Really surprised the torque is under 400. I'm getting that in my current 335 with less hp.

I thought M3/M5/etc. suspension components were always aluminum? How did they save so much weight?

Or is the F30 chassis just inherently that much lighter? Very impressive, doubt anyone is surprised about the turbo 6-cylinder. And it's a straight 6!

Sigh. I need a better paying job.

It has everything i want in a car.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new M3/4 has 430 WHP instead of BHP.

I realize that, but they're sitting on two turbo chargers (as am I) and I'm redlining at 7k. Does a 500rpm increase in the topside really decrease torque by 40 lb/ft, especially with forced induction?

not sure, just hypothesizing what may have happened there. I would think no matter what it is, it was done for a reason

I think MB needs to do something here with their C350 ... Because the 335i M-Sport is on a whole other level than the C350. I realize that a a MB customer is not necessarily the same as a M-Sport customer but the fact remains that the current configuration doesn't even put them in the same conversation against a S4/5 or M-Sport.

I am really really surprised that MB hasn't put FI in C and E350 yet.

Hmm...

ighter than before, check.
More power than before, check.
Much more torque than before, check.
Keeping the redline above 7000rpm, check.
Proper manual transmission as an option, check.
But Active Sound like the M5/6? Why..........

For a car with such reputation, it doesn't make sense IMO to use active sound. I don't like the idea of faking the engine/exhaust sound.....may be it's just me....

You can barely even hear it in the F10 M5, its really not a big deal. Only time I can really hear it is if i put my head near the speakers.

I imagine with the windows up, they'd want to minimize wind/road noise as much as possible, which has the side effect of dampening the exhaust as well.

also noticed something else potentially new, carbon ceramic brakes as an option?! They're not messing around.

Which is really interesting....it seems like BMW is redefining what their M models stand for. That extra road noise and wind noise would add to the rawness/sportiness of the car IMO. Perhaps BMW wants the regular M cars to still be very luxurious...and in the future there will be CSL versions of these M cars?

It's going to be a car from a luxury make ranging from $60-70k. They're already cutting a lot of weight, which is what most BMW enthusiasts would care about most as far as improvements are concerned.

I think the last truly raw/sporty M3 was the E30. I doubt any would be owners would complain about the car being quiet and relaxing to drive on the freeway.

Don't quote me on this, but horsepower and torque are related by a general formula.

So torque is calculated by the amount of horsepower and RPM at a given time for torque. So an increase in RPM decreases tq. One way to counteract that would be an increase in HP, but then the M3 may be coming to close to M5 range in numbers? Forgot the M5 HP numbers.

ANyway, this car is gonna be a dream to drive I bet! I never realized how heavy those M3's were! They sure went on a pretty big diet.

Can't wait! I wonder where I'll be in three years and if I'd be able to afford such a car (graduating this december )

How do you think the steering feel is gonna be with this?? Think they may have nailed it??

Obviously I've not driven one, but from readings, the 5, M5, and i'm not sure if the 3 had the same complaints, but there were complaints about the electric steering in the 5 at least.

Don't get me wrong, I feel that the new M3/M4 is an amazing car with very competitive performance. It's just that based on this Active Sound Design system, it seems like the direction of the M division has changed already (or is changing). I can see such feature being implemented on cars like a regular 3 series). But on a M model, I'd have thought the mechanical parts would be enough to create the good sounds.

Can't really complain about that since may be people who can afford this car actually want fake noise.

It seems like BMW enthusiasts are not too keen about this feature too:

I guess this is the future of car technologies and we just have to live with it...haha

well if you saw the videos you can tell that it definitely does produce a nice sound. Its just inside I guess you can't hear it as much? Maybe they found a lot of customers not liking the tire noise (since low profile tires tend to make more noise) and this was the only way around it?

I dont back it at all, but given the circumstances, this won't stop me from buying one.

You posting threads that are from before anyone heard active sound in real life. Those enthusiast are hating on the idea of it, like you are.

The F10 M5 with active sound has been out for over a year now and no one talks about it anymore. Even the current F10 M5 owners, mostly because its not as pronounced as one would think. I was also a hater before having a lot of seat time in an M5.

Go romp on one and see if you even notice it.

Read this one. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/f10...ive-sound.html
