This is the official option list for the 2006 E90 (euro-spec). It's in German, and google translate only does so much... Interesting notes, it appears you could have every single option from E60 5 series, save comfort seats, rear heated seats and steering wheel, HUD, and most likely some interior trims. By the way, anyone want to speculate on the list prices for the Pro nav and Logic 7? They seem strange compared to a E60 or even a E65, since Logic 7 is EXACTLY the same as in the 7/5 and the new E90 3.

The front is a more graceful 6-series and hence looks good and the profile is great. The back is too fucking vague to even comment on.

BMW M3 Competition - - Source: Autoweek

To tide over buyers anxious for the V8-powered 400-hp M3 due in 2006, BMW is offering a $4,000 Competition (read handling) package for six-cylinder 2005 M3 coupes. The package includes a sportier suspension, 19-inch wheels with high-performance tires and a quicker, 14.5:1 steering ratio. The DSC employs a less intrusive M track mode with more leeway during spirited driving, and the brakes, which grow to 13.6 inches, are now cross-drilled. Inside, Alcantara adorns the steering wheel and handbrake. Production is underway.

INFORMATION SUPPLIED BY BMW

The M3 Competition Package - for the discerning driver who seeks the ultimate in handling and responsiveness.

Already renowned for its performance and handling, the Competition Package takes M3 performance to the razor's edge. Every aspect of the M3's handling has been tweaked resulting in the best-handling M3 ever.

The wheels are 19-inch forged-alloys with high-performance tires. They connect to a suspension that has been tuned specifically for the Competition Package. Turn-in is quicker with a more direct steering ratio which goes from 15.4:1 to 14.5:1.

M Track mode and brake system taken from the BMW M3 CSL

The Dynamic Stability Control system includes a less intrusive M track mode, as on the M3 CSL, ensuring the security of DSC and spirited driving too. For inclement conditions the regular DSC mode remains. The brakes, also adopted from the M3 CSL, include compound and cross-drilled rotors. The front rotors have also been enlarged from12.8 to13.6 inches.

As the serious enthusiast would expect, the Competition Package is available in combination with the standard six-speed manual or the optional Sequential Manual Gearbox.

The interior enhancements of the package are subtle but purposeful. The Alcantara steering wheel and handbrake grip feel good to the touch. The addition of the steering wheel-mounted button for the DSC M track mode requires the deletion of the multi-function controls and cruise control. The Competition Package is available with all M3 Coupe interior and exterior color combinations. Two trim items are exclusive to the Competition Package. Special Competition Package aluminum trim is included on the interior. A new exterior color, Interlagos Blue, is offered only with this package.

The Competition Package will be available for 2005 M3 Coupes beginning with December 2004 production. The price for the package will be $4,000.

I will not be able to die a happy man if I will never be able to buy a new M3 with a clutch...I hope that is not the case.

I dont see the next m3 being only offered in smg trim, the last gen m5 wasnt. It would only make sense to reuse the old tranny if they are reusing the engine.

I hope you’re right, but the new M5 will be SMG only and the new M6 will be SMG only.
See a pattern here?
The 3-Series is next on the list.

Any M3 fanatic will call this the last of the "real" M3's anyway as it will be the last M with an inline engine.

I agree. The V8 will be here 2 years from now, it will cost a lot more than the current M3 and as we all know, it will have a ton of dealer price gauging during the first 1.5 years. So this is a good deal right now. I will check it out when I start looking for a car at the end of February.

The 3-Series is next on the list.
The M5 and M6 are targeting a different age crowd generally, and that older crowd would definately be over the shifting days.
The new M4 should be available both ways at least for the next gen. Its a car that is not only more accessible, but a car thats not unusual for teens to get into. The M5 is made for the crowd who buys auto vettes and other auto sport cars. And SMG can be easier to handle on a track. My friend who tracks regularly has driven several smg's and manual m3's. Though he drives a manual himself, he prefers the SMG.
It shifts faster than any human and can be put into auto mode as well, so why would an m5 buyer want anything else? For an m3/m4, i sure hope bmw doesnt follow the trend!

CSL is not sold here, it cant pass the crash tests imposed by the USA gov't mostly due to the carbonfiber roof. Also it would not be surprising to hear that the mods the CLS engine got affected emissions negatively, but dont know it for sure.

I'd be surprised to see the next M3 offered with a manual tranny. Especially for the US market.

Again. The next M3 is not as close as you think. The next 3 series is not close enough as it is.

Just because we saw the official pics "leak" that does not mean the car will be in dealer lots soon.

Supposedly the V10 engine was designed in such a way to use only the SMG, and that is why you dont see a manual available on the M5/6

I personally would not want a V8 M3...too big, too heavy, not as good of a handler. Thhe current M3, which I love to death, is already less of a handler compared to the e36.

Its the same reasons why I dont like the current S4 with a V8.

E30s handled the best. But they had four bangers.

That, I believe. There was a ton of room for improvement with SMG and SMG-II.
