more power to them, I guess.

Look at the audience this car is aimed at like others have said...People that can drop $100k+ on a vehicle aren't exactly feeling the pinch of our current economic state.

They wouldn't be players in the game with MB having a S600 and Audi having their A8 W12. It may not be responsible, but it's business to them. They have to compete regardless of how small that area may be.

Caviar makers are still producing caviar....Rolex still making watches....Bentley still making Bentleys........

If there is a market, you continue to make them.....same for the 7 series.

...and the worldwide recession is 17 months and counting....you gotta forsee the end of it.....otherwise as a company you will be behind the curve on the recovery.

The exterior is growing on me. I am sure the car will preform great but that interior is just not an interior of a 70k + car.
