Enhanced seven-seat SUV range benefits visually and mechanically and features the world's cleanest diesel technology.
Visually and mechanically improved evolution of Audi luxury all-terrain vehicle scheduled to open for European order this week with first deliveries in July
New 3.0 TDI 'clean diesel' joins range alongside existing 3.0 TDI which, in common with 4.2 TDI, 4.2 FSI and 3.6 FSI engines benefits from improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 output
Combines seven-seat practicality with quattro four-wheel-drive and variable height adaptive air suspension for genuine off-road capability
4.2 FSI V8 petrol (350PS) and 3.0 V6 TDI (233PS) engines
A visually and mechanically enhanced seven-seat Audi Q7 range which for the first time incorporates an ultra-low emission, EU6-compliant TDI model opens for European order this week. Due to reach its first customers in July, the new range combines subtle styling revisions and improved equipment for SE and S line models with advanced energy recuperation technology that brings improved fuel economy and reduced emissions for all versions.

The most important advances benefiting the latest Q7 range are arguably to be found beneath the reworked body, where a new 3.0-liter TDI engine incorporating the world's cleanest diesel technology uses an AdBlue additive to eradicate virtually all harmful nitrous oxides from emissions, and already meets stringent EU6 emissions applicable from 2014. Like the rest of the engine range, including 3.6 FSI V6 and 4.2 FSI V8 direct injection petrol units and mighty 4.2 TDI V8 and 6.0 TDI diesels, the new high-tech 3.0-liter TDI unit is backed up by a new energy recovery system which helps to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 5 g/km. During braking and coasting phases the system converts mechanical energy into electric energy via the alternator and stores it within the battery to reduce the load on the engine.

An advanced version of the common rail piezo injection system with 2,000 bar of pressure, new combustion chamber sensors and a high-performance exhaust recirculation system ensures a highly efficient combustion process in the new TDI clean diesel. An innovative DeNOx catalytic converter reduces the remaining nitrogen oxides. Just upstream of it, a pump injects an additive named AdBlue into the hot exhaust flow, where this solution decomposes into ammonia, which splits the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water. This additive is replenished by Audi Centers during routine servicing.

Significant economy improvements

In Q7 3.0 TDI quattro models equipped with the new TDI 'clean diesel' unit backed up by the energy recuperation technology, a combined fuel economy figure of 31.7mpg is achievable. The benefits of recuperation are also particularly evident in the 4.2 TDI, which enjoys a fuel economy boost from 25.5mpg to 28.5mpg, despite an increase in power for the latest generation unit from 326PS to 340PS. The 6.0-liter, 500PS Audi Q7 V12 TDI continues to rank as the world뭩 most powerful diesel-powered SUV, and yet manages a wholly respectable economy figure of 25.0mpg in the combined cycle test. In the petrol camp, the 3.6 FSI V6 registers 23.3mpg, and the 4.2 FSI 22.2mpg.

All engines transmit their power via a six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, and all of course work in conjunction with quattro permanent four-wheel-drive with the now familiar 40 per cent / 60 per cent front-to-rear torque split for optimum on-road balance. Both on and off the tarmac, the standard five-mode air suspension with its variable ground clearance of between 180mm and 240mm helps the Audi Q7 to iron out the most imperfect of surfaces. The off-road setting, with 205mm of clearance and adapted damper control, is the perfect setting for cross-country driving.

A redesigned front grille, restyled bumpers incorporating new integrated under-body protectors, new door moldings and distinctive new LED rear lights embellish the distinctive Audi Q7 body in its latest incarnation. SE versions are further enhanced by larger 19-inch alloy wheels (previously 18-inch), and top specification S line models by LED indicators and new U-shaped 'wraparound' LED daytime running lights built into standard xenon headlamps. These striking new light units can also be added at extra cost to SE and standard models.

Inside the latest Audi Q7, numerous detail enhancements, most notably to the instrument cluster and switchgear but also taking in lighting and interior color schemes, have further improved the ambiance. Three specification levels - standard, SE and S line - are offered for the V6 FSI and V6 TDI models, while the V8 petrol and V8 TDI versions are available exclusively in SE or S line form. The V12 TDI has an extensive, stand-alone specification. SE and S line versions in the latest generation benefit from equipment upgrades, the former including the new 19-inch alloy wheel design and Bluetooth mobile phone preparation, and the latter the addition of front seat heating, Bluetooth phone preparation and xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and indicators.

Among the new additions to the options list is the latest HDD navigation and entertainment system available for integration into the standard Multi Media Interface. The system uses a hard drive to store navigation mapping, music and telephone data, and displays its new 3D graphics on a high resolution color monitor. Climate controlled comfort seats capable of heating or cooling their occupants are also newly available, as are long life, virtually fade-free carbon fiber ceramic brakes, which have been fitted as standard to the Audi Q7 V12 TDI since its launch and are now offered at extra cost for 4.2 FSI and 4.2 TDI versions.

