Acura: TLX News

Well, PERSONALLY, and obviously, it does not impact sdk2k1's perception -- which is what all this new debate is about, perception -- I FEEL that Acura's delay is a negative thing.
Don't announce something and then shortly after, postpone it because it only leads to negative posturing if anything. And that's all we're doing, posturing...but, none of it is POSITIVE stuff. We're speculating now if it is the drivetrain or the transmission or the computer or etc. etc.
Poor planning on Acura's part IMO.

But you know if BMW is doing it then it must be ok because TL has been as successful as BMW.

Kimchi's opinion of cars if it is not an Audi or BRZ: Sea creature.

He is been saying Sperm Whale and Sea Creature a lot lately.
I wonder what is causing him to relate everything to those terms?

perhaps the need to postpone the release of the tlx came after the announcement?

And no, the X6 looks worse than my after eating 12 bean burritos. So, NO.
I already said, I would not be in the FX if the new iteration of Evoque or the current gen of the Cayenne were available.
But, I'm guessing you think the Evoque and Cayenne look like sea urchins.

I was referring to your posts in the thread and it was applicable to the argument at hand; by definition, that wasn't a personal attack. If I'd called you insulting names instead of addressing the content and tone of your argument that would be a personal attack (the classic ad hominem).
Oh, okay, I see. You don't want me to comment on any news in this thread. Weird, but I suppose you can criticize my commentary into eternity if you wish.

You leave my FX50 out of this, Kimchi. What else could I have bought that has that sort of amenities and HP for this goddamn climate?!?? Yeah. Nothing.

That's the market, is it not? The market perceives and market buys. This is how Apple has been winning so much in the tablet/smartphone war...
What I judge (and others) is Honda/Acura's WHOLE picture. You have the TLX and RLX which aren't bad but leaves us...wanting more...wanting them to aim HIGHER than Lincoln and Buick.
AIM FOR BMW, dammit. But, no. Then, you take into consideration the abominations like the ZDX, Crosstour, and other weird decisions and voila...lots of venom and spew.
It's the whole picture that is leading to this naysaying of the brand by a number of former owners.
I loved my CL-S...even with the transmissions issues...but, there is NOTHING right now in Acura that would take my hard-earned $$$ that the others in the market does not seem to do better. And no, I don't want Lincoln/Buick. So, yeah...you do get some snarking from someone like me on occasion.
Now, you may have no issues with Acura's presentation of their cars. But, let me ask you: Do you not feel (given what I have just outlined here), that Acura can do ALOT better?

And skd2k1, back to what I wrote above: As hokey as the slogan is, Acura's is "Advance". To compete directly with Lincoln and Buick...that's not advancing.
Advancing is making a product that makes BMW swear in German to itself and rip-up it's plans for the 3er or 5er and go back to the drawing board; offering performance and functions that their cars do NOT possess. THAT, to me...is what I perceive as "Advance".

I also will hate on BMW's iDrive. It's BETTER now...but, that's not saying much. And, prior versions were exercises in hair-pulling.

it seems to me that acura's change in design language has left a bad taste in a lot of folks mouths, I can't really blame them either, but I think bc of this the tlx is being judged unfairly. that said, what's under the skin at acura, philosophically speaking, seems to be consistent.
I left bmw for acura because I was tired of having reliability issues and I was tired of paying bmw prices. I think acura delivers a better value. if I was in the market for a track tool now, it'd probably be a gtr or one of the new z28's (even though I'm not a fan of the looks).

if acura was listening to me, I'd say they need to offer a tlx type-s or *gasp* type-r (with visible exhaust!). I think the tlx gt has a tt v6 w/sh-awd! but, I want acura to retain their value, as I'm not interested in $55k for a turbo 4cyl.
thanks for the well thought out post.

if you disagree we can settle this in a kof match!

Acura doesn't need to make BMW or any other brand sweat. They're fine with being 2nd tier, I'm fine with them being 2nd tier. But even stinkin Lincoln is coming out with better designed cars.

I'm fine with a delay, but this is getting ridiculous.
First NSX, then RLX SH, now TLX.
This is like watching my beloved, but bumbling Cavs in the post-LeBron era which, my dear Internet friends, is NOT easy. Can we just start the rebuild again and throw away all the pieces because none of them is working?
Yeah, like I'm looking for e-pity for rooting on a permanently sucky basketball team. Maybe I can convince the wife to move to Miami so we can root on a winning basketball team after 20 years of cheering on losing teams.
Acura is a lot the same with its sedans and the NSX.
I should just buy an Accord. At least I know Honda got that right. .

I don't disagree, but if you had to put your finger on it, where exactly do you think Acura is falling short?
Me, I wish they had more aggressive, edgy looking cars. Their core engineering principles are essentially the same as ever and relative to their competition they are essentially in the same ballpark as before, but I think they've dropped the ball in terms of styling on the 4G TL and RLX.
One thing I've found about Acura, is that they're like your parents. You hate the boring things they make you do, but in the end they're usually right. I think the TLX is like that. Sure it tends to look nondescript/bland, but like designs before it such as the Legend, Integra, TSX, I think it will age well and hopefully it continues Honda's long line of reliable cars. There's no defending the production delay, but I think that's one of the lesser blunders Acura's made.
