It's interesting that only 33% of Civic sales is the HEV model, while it's 56% for the CRV and 60% for the Accord. I wonder how much of that is due to a supply issue with the hybrid Civics, or if it's just buyers who are unwilling (unable?) to pay that price premium. Apples-to-apples it's a $2700 premium which seems like a pretty good deal but perhaps not to someone's whos budget limits them to the LX trim.

The regular Civic already gets very good milage so the gas savings are not really there over the typical ownership period.

That’s true, it’s about a $300-$400/year difference on gas, so it’ll take a while to break even. That said, it’s a more refined powertrain and you do get more power (it’s faster than the Si even).

The sales uptick (40% on the Ridgeline) in Odyssey/Passport/Ridgeline's is interesting, curious what that's all about (sales incentives, market,....)

The CR-V makes up ~1/3 of all nine models of Honda vehicle sales.

It's wild how well Honda is doing: the Civic outsold the Corolla, the CRV outsold the RAV4, the HRV outsold the CorollaCross, the Odyssey outsold the Sienna, the Passport outsold the Highlander, the Pilot outsold the Grand Highlander, and the Prologue outsold the BZ4X...and yet Acura still gets its tail handed to them by Lexus.

Clearly Honda knows how to build and sell cars and is even beating Toyota in a number of segments, but they still can't figure out how to translate that to Acura. Even for the crossovers that Acura does relatively well in, the TX outsold the MDX, the NX almost doubled the RDX, and the RX and GX added another 10,000 and 3,900 sales respectively that Acura had nothing to match with. One has to wonder how many sales Acura is losing to Lexus because the latter has hybrids in virtually all their models.

^ I'd say that fits.
I'd have most Honda cars over their Toyota competitors [GR models excluded]
But I'd probably take a Lexus over most Acura

Don't doubt your numbers but do you have access to Toyota sales numbers like TSX69 does for Honda?

WTH happened to the MDX?!!!

What do you mean? The MDX has always hovered around 4000 sales other than some outlier months. Current sales figures are right where you’d expect it to be.

A 40% drop from the same time last year (13% off for the year compared to 2024)?

I'm thinking too much cash on the hood on the ZDX compared to MDX?

Looking at YoY on a monthly basis isn’t a good measure. May 2024 is right when the refresh happened; it’s entirely possible that the May numbers were juiced due to incentives to move the pre-refresh models. 6300 units was an aberration; both April and June were 4100. If you care to look at the MoM sales data there shouldn’t be anything to suggest the trajectory of MDX sales has changed significantly over the past 12 months.

Looks like the ADX is starting to hit its stride. Inventory is starting to build up so I don't think there's a supply issue anymore. Annualized rate is about 27K units, which is lower than the 30K I thought it would surpass, but maybe sales will continue climbing in the months to come.

I imagine the ADX cannibalized some of those sales. If someone was planning to get a CVT Integra (which means they don’t really care too much about the driving dynamics) why not get the ADX? Plus, the eHEV Civic’s powertrain is far and away better than the CVT Integra so those are probably eating into the sales too.

That's my hunch, particuarly as the RDX is long in the tooth and not the greatest on fuel efficiency.

I'm a little surprised at the spike in Accord sales; if it maintains (to some degree), we may even see a 12th gen model.

The ADX is a nice looking little ute.
Have seen a few on the road & there's been one in front of our Costco [dealer display] a few times.

I just dont like it's powertrain but other than that, it generally looks like a slightly downsized version of the RDX which is not a bad thing.

Adding the 2.0 Hyrbid would be great at giving it a performance boost AND bumping up fuel economy. (I would say add a 2.0T but that motor will probably go out with RDX once this generation terminates.)

The Civic Hybrid drivetrain [if it will fit], which matches the Si for speed [with a CVT ] would make a nice boost

I still want to know what drugs they use in Acura's PR department to enable them to spin these numbers in the absolute most positive (some would say delusional) way possible month after month.

....such a profound fall from grace for the brand.

Sadly, they really only have one model that I would have any interest in buying: Integra Type S. Beyond that, the brand is no longer on my radar and doesn't seem to be on many other radars as well.

I really do fear, for the first time ever, that Honda is thinking about shutting Acura down. The lack of investment has really started to show, and the model mix is pretty lackluster. Of course that leads to lower sales, which leads to unhappy dealerships and salespeople, which leads to lower sales, and on and on.

I happened to be on the Acura website today and played with the "build & price" tool. The MDX is the only vehicle that's a 2026 model year. All the others are still 2025; that's what got me thinking.

They’re not gonna shut it down if their cars are still selling well for how little money they need to invest. Their crossovers are selling well, and if anything what we’re seeing is that even with minimal investment, they still sell. The R&D for the ADX was peanuts since much of the cost was already baked into the HRV development. The RDX fixed costs have long been amortized and I’m sure at this point the profit margin is massive. The MDX also had a good chunk of its dev costs mixed in with the Pilot. So long as Honda continues to create a strong baseline for Acura to start with, I don’t think it’s going anywhere.

The thing that would create a step function change for the brand would be hybrid offerings, but sadly Honda is still working on large platform hybridization. I have high hopes because their small platform hybrid solution is very very good. I just hope it’s not too late by the time they finally get it out the door.