An overall length of 5,086 millimeters and a wheelbase of 3,002 millimeters (width: 1,983 mm / height 1,737 mm) enable the Audi Q7 to offer exceptional interior space, and no less than 28 seating and loading configurations guaranteeing exceptional versatility.

Up to seven occupants can be accommodated in the three rows of seats that are included as standard. The seats in the second row are individually adjustable for fore/aft movement, and both rear seat rows can be folded flat to provide a load area of 2,035 liters if required, without the seats having to be removed. If used as a 5-seater the Q7 boasts an impressive load capacity of 775 liters.

I was suprised that no one created a thread about the new Q7 TDI.

We just got our demo Q7 TDI yesterday. I haven't had any time to test drive this new TDI yet, but planning on doing some time next week.

.....
And for performance ? The Q7 is heavy like hell, nothing short of a 4.2L-V8 will give the hulking SUV decent performance.

http://www.carshowp.com/2011-Audi-Q7-3-OT/

2011 Audi Q7 3.OT sporty SUV comes with an efficient design. This car was made in all fields according to both the highway, hard ground or snow. Inside the seven-passenger seat to provide a truck large enough and the gas-sucking SUVs screams supersize fatuosity auf Deutsch.

Audi strategy use reformulating its Q7 petrol powertrain. 2011 Audi Q7 3.OT offers two engine outputs are the 4.2-liter V-8 and 3.6-liter V-6 engines. All gas-powered Q7s will now come equipped with an all-new supercharged, direct-injection V-6 engine in either a high- or low-output configuration mated to a slick new eight-speed Tiptronic transmission.
Both are the result of two different states of tune applied to the same engine. This one hardware/two output approach saves Audi vast sums of money, which it clearly dumped into powertrain development.

I like the Q7, don't get me wrong but if I were in the market for a full-size luxury SUV, I'd have to get a Range Rover Supercharged.

Post New Audi SQ7 TDI Will Be First With Electrically-Driven Turbo

Audi is working on a new generation of its Q7 and we’re expecting the big SUV to be the first to feature the German automaker’s new diesel engine equipped with an electrically-driven turbocharger. The technology, called e-boost, is designed to eliminate turbo lag at low revs and according to comments from Audi’s R&D boss we’ll see it first in a new SQ7 performance SUV.

"The new Q7 will be available in the market next year,” Audi board member for technical development Ulrich Hackenberg told Autocar. “The electric turbo will come a bit later in the Audi SQ7 available in [calendar year] 2016.”

The engine destined for the vehicle is 3.0-liter V-6 TDI equipped with a twin-turbocharging system. The smaller of the two turbochargers uses an electric motor to get it spinning at lower revs and then reverts to exhaust gases at higher revs—engineers discovered that using an electric motor alone to spool up a turbo wasn’t as effective as using both an electric motor and exhaust gases.

A version of the engine shown in an RS 5 TDI concept car produces an impressive 385 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, the latter generated at just 1,250 rpm. In the RS 5, this enables 0-60 mph acceleration in just 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. These figures are comparable with those of the stock RS 5 and its gasoline V-8 but with the high-tech diesel the stated fuel economy for the European combined cycle is an incredible 44.4 mpg.

It’s not clear whether the diesel-powered SQ7, likely to be called an SQ7 TDI, will be offered in the U.S. given Audi’s decision to exclude us from the current SQ5 TDI model. The good news is that we may still see a gasoline-powered SQ7 powered by Audi’s 4.0-liter TFSI engine.

The new Audi Q7 will be revealed later this year but won't reach showrooms until the second half of 2015, as a 2016 model. For more details on the vehicle, including additional spy shots and a video, click here.

New Audi Q7 revealed | Autocar

Holding true to earlier claims, the German car maker says the big seven seat SUV has shed a significant 325kg in weight over its predecessor in 328bhp supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine form at 1970kg.

The enormous drop in kerb weight is credited to a detailed weight reduction program that has seen 100kg cut from the Q7’s suspension and an additional 71kg taken out of the body – some 24kg of which has been achieved through the adoption of aluminium doors alone.

Further reductions in weight have also been made possible by a new electric architecture and refinements to the floorplan, which now uses a greater amount of hot formed high strength steel and aluminium.

Set for UK sale from mid-2015, Ingolstadt’s flagship SUV boasts an evolutionary appearance with a bold new single frame grille similar in design to that recently brought to the facelifted Q3, more heavily defined wheelarches, tauter surfacing treatment, a more prominent shoulder and numerous crease lines within the flanks to help reduce its visual bulk.

