The Oracle has hinted of this - high-end lux coupe, higher than the CL was.

Much higher than the CL...Porsche fighter, IIRC. RWD?

We have the "rumors" from Honda that the new luxo-coupe will not be a Porsche fighter nor a CL-like (or G35-ish) car. Instead, we're going in the direction of the 6 Series and the M.B. CLK class. This new coupe will definately be larger and more luxurious, but will also have strong ties in performance to the rest of the lineup's future ideas. Rear or SH-AWD will most likely be the driveline 9out with FWD in this case). The position to go after Porsche will be with the next generation NSX (they use the words "if" and "maybe" when talking about this project, but if they're getting this involved in motorsports on multiple fronts, they're getting ready to develop a street car to follow). There is no reason do drop the kind of money in motorsports development that Honda has in the last 4 years, if you aren't intending on getting back into production performance cars. We know that in the next 2 years, there will be a new Halo car. There is also the speculation (that it seems they will go forward with) of what could be essentially a new S200-type car that is more upscale than the current car. There has been the epiphany that the lineup will need a convertible if there is intent on sharing real market space with the likes of M.B. or BMW. The RDX will be here next fall along with the new (and larger) MDX. Acura is going to assure themselves that they have both SUV markets covered (much like BMW with its X3 & X5). The lineup will stretch to 8 or 9 cars within the next 3 years and hopefully (this is just me talking here with my opinion in place) that they will drop the RSX and send it to the Honda lineup to mix with Toyota (and in some small way Mitsubishi). Mercedes-Benz already has the cheapo-entry-hatch thrown in their lineup and it crashed and burned (and they're an actual luxury brand). They learned the hard way that going after the person that wants a cheap POS in their garage just so that they can claim to have a German doesn't mean that they'll grab more market share. Maybe Acura will follow suit after the 2 more years of the RSX in its new guise. Everyone knows Honda throws in a facelift 2 years before a car either gets a total redo or it GETS THE AXE.

In other words, cross your fingers, hold your breath, start speculating...or do whatever else we normally start doing on here. Bottom line: keep an extra spot in your heart (and your garage) for a new Acura in the coming years. The intent is that we won't have to worry about people going to other makes to get the car they want from another segment that Acura hasn't yet dominated. Things are going to get interesting.

Oh, yeah, sorry to ramble on with my $.02. I figued I'd give some input. Some of it is my speculation and not entirely "official," but there is hope.

6 Series or CLK Class...that's still good. Thanks for the info.

PS - Anyone else agree with me that this site has the most Acura insider info?

Its got way more style than the SRT-4 but it still gives up almost 100ft/lbs of torque.

Come on Honda give your engines some grunt!

I'd say so since we know more than the dealers do in many cases.

That's because there are people like Justin and myself on here. That and a lot of guys in dealerships pretend to know things rather than just asking their dealer reps for knowledge. I hate when guys try to BS things rather than to better educate themselves.
Now, back to what I was doing...

How would Honda use the RSX/ Integra to compete w/ Mitsu, or Toyota? By time Acura/ Honda decides to keep or dump the RSX, make it a Honda, whatever, Mitsu will be out of business, or soon thereafter. Toyota has no cars to use to compete w/ the RSX anymore. Maybe the Scion, but it's not even carried under Toyotas name, does that make it a lower end car than Toyota?
As far as Benz and their hatch that failed, it did so bringing a car into a company that didn't have a low end car trying to nab young buyers, low end was the C230. Acura basically started out with the Integra, so I don't understand why they don't/ won't/ haven't considered it to be a good car to keep producing.
I understand the thoughts and opinions as to how the RSX doesn't fit in the Acura line-up, but neither would the NSX then. It's too sporty. I think the RSX is gonna be around a lot longer than some may think, I guess only time will tell, but I know having had two Integras and now an RSX, if they were to keep a small little rice rocket in their line-up, I would continue to buy em. My .02 that's not worth .01

But I liked the lights...just thought they would've looked better with projector headlights and Xenons.

