If this car is AWD with DSG, they are going to have a LOT of buyers. This is basically going to be a great seller for anyone that wants a sports car that's also luxurious in the snowbelt states. If this car was coming out early next year, I'd definitely buy it for a daily driver. If they throw a typically beautiful Audi interior in there, Audi's going to make a lot of money off this car.

When the '06 A3 first came out in the 2.0T model it was rather bland (I still loved it) but when they brought out the 3.2 model, they combined it with the S-line kit that looks a lot more aggresive and sporty.

The A4 is the same thing, they have the base, and the additional S-Line kit.

Now for the '07 A3, they've expanded and added the S-Line for the 2.0T model as well.

I'm sure with this model they will introduce the model, see how it fairs on the market and later possibly have the upgrade to an S-Line model which would provide a sportier suspension and upgraded bumpers, etc.

They dont' launch it with all the bells and whistles from the start.

I'm not talking about bells and whistles, I'm talking about the front end. The A6 has the most boring Audi front end out of all their cars. And the above pic looks a lot like it, although it's probably just an A6 PS.

Audi plans a new way to build cars, will debut on the A5 in 2007 - - By JASON STEIN | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS EUROPE - - Source: Autoweek

ZELL AM SEE, Austria -- Audi's upcoming A5 coupe will be the first example of the automaker's new way of developing cars.

Audi's modular platform strategy will be the basis for the A5.

The strategy uses a set of modular, longitudinal building kits -- an air conditioner system, for example -- that are shared among a product family. The modular approach can bring cost savings and enable a quick introduction of variants.

"It is a combination of basic parts, yet with different geometries," said Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi's technical leader for electronics and concept vehicles, during an interview at the launch of the TT premium coupe here earlier this month. "It will allow for more dynamic products."

Audi's modular approach will allow the carmaker to launch more niche vehicles and nearly double its annual global sales to 1.4 million units by 2015.

Last year, Audi sold 829,100 vehicles globally, up from 779,441 units in 2004.

Audi Chairman Martin Winterkorn has said Audi's lineup will expand to 40 models by 2015 from 22 currently. The product offensive will be complemented by Audi's plans to improve productivity by 10 percent per year, Winterkorn said, and the flexible platform allows different models such as sedans, station wagons, coupes and crossovers to be built.

The A5, a large two-door coupe, is expected in 2007. The A5 will target the Mercedes-Benz CLK class buyers. By 2008, Audi plans to roll out an A3 convertible, the Q5 SUV and the R8 sports car. The German press has reported Audi also is interested in producing an A7 four-door coupe-styled car that would compete against the BMW 6 series. Hackenberg would not confirm future product plans.

Product offensive

Audi is expected to add these models to its lineup by 2010.

A2 New model due by 2009
A3 S model due this year
A4 Replaced in 2008
A5 Debut in 2007
A7 Debut in 2008
A8 Replaced in 2010
Q5 Debut in 2008

Audi to build A5 convertible in-house, sources say - - By JENS DRALLE | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS EUROPE - - Source: Autoweek

MUNICH – Audi will build its new A5 convertible in-house, supplier sources say.

The lower-premium softtop will debut in autumn 2008 and will replace the A4 softtop convertible.

German coachbuilder Karmann currently builds the A4 softtop.

The A5 convertible will be built at Audi’s factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. The A5 coupe, which debuts at the end of the year, will be built in Ingolstadt.

Audi will use the A5 name for its lower-premium coupe and convertible models. The A4 will be built only in sedan and station wagon variants.

Great new CGIs. I like the addition to the curves in the body. It's a great departure from the more slab sided look that they've held on to for years.