A series of newly adopted aerodynamic refinements, including the extensive use of underbody cladding and, on selected models, elements within the grille that automatically close to reduce wind turbulence when engine bay cooling is not required, has netted the new Q7 a drag co-efficient of 0.32.

At 5050mm in length, 1970mm in width and 1740mm in height, the new Audi is 370mm shorter, 15mm narrower and the same height than its predecessor when underpinned by its standard steel sprung suspension. The wheelbase has also been reduced, but only by 10mm at 2990mm.

Despite the reduction in external dimensions, Audi says the interior of the new Q7 offers greater accommodation than the model it replaces. While continuing to offer seating for up to seven occupants, the interior has been significantly altered.

Improved packaging is claimed to have liberated an added 21mm between the first and second rows of seats together with a respective 41mm and 23mm of headroom. The third row of seats also offer 24mm more headroom and 20mm more shoulder room than before.

As part of Audi’s efforts to provide the Q7 with a more up-market positioning, the new models adopts a highly contemporary styled dashboard with minimal switchgear, free standing infotainment monitor, digital instrument binnacle similar to that unveiled on the latest TT and a prominent centre console with a newly designed MMI controller and gear shift lever.

Among the EU6 emission regulation compliant engines planned from the outset of Q7 sales in the UK in 2015 is a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 common rail diesel producing 268bhp and 442lb ft of torque in the 3.0 TDI and supercharged 3.0-litre V6 direct injection petrol unit with 328bhp and 324lb ft in the 3.0 TFSI

Both engines come mated to a standard eight-speed torque converter touting automatic gearbox and Audi’s patented Torsen torque sensing Quattro four-wheel drive system – the latter providing a nominal 40:60 apportioning of drive front-to-rear.

The 3.0 TDI, which is expected to account for the majority of UK sales, possesses a claimed 0-62mph time of 6.3sec and 142mph top speed along with combined cycle consumption of 49.6mpg and average CO2 emissions of just 149g/km. This represents respective gains of 1.6sec, 8mph, 11.4mpg and 146g/km.

The 3.0 TFSI offers greater performance with a 0-62mph of 6.1sec and 155mph top speed, but predictably it can’t match the diesel for outright economy and emissions, with a claimed 36.7mpg and 179g/km. By comparison, the old model posted respective figures of 7.9sec, 140mph, 26.4mpg and 249g/km.

The maximum towing capacity for both models is put at 3500kg.

Also planned, but not likely to form part of the launch line-up in the UK, is a less powerful 3.0 TDI Ultra model. It runs a less highly tuned version of the turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 common rail diesel engine with 215bhp and 369lb ft of torque.

For selected markets, including China and North America, Audi has also developed a 2.0 TFSI model that uses a longitudinally mounted version of the German car maker’s widely used turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct injection petrol engine with 249bhp and 370Nm of torque.

The second-generation Q7 is based on a heavily modified version of Audi’s MLB platform that uses a combination of hot-formed high strength steel and aluminium as part of Audi’s weight reduction program.

The same platform is also planned to underpin successors to the second-generation Volkswagen Touareg, second-generation Porsche Cayenne, upcoming Bentley Falcon and, possibly, a production version of the Lamborghini Urus.

The new Audi rides on a standard steel suspension, although buyers can specify an option air suspension. Also standard are 18-inch wheels with 235/55 tyres.

Some info about the sound system from here: 2016 Audi Q7 Arrival Marks Intro Of 23-Speaker 3D Sound System

When the all-new 2016 Audi Q7 goes on sale next year, it will be available with a new 3D sound system that gives your favorite tunes a spatial dimension. So instead of just the left and right channels you also get spatial height. According to Audi, the addition of this third dimension makes the sounds even clearer and more vivid.

But creating the setup isn’t just a matter of specific speaker positioning. At its core is a complex algorithm that calculates the control signals for each speaker swiftly and precisely.

In the first stage of the process, the software breaks the data for the music source down into its spatial components. It does this by using the spatial information contained in the data. For example, when an artist is singing from a stage, surrounding surfaces such as the floor, ceiling and walls of the concert hall reflect the sound with different time lapses. Using these different sonic reflections, the algorithm is able to calculate a mathematical model of any recording room.

The second stage of the process involves reassembling the sound portions so that the sound pattern inside the car corresponds to the original recording room. A digital signal processor uses 11 channels with a total of 23 speakers to produce the new 3D sound. Four of the speakers positioned in the A-pillars are what create the spatial height. The best part is that it works with almost any type of audio—whether streaming internet music, a CD, FM radio, or even a high-quality 5.1 surround-sound recording.

In the 2016 Q7, the new 3D sound system will be available with either the Bose or more expensive Bang & Olufsen sound systems designed for the new SUV. Audi developed the technology in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen, Germany. A similar system with 12 speakers will be available on the 2016 TT.

The tall SQ7 ain't a sport car, and thus can't be driven as such.
