Alfa Romeo unveils sporty MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde
At Alfa Romeo, the four leaf clover is traditionally a sign of very good – sporty – things and it appears that the hottest version of the MiTo compact hatchback follows tradition. Boasting 170 horsepower from a diminutive 1.4-liter MultiAir TBi four-cylinder, the MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde offers an impressive 124 horsepower per liter.
The 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is also relatively clean for a sporty performance model. It emits 139 g/km of CO2 and averages an impressive 49 mpg in the European combined cycle – figures not normally applicable to vehicles that produce 124 horsepower per liter and can sprint to 62 mph in around 7 seconds.
A new six-speed manual gearbox designed by FPT and built in Verrone, Italy, also makes its debut. Alfa Romeo says it offers faster gear changes and a more precise feel.
Underneath it all, the Quadrifoglio Verde receives a new dynamic suspension system with electronically-controlled shock absorbers that offer three modes aimed at normal, inclement weather and sporty driving.
Italy’s mainstream style leader also saw fit to upgrade the MiTo’s looks. Special 17-inch satin titanium finish aluminum wheels, inspired by the 8C Competizione, also lend their shade to the headlight frames and side mirror housings.
Inside, special sports seats and unique white dashboard lighting make an appearance.
