Yeah, it ain't pretty. It'll probably be a big sales hit though, since it'll be the new cheapest BMW.

Hey all BMW are overpriced if you compare price with 0-60. Though people buy them like hotcakes.

I dig the Mazda 3 a whole lot over this shit.

But I'll reserve final judgement until I see some press pics.

they gonna have a M1? (or M2 for u.s. market)

i dont know, i dont quite see why bmw would want to make this... why not spend 5k more to get a 3-series?

Damn. I don't know about diluting the brand like this... they're going about as down market as they can go (size and price wise). This may backfire on the brands premium image. Drivers of a new $75K 6-Series may not like to see a bunch of sub $30K cars running around with that famed emblem.

The ugliest thing is the 120 badge! Debadge is a must! 1 instead of 3, 5, or 7 just sounds bad! I'd like to see the interior though

What wheel designs? I see one shitty split 5 spoke design.

I've got a lot more issues with that car than it carrying the "1 series" badge. The front, although a little bulgy in and mismatched in some colors, is fine. And that's where things get exponentially worse.

Not here they wont. Im sure every one remembers the 318tti. Just look at the Mercedes hatchback as well. BMW isn't gonna bring it over here as its not worth it. Hatchbacks don't sell in the U.S.

Didnt mean the hatch...more of the convert and coupe and sedan. I definitely agree that the Hatch wont sell.

I could be wrong but where did you read that? I have read a few times that the coupe and sedan will definitely make it. Thus the reasoning for the M2.

BMW-M1 News

BMW's Hottest Baby Blasts Off - - By Dan Strong - - Source: AutoExpress

The M1 has resurfaced - and the good news is that it will be here in double-quick time! This near-showroom-ready sporty edition of the new BMW 1-Series was spotted undergoing performance testing at the challenging Nürburgring circuit in Germany.

This week's mag has the first pictures of the eagerly anticipated model, which looks sure to spark a buying frenzy among upmarket hatchback fans when it arrives on UK forecourts next year.

Auto Express was first with the news that the German firm's M division was developing a hot version of the car to rival the likes of the VW Golf GTI and Volvo S40 T5 way back in Issue 755. Not only does the newcomer get bigger wheels and a more powerful engine but, as our photos show, the sporty hatch will come dressed in a distinctive new bodykit, unlike anything we have seen on previous performance BMWs.

Powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and capable of completing the 0-60mph sprint in only 7.0 seconds, the hot Beemer is expected to wear 125i Sport badges. This means no return for the coveted M1 marque, which made its debut on the maker's mid-engined Seventies supercar.

However, with tuned suspension and uprated brakes, this 1-Series is likely to remain the fastest small BMW until the arrival of the 300bhp, 3.0-litre M2 coupé, which is expected in two years' time. Although prices for the 125i Sport are still to be confirmed, it's expected to cost from £22,000. The entry-level 1-Series, the 116i, goes on sale here in September, priced from £15,690. It will be joined by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel variants, costing from £17,340.

Meanwhile, BMW says its 1-Series will be compatible with Apple's iPod. A special connection links the new car's stereo to the portable jukebox, which can store up to 10,000 songs digitally.

7 secs for the 60. BMW does not care cos we wont see this car to the USA. But we will see the M2. I wonder what this 2.4 liter engine makes and what engine will the M2 wear.

The article says 2 years from now. So it's way too early for pricing. Usually pricing comes after the car is officially introduced.

Gav, my guess is the same as what we heard about a year ago regarding the M2. I still think it's 2.4L and 240hp.

If I had to guess on a price, I would say the M2 would start at $28k and go up to $34k optioned out. That puts it firmly in the S2000 range and would definitely allow it to compete with the STi and Evo9 if they can keep the weight down.
