I was at the dealer on the weekend and they had 2 05 Type S RSX's in the showroom. One was the new Rust colour and the other a dark silver Metallic ( I wish the TSX came in this color ) The cars look a hella alot better than the 04's which were right next to them IMO. Its a much cleaner design and the new 17 inch rims make it look far more agressive. I really didn't notice any diff in the interior except for the seats. The seats in the 05 seemed more supportive and had visible sticthing which looked good.

But here's the kicker. Price on the window stickers on the 05's said "TBD". I see this morning on Acura Canada webpage that price has been set at $33,000 CAD + Freight and PDI which is another $1,050. 04's were going for $31,400 CAD. So there a $1,600 CAD price increase which IMO is way too much.

Same thing came to mind when i was driving home tonite. Can't say the 05 rsx looks any better or worse, it looks marginally different. They need to give it wishbones up front, which will increase the length of the car, mainly the hood, and give it more of a presence on the road.

If Honda does ever go to a Turbo I bet this will be it.

Kind of puts a kink in the 08 TSX coupe plans I would think.

That line caught me off guard, seeing as how it seems to be some sort of general internet concensus that the RSX is toast after the '06 model year. Maybe the new RSX and TSX coupe are one in the same? It would make sense, as the RSX could use to move up a bit to better fit in the Acura lineup. Completely speculation on my part of course.

It would be a great place to show off the Turbo engine though (in addition to the RDX.)

Question TSX Coupe = RSX

Anyone think that it is possible that the new RSX will actually just be the coupe version of the TSX just renamed? Kinda like how the 2-door Camry is the Solara?

I hope they get it right this time. HID headlights, LED tailights, better design, better quality of interior materials.

On a side note, the other day I saw an Integra (the last gen) parked next to an RSX and it was just odd to see the older ITR looking sooo much better than the newer car.

Yep, for a brand that was worried that the previous name of the vehicle (Integra) wasn't in keeping with their luxury image, about all they focused on was image, and not the substance/feautures that denote luxury.

What's wrong with the interior materials? Which car in its class can even compare to RSX's fit, quality and finish?

I got an RSX as a loaner once & I must say, that was the nicest upholstery that I have ever seen in an automobile.

i never liked the RSX, it looks small, looks cheap for a luxury name, and is smaller than the Integra which was cheaper in price than the RSX. i hope they just scrap the name RSX and make it like TSX coupe or TSX C, just like how the G35 shares the name with the sedan and coupe.

The problem is the RSX is in a class that's too low to fit the desired Acura image if Acura wants to compete with Lexus and Infiniti. The RSX is a great car, but it's not luxury or even near-luxury. It should be a Honda, making it an Acura cheapens the Acura brand.

And don't mention the EL...

Thumbs up Wins C&D Cheap Speed

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=6

First Place
Acura RSX Type-S

Here we go again. That same old comparo conundrum. Our underdog victor offers the worst 0-to-60 time (6.4 seconds), the slowest quarter-mile time (14.9 seconds), the skimpiest back seat, and the most lackluster autocross lap.

Go ahead and write letters. We're used to it.

It's not that we're so into the whole stone-shot-from-a-sling Philistine scene. But what makes this car a Goliath beater is that it's an 8100-rev-ripping steroidal slot car on weekends and an intellectually sophisticated upscale six-jewel commuter on weekdays. Plus, when your neighbor asks what car you bought, it sounds way cooler to say Acura than Dodge—another reason why Acura's offerings so firmly hold their resale values.

Acura's recipe is worth copying. The engineers created the lightest and lowest car in this group, then added the highest-revving engine but with the least vibration, which they then mated to a six-speed box that shifts so fluidly that it's like working the Tiptronic levers on a Porsche 911. It feels as if the shift linkage, the throttle, and the short-stroke clutch were magically interconnected and giving one another instantaneous instructions and heartfelt advice.

0509_cheap_acura_rear.jpgIn this quintet, the Acura proved the most neutral in the hills and was the only car whose tail could be rotated with a dash of trail braking, thus avoiding the dreaded plow endemic to everything else in this group. On the skidpad, the RSX beat all comers.

What's more, its trunk is the largest—okay, so it's a hatchback, but it's hard to tell from most angles—and the RSX simply embarrassed the pack with its built-in-Japan fit and finish. The dash is covered in a fetching rubberized grain that resembles expensive fabric, and the standard perforated-leather seats look like those in the tip-of-the-flagpole RL. The tiny, leather-wrapped wheel is just the right thickness and is as gratifying to grasp as a new Rawlings softball. Even the door inserts are swathed in delicate, pale cow skins, lending the cockpit a bright, luxurious feel. Why don't the rest of the cars in this group offer cockpits as airy and fun? Why don't they offer decklid spoilers as subtle and tasteful?

0509_cheap_acura_seats.jpgThe RSX isn't perfect. The seat cushions are a bit too flat and slippery, encouraging butt migration. The suspension feels as if it offers the least travel, occasionally crashing over Michigan potholes. The engine's predilection for revs is so serious—note the astounding 4.77:1 final drive—that the drone can be annoying after a couple hours of freeway slogging. There's still too much wind whirlpooling around the A-pillars. And an RSX driver will be rowing the gears at a rate that would impress even the Andretti family.

Who cares? Around town, the RSX is so agile, so light on its feet, so neatly balanced, so crisp at step-off that we voted it Most Likely to Carve Traffic into Invisibly Thin Slices. Close your eyes, and the RSX Type-S is like driving a Honda S2000. Okay, so maybe you shouldn't close your eyes too long. Just long enough to sign a check for $24,240.

It doesn't have a class. Most of the cars it compete with are non-luxury cars, such as the Eclipse, Celica, etc and while those don't have great interiors, they aren't wearing a so-called luxury badge. That doesn't mean the RSX can't be criticized.

But for the RSX, the interior just doesn't live up to the expectations of an Acura should be. Only recently did they upgrade the leather, the plastic aluminum trimming does not give it a sporty feel; it's overdone and more reminescent of a chef's kitchen. The thin center console does not hide the RSX's humbler beginning as a Civic. The plastic aluminum door release feels flimsy. Sit in the TSX and see how far Acura has gone even with its entry level cars. Simple and elegant.

And fit and finish does not equate with quality of materials, I never said anything about the fit and finish. It's assembled in Japan, I wouldn't expect anything less.
