Acura: ZDX News
August6
Although SUV sales are tanking, crossover utility vehicles are just coming into their own. Moreover, sport CUVs – such as Infiniti’s FX and BMW’s X6 – are becoming increasingly popular. Apparently Acura has caught onto this trend as spy photographers have spotted a new crossover from Honda’s luxury brand while out testing. This still-unnamed prototype was spotted for the first time this week, and witnesses are speculating - contrary to the camouflaged disguise - that this will have so-called coupe-like styling, just like the aforementioned CUVs. We believe this CUV may be riding on the same chassis as the 2009 TL. This would probably mean similar, if not identical, powertrain setups. More details are surely to follow soon, as daytime photos are inevitable. It was reported earlier this week that Acura is planning to expand its lineup, and this new CUV could be just the first step in that plan. |

So this is Acura's new "four-door-coupe" ?
Acura's version of the X6? |
Meh. Stupid Honda.

Sporty Acura CUV Caught Testing Again Acura confirmed recently a number of plans to expand its lineup with several all-new models in an attempt to compete with more established tier 1 luxury brands such as its German rivals, which currently offer full range lineups. The upmarket Honda label is limited to a handful of sedans and a pair of SUVs but the next couple of years will be very busy as the company prepares for the launch of a new coupe, a supercar, and according to these spy shots a new crossover as well. The prototype for the upcoming sporty crossover was first spotted testing at night in California’s Death Valley back in August. The latest shots show the car during the day and reveal an extremely low roofline that starts to descend after the B-pillar. This gives it a coupe-like profile similar to BMW's X6, which will be one of its main rivals. Acura is yet to reveal any specific details about a new crossover model, however the company’s vice president for corporate planning and logistics, Dan Bonawitz, confirmed recently that Acura’s first all-new model would be launched in 2010 and that it would be followed by the NSX-replacement later that same year. This means the crossover could feature a V8 engine, which Acura plans to introduce within the next 18 months. The other engine option would likely include the current 3.7L V6. Honda’s Super-Handling AWD system would also likely come as standard. |
I could care less about pointless crossovers. :dunno:
Focus on a RWD sedan or coupe. |
seriously, they want a 3rd suv and ZERO coupes?

I'm pretty sure crossovers sell more than entry level luxury coupes. That determines what direction Acura takes with their next vehicles.... they scraped by with V6s for as long as possible and when they realize that a V6 just won't cut it on the over $50k segment, they announce a V8. So they're just trying to take advantage of the market while they can.
|
Yay.....another crossover.
|
You can see the grill...
|
Quick chop work here: The results are clear....it's gonna have the ugly Acura Beak :ugh:
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/5782/ughsa2.jpg ...and the beak is gonna be set far above the headlights once again (like the TL) instead of in line with them. :whyme: |
Hopefully the beak will be more TSX-like instead of TL-like. I can't stomach the latter one.

Spy Shots: Acura’s X6 Rival Spotted Near the Nurburgring
Posted: October 21st, 2008 Buzz up! Filed under: Acura, Spy Shots/Renderings It looks like more Acura models will be getting a V8 rather than just the flagship RL sedan. According to these latest spy shots by GlobalMotors.net, Acura is working on an X6 rival that should hit the markets by 2011. A prototype was spotted driving around the streets of the Nurburgring. Sources say that Acura will fit its new V8 in the crossover that was recently confirmed for the Acura RL flagship. Rumor has it that the crossover will carry an ‘MSX badge.’ Head over to GlobalMotors.net for more shots. |
MSX? They really need to go back to "real" names instead of these stupid alphanumeric things.
|
Acura still makes new cars  i thought they just change the grills and thorw 'em back out on the lot :dunno:

"If" the "X" designates cross-over/SUV (MDX, RDX....MSX) then why is the small 4 door sedan called the TSX?!?!? RL, TL.....TSX?!?!? |
I honestly would like to see the design study where they showed the grill. Were the other designs that much worse that this was the best design?

Instead of bringing all this attention by such camouflage queens, they should just use current bodies to test future platforms (like the stretch TSX). This X6 competitor just makes no sense - it's not like this segment will take off like the SUV fad.:whyme: |
Definitely FWD based.
Only Honda would challenge the X6 and FX with a FWD platform. :whyme: |
the front can't possibly be uglier than the FX, right?

Horray! Just what we need! More of that grill and another cross over. I thought the cross over SUV trend shit is a thing of the pass?

Interior

Still no push button start?
If this is really a 2011 vehicle, lots of things will change between now and then. |

I see it as well. No way this is a 2011 intro. More like next spring/summer/fall as an 2010. The interior is production ready.
|
the interior looks sharp as expected.
|
interior looks like the MDX interior which is a good thing, lets hope they get this coupe going just as quick :wish:
|
^ yeah I like all the swooping curves. But I see a lot of silver...
|
good lord, not another CUV!
|
Less buttons on the center stack = GOOD!
Lots of silver plastic = BAD |
Split and stuck. Carry on, folks!

I have a feeling the exterior will look like a lifted TSX with a hatch. :whyme: |
