When the 2014 BMW 5-series goes on sale in August, the 528i will cost $50,425 while the V8-equipped 550i will sticker at $64,825. Those prices include a $925 destination charge. A diesel engine will be offered in the new 535d, for $57,525. The Gran Turismo version goes from $60,925 up to $71,125.
The 5 sedan gets a slight visual refresh for 2014. The lower air intakes have been massaged slightly, the rear gets an extra crease in the apron and the taillights have been redesigned. The 5-series Gran Turismo also gets worked over, including the front apron, rear end and license-plate holder. Xenon headlights are standard on the 5-series, while adaptive LEDs join the options list.
Four engines are offered, including the 255-hp, 413-lb-ft diesel engine. The three others are the 4.4-liter V8 in the 550i (445 hp, 480 lb-ft), 3.0-liter inline-six (300 hp, 300 lb-ft) and the 240-hp turbocharged four, which carries over in the 528i. The V8 in the 550i now combines the twin-scroll turbochargers, direct injection and BMW's Valvetronic throttle-less intake valve control. The 535i can be had with a six-speed manual, the rest get an eight-speed automatic. Wheel-mounted paddles shifters are also offered, as is the Sport Automatic option, which adds sportier shifting and Launch Control.
A group of BMW Efficient Dynamics technologies are standard, including a coasting mode, brake-energy regeneration, auto stop/start and eco pro mode, which ratchets down the fun stuff, and doubles up on the economy.
The suspension carries over for 2014, but has been fine-tuned, according to BMW. The front double wishbones and integral rear axle are made from aluminum, which BMW says allows the suspension to respond with more precision.
The company's Dynamic Drive Control system continues. The switch on the center console changes the acceleration, steering and if the Sport Automatic option is specified, the shift characteristics. The 5-series also has Integral Active Steering, which, in addition to adjusting the speed-dependent steering, also can angle the rear wheels through tight turns.
New features for 2014 include an automatic trunk closer when you swing your foot under the rear bumper, a new rear-seat entertainment system and upgraded iDrive with a touchpad.
Enthusiasts will no doubt look into the 560-hp, 2014 BMW M5, which will also debut in August. The M5 gets a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or an optional six-speed manual. BMW's Active M Differential is standard, as is the aluminum suspension.
The Competition package adds about 15 hp, for a total of 575, as well as a retuned suspension with stiffer antiroll bars. The M5 is lowered by a centimeter all around and the active differential is tuned even more aggressively.
The M5 also gets its own 20-inch lightweight wheels and a sport exhaust system with quad tailpipes.
Pricing wasn't revealed for the M5, but last year's model was about $28,000 more than the 550i, so figure somewhere around $92,000.

my friend test drove a F10 M5 6MT few days ago - he's the guy who has the GTR, had the modded ZR1, and the modded 997GT2 I drove. He's the kind of guy who is pretty much never impressed by anything (know anyone like this?) He was completely impressed by the M5. And he said that will be his next car. I was honestly quite surprised to hear him swooning about, well, ANYTHING.
#1693
Funny, because a buddy of mine tried an M5 - though it was an E60. He wasn't too impressed. It was nice, he said, but it wasn't entertaining to drive. He ended up getting a Cayman.
I absolutely love the F10 M5 and it's M6 (especially in Gran Coupe form) sibling but they give off more of a grand tourer vibe rather than a bigger M3.

^^ not funny, because the same friend I mention above loathes the E60 M5 - he thinks its an embarrassment to the M series, mainly because of the transmission - neither the SMG or the manual they put in that car were specifically made for the car. Unlike on the F10.
#1695
It's weird because the M6 did terrible on some magazine comparison recently. I can't imagine the M5 would be drastically different as far as dynamics go.
shrug your buddy probably looks for something other than outright performance. Considering he's not impressed by a GT-R, ZR1 or a GT2.

So it seems that diesel and AWD is the big push up here for BMW in New England. I recently stopped into a BMW dealer and they had more 535d xDrive cars in their inventory than any other car, including even 3-series cars.
Unfortunately, I was not that impressed with the 535d, which did not feel like it 413 lb-ft of torque and BMW has really taken a lot of the feel out of the steering.

