Oooh! I like! Just like others have said, I love the fact that the grille does not go over to the hood. It is so much cleaner looking this way (like the TSX). Now, the only thing is, with this light silver color, you cannot tell the "impact" of the plenum!!! LOL! How does all that chrome really stand out with a darker body color?

I didn't look through all of the posts the followed the photo - does anyone notice the roof? Does it look like there will finally be a panoramic roof in an Acura?

^^^ yea seems that rumor about the roof is true. Also, not sure how close this is to the production version, but the side mirrors are not body color. That's a deviation from the current models.

side mirror is that same shiny black plastic that the 3rd gen TL had on its windows. And they changed it for the 4th gen

Lightbulb Thoughts

I do not think that I see blinkers on the side view mirrors

The black roof may be a panaromic.

If that is chrome going around the fog lights/vents - that might be a bit much.

Rims could be a bit flashier but @ least it is not the usual Acura 5 spoke.

Overall not bad ... does not seem to be as daring as their more recent work.

While the grill doesn't line up exactly and its not as offensive as the TL and RL, it still rings true of what I think of basically any car with that terrible shield grill.... it could be so much better! It just seems pointless to try and establish a "face" for the brand a la BMW kidneys when you're shooting yourself in the foot with every design you come out with. The Euro Accord looked a lot better than the TSX, and so on and so forth.

the autolies site has the X6 M's picture right below the ZDX and the BMW by far blows it away in design. It's so much more interesting to look at. And considering the ZDX is a concept car while the BMW is pretty much production ready, that should not be the case.
Sadly I'll agree... I'm all for crossovers but still, I don't get the point of these identity crisis vehicles. At least this one is quite a bit different than the MDX, meanwhile the X5 and X6 look like they could have been twins at one point. In the end the X6 still looks miles better even though I think its truly a useless model.

The FX is in your face and aggressive. This, not so much. And the wheels??? They looked just as boring on the 06-08 TSX.

Its not as bad as I thought. I don't like it because it looks like an X6. However it wasnt what I was expecting.

I think they should at least get some door handles first.

I don't think it's be a whole generation unless you're waiting for RWD. The way I see it, Acura has no place to go (coupe wise). The Civic covers the low ground, and the Accord Coupe the middle ground. This would leave $30K+ for Acura but they would have to use the TL/TSX chassis. The market has shown over the course of the last 15 years that they are not interested in FWD coupes at $30K+ when there are RWD alternatives.

I actually like it, kinda has a hatchback vibe, like if Porsche had a 928 AWD crossover variant with 4 doors.

Anybody else notice that they are using the 06-08 TSX wheels on this car. Did they just recycle it?

Yup! I posted this earlier but I really think that too many people are looking at this as an SUV without the utility. I'm really hoping that this plays out to be (effectively) a really spacious RL coupe

Those aren't TSX wheels. TSX wheels are 17 inchers, those ZDX version are much bigger.

The design cues suggest a TL SUV/Coupe.

Obviously not the exact same wheels but they are pretty much the same terrible design.

Acura has got 1 set of wheels right in recent memory, the wheels on the 09 SHAWD TL. Whomever is in charge of wheels should be canned ASAP.

Exactly, only it looks smaller in length to me than an RL. More like a raised TSX coupe or something.

People have to get over the fact that it's raised like an SUV/crossover, because it's not meant to be one of those. In my mind, it's pretty similar to a 2-seater like an S2000, only it's higher up. Neither have much (if any) utility. Also, IMO, the same can be said for vehicles like the Nissan Rogue. It's so small, there's no utility to it.

It pretty much looks like a sports4 hatchback

The car (CUV) is not bad looking. It's not as bold as the Infiniti FX but it is decent looking. It's definitely not as controversial as the 3G or 2G TL/RL respectively. However, like others stated, I don't see the point. I thought the RDX was supposed to be the cross over utility vehicle? It is afterall based on the TSX. Is this thing supposed to be a hatchback in disguise?

My thinking exactly. IMHO, it's kind of pointless (similar to the X6). You've got the RDX and MDX... where does this fit? Then again, it's much more wagon-esque than the RDX and MDX, so maybe there will be a place for it.

^^^ "wagon-esque". I agree. Not everyone wants to climb up into their vehicle. If this can provide a more versitle design with a back hatch and more headroom, then it will fill a needed nitch. Especially if gas starts going up again soon. It's true the X6 sales have been dismal, but the X6 looks like crap. This is much more "car" like than the X6 or the FX - lower stance, wider looking track. The dimensions look more balanced. Depending on price, I think this will be way more successful than the X6 and the FX. I think Acura got this one right for a change.

