Sure bro.

When you see the S in your rearview mirror, it means "get out of the way peasant". When you see the RLX it means, "lol that guy couldn't even afford the Lexus".

You must have a different definition of road presence than me.

IMO, a car with strong road presence should be a head turner. It should make you stop and stare at it. It should make you think "Damn, that's a nice looking car." This in turn should elicit a desire to want that car. That desirability should translate into sales. That is the ultimate goal, right? Otherwise, what's the point?

This brings us to RLX sales. Pathetic. Now look at S class sales. They're more than 10x RLX sales. E class sales? 40x greater.

Does this MMC RLX have road presence? Yes, when compared to the current RLX. But will it make me stop and stare at it? I doubt it. Will it make me think "Damn, that's a nice looking car."? I doubt it. Will it elicit a desire in me to want to buy it? I doubt it.

But if you like it, that's cool. We all have different tastes and opinions.

I don't know man. The RLX MSRP is higher than a Lexus GS lol....that's IMO is the main reason the RLX is flopping hard.

The RLX is supposed to compete with the LS though and with that competition (even with the GS for that matter), the RLX is a steaming pile of dog shit.

Lexus LS MSRP is higher than RLX yet LS outsells RLX by at least 3x

S class MSRP is higher than RLX yet S class outsells RLX by at least 10x

That is because strong road presence do not sell cars... since RLX got the strongest presence, that is why it is not selling.

There are things about it I really like, but it seems to be a lot more jagged looking in the headlights than the TLX, which i think looks a lot better. Everything about the car also just looks kind of big. Big car, big smile, comically big logo.

Well it is Acura's flagship, their largest sedan and to my eyes looks marginally better. Bypassing the crappy ZF 9AT is nothing but win. The dinner plate logo doesn't bother me, Benz does the same thing.

What bothers me is all the extra superfluous chrome bits and lack of adaptive dampers. Oh, and its almost 2018, so there is literally no excuse not to have CarPlay/AA.

^ the thing is.. like you said it is Acura's flagship... while Civic has better tech in some areas than this "flag ship". - digital gauge. Carplay/AA. probably others.

Benz does it because Benz. They have the reputation, presence, and brand cachet to pull it off. It just looks like superfluous bling on an Acura.

It does not matter if we like it or not. Can this translate to sales #... that is all it matters.

No, of course not. If you're not buying an SH, why would you even consider the RLX, amongst the plethora of other cars in the same category? And seeing as they can't produce the SH vehicles fast enough, you bet sales will stay stagnant.

Why is there even a FWD RLX in the first place?

not sure where youre getting that information. RLX was never intended to compete with the LS. GS yes.

I don't understand why Acura is doing this on all their vehicles now. It's like they for the memo that "chrome = luxury" so now they are trying to stick some on wherever they can. Even Buick and cadillac have moved away from chrome and onto satin silver and even matte colors. Besides the chrome being gaudy and cheap looking, the placement is just so ugly as well. It looks like a mustache on the front. Had they left those chrome parts body color, it may have looked way better.

But ignoring all of that, perhaps what sucks the most is that they really didn't do anything at all. Different seats, new paint colors, and mildly updated front and rear facias. Now under normal circumstances this is what a mid cycle refresh is all about, but the pre-lift RLX was just so behind in so many ways that this really was a pointless effort. I am excited to see it in person though because I actually do think it looks WAAAAY better than the last model even with those chrome bits.

Hmm the RLX competes in the GS segment. Acura does not have LS competitor.

Yeah, an LS is equivalent to the S class or 7 series. The RLX is more on par with the E class and 5 series and GS.

again, you have no clue on what it takes to hit 200. This car is lacking 300+ hp to get it to 200.

Sorry, Id still take the Genesis over this ANYDAY!. The Genesis looks better, has more interior room, is the proper drive and undoubtedly be in the shop less. The Genesis has road presence, the RLX not so much. It will still be a bland no one will notice vehicle driving down the road lucky to sell 350-400 units a year vehicle. Now go back to drinking your koolaid in fantasy land with the rest of the fanboys.

I thought:

ILX=IS
TLX=GS
RLX=LS

I know that none of them are at all competitive with any Lexus regardless of intended competition but that's what would make sense to me...

It's more like this:

ILX: A3, CLA, Verano
TLX: A4, C Class, Q50, IS, ES, 3 series, ATS
RLX: A6, 5 series, E Class, Q70, GS, CTS, XTS

that's not even the biggest problem. The transmission gearing simply would not allow the car to go that fast. I'm sure it can't go over 160mph. Maybe a bit higher, but I doubt it.