MT long term 2012 528 review. as usual tire replacement within a year. BMW dealer run out of loaners. extremely low residuals
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._528i_verdict/
Oumar's campaign had me seriously thinking it all over when, at 30,400 miles, the 528's brake pedal began to shudder ominously. And then got worse. Ultimately both front rotors were replaced, requiring me to drive a rental Chevy Malibu during the swap (the dealer had run out of BMW loaners).

MT had 2012 BMW 528i. I presume in 2015 (when its 3 year old). it would have crossed the 50k mile mark. after that period BMW drops like rocks.
There are some certified BMW 535 2011 model with asking prices of $35k.
so I presume without certified BMW 535 2011 will be closer to $30k. and these are 535. and asking prices usually couple of grand higher than actual transaction price.
This is third negative long term review of BMW 5 after Automobile, C&D and Edmunds.

Interesting. I got curious and looked on cars.com...2011 535i's with 45-65K miles are listed in the high $20Ks. More the reason I don't picture myself buying a new German vehicle anytime soon. Why would you when you can get a current model with a few thousand miles for $10K+ off MSRP? I'd happily get a 2012 5 series with 9,000 miles if it means it'll be priced the same as a new 3 series.
Goes back to the age old debate of new vs. used.

It is not just depreciaton but availability in used market
for example for each used 2013 TSX (less than a year old driven). you can find 20 used BMW 328 2013 models in bayarea. so there is so much choice in colors and variants. All almost $12k off from there new prices and certified.
Either these are boat load of loaners or just people returning it within a year after use.

From BMW:
The BMW M5 entered its second generation in 1988, the straight-six power unit originally displacing 3.6 and subsequently 3.8 litres, with output increasing first to 315 and then to 340 hp.

30th Anniversary BMW M5 Speculation
From here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...600-horsepower
It’s been 30 years since the first BMW M5, the E28, was shown at an auto show in Amsterdam, and to celebrate the milestone BMW M has something special planned for this year. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, the special surprise is expected to be a new 30th anniversary M5, to be revealed at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, and according to the latest reports the car will be packing around 600 horsepower.
The information was first reported by Dutch website Autovisie, which also claims that BMW will make an official announcement regarding the car as early as next week.
The most potent M5 at present is the 2014 M5 equipped with a Competition Package. This model has 575 hp as opposed to the stock version’s 560 hp, and will sprint to 62 mph from rest in 4.3 seconds, though it's still slower than rivals. With 600 or more horses on tap, the 30th anniversary M5 should finally be able to fend off the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S- Model and perhaps even the upcoming 2016 Cadillac CTS-V.

Still not fair because of light weight ILX and aerodynamic mirrors. Also, proper AC vent placement makes ILX more attractive to drive every day. M5 not able to put power down so ILX wins off line and never look back.

I was hoping it was a joke considering you compared a $26,000 Acura to a BMW performance sedan.
Great picture of your E60 by the way. Beautiful machine.
I can't even imagine how fast the new one is going to be with over 600HP. I can't wait to read reviews of it compared to the new 2016 CTS-V.

Other information from here: http://www.worldcarfans.com/11405057...edition-leaked
The BMW M5 30th anniversary edition has leaked to the web ahead of its debut later this year.
Looking instantly recognizable, the 30th anniversary edition will be distinguished by a Frozen Dark Silver Metallic exterior with dark chrome accents and 20-inch alloy wheels with a jet black finish.
Interior changes are also limited but will include Merino leather and Alcantara seats, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and dark aluminum trim. The model will also have 30th anniversary badging on the seats and dashboard.
Besides the styling tweaks, the car will be equipped with the Competition package that includes a sportier suspension, a revised M Dynamic mode and black chrome tailpipes.
Under the hood, the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine has been massaged to develop 600 PS (441 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 40 PS (29 kW) and 20 Nm (14 lb-ft). It will reportedly be connected to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission that should enable the sedan to rocket from 0-100 km/h in less than 4.4 seconds.
The M5 30th anniversary edition will be shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and speculation suggests it could be unveiled at the M Festival next month.
