Just can't see myself in a RLX
With $60K+, I just can't invision myself sitting in a RLX. Even with all its gadgets, IMO it's just doesn't have the look, road presence, sportiness or flare associated with a $60K+ car. I prefer this instead.....
#4083
^ Hate that look. the new E-Class is far better looking.
#4084
If that thing had an 'A' badge in place of that 3-pointed star, and an exclusive V6 spinning the front wheel, instead of what we know(power of the mind) about the drivetrain, would you have said that?
The previous gen. E looked much better than this ugly p.o.s.!

Honda developing new weight-saving joining technology
Honda says improvements in vehicle fuel economy, performance and handling dynamics will all benefit too as door panel weight will be reduced by approximately 17 per cent compared with conventional all-steel door panels.
The technology is to be initially used on North American versions of the all-new Acura RLX (pictured top) – badged as a Honda Legend in Australia – before Honda expands its application into other model lines

To be fair for $60k, you are getting the RLX with advance package. You will need a fully loaded $70k+ E class to barely match the features. There's still no LED headlights at that price....
IMO, the new E Class looks too boxy...the previous one looks way better.

Both the original and MMC version of the W212 are MUCH more appealing to the eyes than the RLX.

Just that Tri-Star emblem on the front end is worth more than any LED headlights.

He'll just show a pic of a 10 year old Euro Accord and say how great it is and how inferior new German designs are.
Predictable is predictable.

In all seriousness, the new E-class dash was state of the art a decade ago. It looks dated and cluttered with all it's switches today. If it was the RLX dash most folks on here would be blasting it. At least the RLX has two center displays which is easier to use than single displays.
No tough screen, heck even a Chrysler 300 has that. And the square analog clock didn't work on the Infiniti so why MB is still trying it is beyond me.
IMO
exterior design 2014 E-class > RLX
interior is design 2014 RLX > E-class

I think it's going to be hard to compare directly between the E Class and RLX. The RLX isn't out yet and I'm not sure if all of its features are listed. With that said, here's how I price out the E350.
Base: $51.9k
Sport Pkg: $0k
Premium Pkg 2: $6.5k
Diamond White Metallic: $1.5k
Natural Beige/Black Leather: $1.6k
19" Wheels: $2.3k
Sunroof: $1.1k
Keyless Go: $0.6k
Driver Assistance Pkg: $3k
Parktronic: $1k
Rear Side Airbags: $0.4k
Total: $70k
Tri-zone climate control, LED headlights, heated rear seats, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, etc are notable things that can be found in the RLX but not in the E class. E Class obviously has features that the RLX doesn't have so I didn't add those features into the above price. If one wants to even things out then I guess those features should also be added (i.e. add rear infotainment system in the E Class to compensate for the lack of heated rear seats for). In that case, then we are looking at $75k for a fully loaded E350 without accessories.
obviously.....if the price is the same and the only difference is tri-star emblem vs LED headlights...lol.

E class is the most devalued car in its class. They are so many in used market that it seems people are abandoning them before leases finishes.
Prices are droping at avg rate of $10k a year. These are asking prices.
first year depreciation is almost $15k on $60k car.
Even the old RL with heavy fuel eficiency penalty will not collapse like that.

Personally, I don't like Mercedes interiors. They dont flow.
That said, I dont like the RLX design either....bulbous.

In the minds of the buying public, it kinda does. For the people who buy an E-class instead of an RL(X), the E is better for them for some reason. The badge, the looks, the features, the ride, something is better for them and they vote with their wallet. You might even have a few people who think "yea, I know the RL(X) is the better car but I'm buying the E because...." and that "because" sways them away from the RL(X). The paper numbers will only go so far in the minds of people when they decide what's better for them.

SSFTSX,
It's hard to have a used car market for the RL when you have no sales.

MB E class sales are great but so are used car lots by even greater percentage.
so irrespective of sales number of RLX i am expecting that it will hold far better than E class. RLX has now fuel economic and greate interior space advantae over RL.
There are just too many E class in used market. and with change in head lights for 2014. expect the used values to further drop.

SSFTSX, how much is Acura paying you to justify their actions?

To a degree it's styling with the design and layout, but when you cheapen out the interior with only one display that's not even touch screen then it's also less features and functionality.

RL production ended eight months ago. There are only 26 unsold RL's left on dealer lots in the entire U.S. So probably another couple months before they are all gone.

there greater number of E class on dealer lots with all kind of colors and combinations and sales man are pushing with agressive deals. there is one or two RL usually per dealer and they are mostly dealer demo. If People know what is better for them so why there are so many E class on used car lots.

He's the annoying fly buzzing around your head. Sure you could pull out the flyswatter and smash him to bits but then what would we all do with the rest of our day?