All-New Acura ZDX Debuts at New York International Auto Show
Date: April 08, 2009 11:00
Submitted by: Jeff
Source: Acura PR
Credibility Rating: Not Specified

Provocative Four-Door Sports Coupe Goes On-Sale This Fall
NEW YORK, April 8, 2009 – A prototype of the provocative Acura ZDX luxury four-door sports coupe made its world debut at the New York International Auto Show today. The production version of the dramatically styled prototype goes on-sale in the fall of 2009. The segment bending ZDX features stunning coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexibility utility.

“The ZDX is truly a luxury performance coupe – plus,”
said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. “The emotional coupe styling coupled with a luxurious and dramatic interior and surprising versatility, allows the ZDX to define its own segment and attract an entirely new customer.”

The ZDX is designed to break new ground for Acura in the areas of provocative styling, contemporary luxury and meticulous refinement. With its sensuous curves, sharply raked roofline and bold fender flares, the ZDX blurs the distinction between coupe, sedan and sport utility vehicle. Clean, flowing lines start from the headlights and run the length of the car, accentuating the cars presence and grace. In keeping with the coupe-inspired styling, the rear door handles are cleverly concealed in the C-pillar. The all-glass tailgate opens wide to reveal a highly functional cargo space with integrated under-floor storage. The prototype is finished off with stylish dual chrome exhaust outlets and 9-spoke machined wheels fitted with 20-inch Michelin tires.

“From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be,”
said Michelle Christensen, ZDX exterior designer. “My goal was to create a strikingly beautiful exterior, and use that attraction to help draw you into the rich interior.”

Inside, the ZDX exudes modern luxury while focusing on pampering the front passengers. The cabin is enveloped in leather, which gives the interior a luxurious and inviting feel. The hand-stitched leather dash and instrument panel sweep down to form a dual cockpit layout, creating a personal and intimate experience for the front seat occupants. The premium leather seats are highly bolstered to support the passengers during sporty driving and at the same time provide comfort during a long getaway. A black monochromatic center stack leads to the textured metallic center console, which complements the black and pearl white leather trim. The thick leather wrapped steering wheel provides ample grip and is framed by racing-inspired paddle shifters for the ultimate in driver control. The cabin is enclosed by a panoramic glass roof which runs the entire length of the vehicle, providing occupants with a breathtaking view of the world around them.

The production ZDX will bring a new level of prestige and sophistication when it arrives at Acura dealerships in the fall, offering the latest advancements in performance, technology and safety. The ZDX will deliver sports sedan performance on the road with its powerful V-6 engine mated to an all-new, smooth shifting 6-speed automatic transmission. The potent powertrain will be coupled with Acura’s exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system, giving the ZDX outstanding handling and cornering capabilities in all-weather conditions.

In typical Acura fashion, the ZDX will be available with the latest in customer enhancing technologies and advanced safety features including an all-new blind spot information system, which will help drivers change lanes more confidently. A new multi-view rear camera makes parking even easier with the added enhancement of both a wide angle and top down view. Acura signature technologies like Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic and Weather™, Acura/ELS Surround® premium audio system and Bluetooth® connectivity will also be available on the all-new model.

The ZDX represents the next step for Acura in its advancement to becoming one of the top luxury brands and makes a clear statement toward the future of the brand.

ZDX Prototype Dimensions:
Length: 192.4 inches
Width: 78.5 inches
Height: 61.8 inches
Wheelbase: 108.2 inches
Wheel/tire: 9-spoke custom alloy wheels with Michelin Latitude HP 275/40ZR 20 tires
Powertrain: All-aluminum VTEC® V-6, all-new 6-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) Seating capacity: 5-passenger

muhfrikin

the wheels look different in the profile pics. they've got a chiseled look to the spokes. but it's still a boring design.

anyways, i like the rear and profile. dunno about the exhaust. looks like the TL's. but from the profile pic, doesn't look like the grille extends to the hood.

and as expected, the interior looks good.

^^ That's unique. A reflector/backup package integrated with the exhaust. Also, still can't figure out how you open the back doors

I really wish they would stop calling it a coupe. Its a slap in the face to every Acura customer (GreenMonster ) that's been asking for a coupe for years now.
