We'll see.... I guess they figure since they can't sell a $45k+ car, they'll try to get it on a piece of the pie with a $45k+ SUV.

Good luck trying to sell 20K of these things - I don't see it happening.

I'm going to go out on a medium to large sized limb here and guess they won't hit 20K per year. I think most people will get to the dealership and probably end up buying the cheaper, more pratical MDX that has the same drive train.

Not necessarily a bad thing I suppose.

at MSX being a Halo car. it's not even that revolutionary. Acura wasn't even the first to make a CUV.

From my perspective, a Halo car is one that not only demonstrates the brands success, but should be the epitomy of what the brand's focus, integrity, strength, foundation, and it's character is all about. And if the MSX is a halo car, then Acura is living up to the reputation it's had for the last 5 years, at the least.

I don't think this is a halo car, but it appears it will be the top of the line for the time being. Everyone keeps saying this is going to be MDX based, and it probably is, but the same underpinnings could also describe the RL. Maybe this is a modern interpretation of the old Legend coupe? (ie. more stylish at the expense of utility). Viewed from this point of view, it is acceptable to sell in low volumes and put form over function.

LOL the Legend coupe was a beloved car, but the reality is that if the introduced it today, you would all blast it. I don't want another round of CLs or Legend coupes. Big FWD 2 doors can be sold under the Honda banner.

The next generation of chassis are supposed to be underway, but in the mean time you still have to build and sell cars AND this means you (the mfg.) have to use whats available. If you can fit 4 sets of clubs and 4 guys, this new vehicle will serve well where the RL has difficulty.

20K/yr is not low volume -the NSX was low volume (and the RL now).

I was kinda assuming that in this economy it would sell similar to the RL or X6 so yeah, low volume. I don't think that it's 'cast in stone' where the demarcation line between 'high volume' and 'low volume' is. Should I have said 'relatively low volume?"

The FX is selling pretty well

over 1000 sales last month (and this is in a down economy...)

I don't think the MSX going to sell in MDX/TL/TSX numbers but it should do better than RL (especially if the interior is as nice as insiders are saying).

The RL sales projections were also at 20K/yr and look on how it fared.

....and this is a supposedly higher priced niche vehicle....

I agree that it will fall somewhere in between. If the plans were for 20K a year and the industry is down 40%, I expect to see corresponding figures. My thoughts are that this was never planned to be a (relatively) high volume car, so if it becomes a (relatively) low volume vehicle, it probably hurts less than the TL becoming a low(er) volume car.

looks car-like a la that new nissan cuv.

the fin atenna suggests that the door line delineates the rear hatch. the view through the rear window must be horrendous.

im worried about the grille, however the grille, along with the wheels are photoshopped in for marketing reasons. if you look at the wheels, they are identical. the notching in the rotors line up with the spokes in both front and rear wheels. also, the lighting on the "beak" is unnatural. you could tell its added in.

i guess the fender flare seen in the TL will start being incorporated into the line up. The MSX has the same thing on the rear wheel.

i agree with others, this car wil stand much taller if its on the MDX platform.

also, i cant stand that fake rear side window that is used for the sake of manipulating a window line. its POOR design. its an indication of gimmicky non-function...which really seems to be where acura is headed lately.

Methinks that was the point....

Looking Acura's scaling of the beak grill - smaller and neater on the TSX, bigger and ungainly-er on the TL - it seems like this one is going to be even a bigger fail. They should just tack on the shield the spartans used in 300 on the front of the MDX, drop it a couple of inches and call it a day.

Could it be that some of the original rumors of this thing having suicide rear doors be true?

I'm afraid I agree that this grill will be sized out of bounds with the other lines (similar to the TL). The TSX looks more acceptable, but remember that is the Euro Accord, so they had to fit it inside the already existing lines. The TL seems to be the real "Acura" implementation of this new icon grill . I don't particularly care for it, but better get used to it for awhile until it runs it's course.
