oh man when the 1 series comes out those things are gonna be popping up in socal like there's no tomorrow given the relatively low entry price for a beamer. just saw the pics and they look sweet as hell. with beamers package options, i'm sure a 26k base price for a 128 is gonna make it well over 30k loaded. still, about 36k for a loaded twin turbo 135 coupe w/nav would be awesome.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before (I heard Hyundai, which is strictly retarded imo), but I'm feelin' some Volvo lovin' in the rear, which is a very good thing. The newer volvos are looking fantastic. This car (the 1 ser) has REALLY got me on the edge of my seat right now. I'm looking to sell my prelude come after summer and get myself a brand new car. It must fit the criteria of:
1) Solid built car, good rep
2) 6cyl with above avg. performance
3) RWD (it will be my first)
4) Projector HIDs standard
5) Heated seats
6) Navi
7) Great braking
8) Look good
9) Practical
To me, this car looks GREAT. The damn front end looks sportier than the 3ser for christsake! I think this will shoot out the roof with sales, quick, fast and in a hurry. :tingles:

lightweight, rwd, practical, generous amount of luxurious features. what's not to like?
the 1-series and the concept datsun/nissan 510 are the ones i will be looking at very closely...

it will have two 3.0 engines to choose from, same as 3 series. one is N/A (128) one is TT (135).

Coupe is never practical.
The press release didn't say anything about it, but the size of the 1 series should be obviously smaller than the 3 series, so the backseats wouldn't be very useful for human or big dogs. For people who want performance with lower price, 1 series is the way to go, but if you are taller and heavy (like many Americans), or want to take more than one for the ride, this is not gonna be a comfortable for long.

We sat in the back seats and had a guy our own size sit in front and try to crush our legs. No can do, since there was very healthy room for knees and feet. There was also good space for heads in back, which was another good surprise

Car brochure scans have been posted! http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678
Kind of disappointing that the brochure lists the car as weighing 1560 kgs, or 3439 lbs. BMW does add an extra 75kg (for driver and cargo) or 165 lbs to that weight over what most manufacturers do, but the 335i only weighs 120lbs more or so, assuming BMW used the same 75kg additional weight when weighing the 335i.
Kind of disappointed, I expected the 135i to weigh considerably less than the 335i, not just 120 lbs. I could probably lose 120 lbs in the 335i without too much effort.
Still interested in the car, just taking a more wait and see approach now.

3439 lbs ?? Fuck.... Only 120lbs lighter then the 335. What's the point ?
It better be a whole lot cheaper than the 335 or bmw is gonna have a flop on their hands....
With this news, I'm in no rush to get rid of my CL now... I can wait till 1-series hit the used car market. If it was closer to 3000lbs, I'd be putting down a deposit now...

Ok, first of all, the car weighs 1485kgs, equating to 3274lbs, which is pretty chill. Secondly, did BMW throw on the additional 165lbs of weight on the 335i as well for the curb weight?

bah...3250lbs (roughly 75-80% of a tank) with 306hp/300lb-ft ... you're already dippin' into the mid to low 13's. How can anyone complain about that? I really don't see the weight being too big of an issue. It is about 132lbs lighter than the 335i, which isn't a TON, but does add up.

I've been waiting for a lightweight, rwd fun to drive car ... this isn't exactly lightweight, I'm driving an S2000 right now, ~2800 lbs.
Dem1K - I understand when you subtract out the extra 75kgs that they add in, the actual weight comes in more like 3250 lbs, but that 75kgs should have also been used in the 335i calculation, which means that its still only going to be 120lbs lighter than the 335i or so. If it didn't, thats pretty stupid on BMW's part, it makes the 1 series seem unnecessarily heavy, unless its some weird EU rule - but then it should apply to bmw.co.uk's Unladen weight for the 335i, and the UK weight for the 335i is lower than the USA weight!
I don't understand why the 120d (1450kg)/123d (1490kg) are so much lighter than the 135, I'd expect the 135 to be heavier, but not 100kg heavier than the 120d.
Just not as excited as I was about this car.

Maybe I'll just pick up a 2002, and save myself $20-30K....

I think BMW is always a little heavy in their stated weights. Someone in another thread around here weighed their 335i coupe and it came out significantly lighter than what was listed.

I dont understand BMW, they are going to make a car that is, from speculation, perform better and cost cheaper than a 3er, the only thing that falls behind is the looks, and looks is a subjective thing!

I really don't know what BMW is doing but the 1 hatch is fugly, and if the coupe is gonna cost less than a 335i coupe I would definitely buy one if I had the money.

Well its not exactly has luxurious as the 3series is. You can tell by this interior picture.

But still, this thing is gonna be a blast to drive and worth the price. IMO