...I would guess that business is dictating this shift. The Japanese sport coupe market, where the Integra, Celica, Eclipse resides, is on a decline. I mean, slowly but surely, it has been. The MX-6 is long gone. The 240SX went away. The Prelude has dissapeared. The Celica and RSX are rumored to be taking that trip to car heaven too. Leaving the Eclipse, which has totally went off in a different direction than where it started out at.

Infiniti had started out with a G20. The wonders the G35 did when it replaced that Nissan Primera. Anyhow either way, if Honda or Acura ends up selling the Integra/RSX I'd still wouldn't mind buying one. It wouldn't matter to me one bit whether it was badged an Acura or Honda. But for a luxury marquee that's still playing catch up to it's once impressive leading import luxury make...I'd say nix the Acura RSX.

Exactly my gripe. Projectors and xenons, simple as that.

Does anyone know if the 05 RSX has xenons? I can tell it has projectors but it looks like it's still halogen.

Kurt, is the future halo car you mentioned a performance halo along the lines of the NSX (is it the NSX) or is it the luxury halo above the RL that has been rumored?

who cares about the EL
we don't have that civic + leather in the states, so we don't care what happens to it.

It really looks more like my G3 Integra from the side in these pics than the previous version. That I like.

More info at TOV

Weight on the RSX has increased 73 lbs on the Type S. Sway bars went from 23/19 F/R to 26/21. They still havn't done nearly enogh to make this car competitive and help sales IMO.

Some of the smaller touchs are interesting. Redded out tail lights and tinted headlights, which DIY RSXers have been doing for a while. Lower ride height, increased sway bars. And if it does come with some DC5R parts it'll basically be a modded RSX-S. Not a bad "refresh"

These improvements look like they were designed to keep the RSX one step ahead of the tC...I mean, if Toyota's cheapest nameplate is offering a 160hp (and soon 200hp) coupe, then Honda's most expensive nameplate should do better than that. I think the tC is a great car and it really upping the ante for the small coupe market...but Acura needs to start re-thinking the RSX if a car as down-market as the tC can compete with it. I mean seriously, why is Acura making cars that compete with Hyundais (Tib), Toyotas (Celica), Saturns (Ion Redline) and Scions (tC) when they should be making cars that compete with Infinitis (G35c), BMWs (330ci), and even Porches (Boxster S).

Sorry Acura, 210hp in a sport coupe from a luxury automaker just doesn't cut it.

Pics are up at TOV, the official pics that is. It's a step back IMO...as I said, I'm partial to the scalloped headlights that dipped into the front bumper, so that's where I'm coming from. I do like the clearer and more detailed taillights, as I thought the previous look was a bit too cheap looking, but again I miss the dips into the bumper. I'm not feeling the wannabe projector lenses in the headlights either (from the side they look like projectors, but the front view tells the truth). And I think the whole car looks somewhat softer now.

Interior looks a little classier...the "titanium" trim isn't as loud as it used to be (read: gaudy), hell they even look real now (but I know they're not). Seats and leather definitely look improved.

Can't wait to see performance numbers for the new type-S, though.

The "REAL" 2005 RSX *pics*

Eventhough it got a 10hp bump due to a little tweaking, redline raised to 8100, stock 17" wheels, thicker swaybars, and a few cosmetic upgrades, but it also gained almost 100lbs and the price is slightly higher too. Anyway, for better or worse here it is.

The headlights and tailights are . My still goes to the 02-04 ones!!!

Hmmm...I think it was a bad idea to change the head/taillights. It looks less agressive...and kinda civicesque with those headlights...

Acura.com has the official specs up for the 2005 RSX, and www.vtec.net has a preview of the new 2005 RSX.

I persoanlly like the new look. The dips never looked good to me. The Type S gained 73lbs and the base slightly less. 17" rims probly play a part in that I'd guess, plus the larger sway bars.

TOV has a couple of other articles too, they said the new RSX-S basically has the Type-R engine. Type-R throttle body, intake manifold and camshafts. Only missing the pistons so the redline didn't increase. Not bad, and previous RSX owners wont have to import the DC5R parts anymore as Acura should be carrying the part.
