Will that TLX, assuming (big if) it looks LIKE that come production version, make you pick it over say, a BMW 3-Series? Or Audi A4...?
Honestly, again, while it is not a step backwards for Honda (thank goodness), it still doesn't make me do a double-take and say, yup, my next car is an Acura like that.
I'd keep your current vehicle and use your $$$ for more cool timepieces.

1) interior space, can you seat 5 comfortably?
2) price
Same reasons I picked he RSpec. No other brand came close to matching the package.
And yes I am using the money I saved with Geico to buy more timepieces

Much better than we had all expected. d
The rear and side profile look great. The front is still rocking the fucking beak.
The boosted 2.4L should have +240hp/tq. The V6 doesn't interest me at all. I'm sure it's the same J-series.
If the car doesn't weight too much and match the boosted 4 with a 6MT when MMC kicks in, the car should be plenty fun to drive.
Hope the production version won't sit too high and bring back the exhaust outlets. Oh, and the pricing... Acura, please don't overprice the thing.
Good to see them moving in the right direction though.

I would pick it over the 3-series and A4 based on a few things:
1) interior space, can you seat 5 comfortably?
2) price
Same reasons I picked he RSpec. No other brand came close to matching the package.

The sizzle in the Steak
Still has the same VERY dated Acura front end that's been around for +15 years.
Beak still lives on...muted, but still there. That 5-point front end grille design is so very limiting.
They fixed the rear of the horrible previous gen. So points for Acura there.
Side profile is nice, but conservative. Nothing ground breaking or earth shattering here.....for Acura that is a good thing. Go vanilla like the RDX, and sales will follow.
Transmissions: Finally some good news out of Acura! Nice job there.
Engines: meh. Still behind the pack.
Why anyone would buy this over an Accord Touring is beyond me.
Will it really be $15k more for SH-AWD?...as compared to an Accord Touring? Why?
...Keep in mind the above is regarding this concept. Honda/Acura have a VERY bad habit of having the bean counters step in and watering down and adding tons of vanilla to the concept for the production model.

Is this finally coming to life??? I remember drooling over it so long ago and hoping it would be my next TSX...
Can't wait to see if this car will feel small and nimble like the TSX or if it will be a boat.
And for god's sake Acura PLEASE give it split-folding rear seats.

YES! YES! YESSSSSS! YES! WOWWWWWW.
Someone at Acura is listening to our gripes about style. They did not fsck up, repeat, they did not fsck up!
Screw the RLX. TLX, here I come. 1 J35 SH-AWD TLX to go, please. And can I get a manual with that?

Totally agree, can't assume anything until we see the actual car they put on sale.

Acura's positioning strategy has been terrible. Hope they realized it from RLX.

I am so glad the rear is not Pointy anymore.
looks so much better than the current TL.
But this is a prototype. Who knows what the product version is gonna look like? those 20" will not make it for sure. So expect 4x4 look with 17".
Overall Meh... The same as IS. Looks good inside out with outdated engine options.

With that said, I think it will perform okay. The Accord Sport 6MT has a power to weight ratio of 17.3lb/hp. If the 2.4L unit in the TLX makes 205hp and has the same power to weight ratio, then it will be at 3550lb, which is probably how heavy a base TLX 2.4 will be. The 2G TSX 6MT was at 3383lb for reference.
The Accord Sport 6MT I4 is capable of 0-60mph in mid 6's and 1/4 mile in low 15's@ 90+mph. The TLX with its 2 extra gears and DCT setup should at the very least match the Accord Sport 6MT. These numbers should put the TLX comfortably faster than a IS250 and right in line with the underrated 320i.

I already asked this.
The pricepoint, interior, and final look will be factors for sure. But, for ME, even if it retains the concept look which isn't bad, I would not choose it over a 3-Series or A4.
Although, in fairness to Honda, I think the 3-Series and A4 are not the TLX's direct competitors anymore.
I think it is Lincoln or Buick these days.

I knew that already, but can't a brotha dream? Realistically, if a manual is offered (and given prior experience, it will be, eventually), it will be on the 2.4 l DI engine. This IS Honda, after all. :roll eyes:
The last TL I felt positive about was the 3G.....and oldsters here knew I was a 3G TL OG. This is something I can actually plunk a deposit on, interior and final drivetrains willing.
This is the look I was kinda hoping for from the RLX, but didn't get. If I can get this with the J35, mechanical SH-AWD, and the 9-speed tranny, I think I'll be good.
I am officially putting in a PLEA to Acura to not. change. a. thing. about. the exterior. before production.

It's likely a carry over from the Accord. 2.4 liters. Direct Injection. Only difference is the DCT vs the CVT in the Accord.... DCT should help with performance.

DCT with a plus
The company also announced an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) for transverse installations, which it intends to use in larger and higher-performance models in the Acura range and the upper ends of the Honda lineup.
But Honda has added an interesting fillip to the increasingly common DCT technology: a torque converter like that in a conventional automatic to smooth takeoff and low-speed downshifts, the points at which regular DCTs become jerky as they must slip their clutches to mimic the behavior of an automatic.
A brief lap of the Honda high-speed circuit in a 2013 Accord sedan equipped with the new 8-speed DCT with torque converter showed it to perform about as claimed.
Under power, accelerating up to highway speeds (and beyond), the feel was that of a DCT: fast sequential shifts.
But during a slow rollout from stop, the torque converter absorbed any surging or irregularity in torque delivery to the wheels in a way that few conventional DCTs have so far.

Wait, I'm watching the announcement and the guy says "an 8 sp dual clutch transmission with a torque converter".
Huh?
Edit: damn, someone else just got it too.

Speculatively, the main difference would be throttle response. The CVT in the Accord is very responsive (for a CVT) but it could be better.

The 2015 should theoretically hit showrooms in ~10 months. That doesn't give them a whole lot of time to screw things up. I'm not in the industry, but the body looks production ready, minus the mirrors and possibly the bumpers. I'd don't foresee it changing a whole lot for the production version.

As for the Accord Touring, 3 series, A4, IS comparison, it's hard to say at this moment. We have no idea what the interior is like in terms of design and quality. We don't know how well the car drives. We have no clue how well the car will do in performance tests. We also need to find out what features the car will have, and at what price range.
They explained about this when they had that VTEC Turbo press release. The idea is to have fast shifts when the car is moving, without sacrificing ride comfort. As you may know, many DCT equipped cars are not very smooth when pulling away from idle. The torque converter eliminates this issue completely.

2 - if it doesn't look good (and the current iteration of Acura's face most certainly doesn't), then it needs to be changed yesterday.

Acura TLX GT Race Car
Coinciding with the reveal of the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Acura has confirmed that a version of the car designed for motorsport will compete in the GT category of the growing and highly competitive Pirelli World Challenge. The North American-based series features a variety of familiar vehicles racing on a wide range of circuits, from tight street tracks like Long Beach and St. Petersburg to wide and fast circuits such as Austin’s Circuit of the Americas.

The presenter says there will be PAWS on the FWD models.
Buh-bye RLX FWD......we hardly knew ye. I mean, why have both?
"The other end of the TLX is......3.5 liter engine.....9-speed transmission.....available in 2WD PAWS and SH-AWD. 25% lighter and new vectoring that improves performance."
Again,
I'm half ready to march into the dealer and offer a deposit. Not kidding. I did not feel this way about the RLX.

Not even if the TLX is as pot hole proof as the RLX and retains its best in class ground clearance, vent placement, side mirror aerodynamics, fuel economic, handling with all season tire setup, and resale value?
