Bertone: Jet 2+2 (based on Aston Martin Rapide) news
From Left Lane News:
Storied Italian coachbuilder Bertone has published the first official images of a one-off shooting brake based on the Aston Martin Rapide. Christened Jet 2+2 , the wagon was commissioned by a wealthy collector who closely followed its development from start to finish.
Save for a modified version of the Rapide S' front bumper, the Jet 2+2 is nearly identical to the Rapide up until the B-pillar. Beyond that, it adopts a considerably longer roof line, a sloping hatchback and LED tail lamps that are similar to the ones found on the One-77 supercar.
How much cargo space the new body style frees up is not known but we don't expect it to be a substantial improvement because the wagon has roughly the same rear overhang as the sedan. However, carrying bulky items is a breeze thanks to rear seats that can fold flat, an option that is not available on the regular Rapide.
Bertone made no modifications under the hood and the Jet 2+2 uses the same 5.9-liter V12 engine that powers the Rapide. Linked to a six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission, the mill sends 476 horsepower and 440 lb-ft. of torque to the rear set of wheels.
According to Italy's Quattroruote magazine, the Jet 2+2 is the first creation of the Bertone Workshop, a newly-founded sub-division of Bertone that aims to build one-off cars at the request of the lucky few that can afford it.
