I heard this engine now has the new VCM and is much more powerful in the real world. Sort of like how the 8G Accord V6 and 9G Accord V6 both have very similar peak hp, but in the real world, we are talking about 1s faster for both 0-60mph and 1/4 mile.

Looks great! I wish that they had done the jewel eye LED DRL's like on the new TL and MDX, they look fantastic vs the solid line on the new RDX and ILX

It looks like they fixed the two biggest complaints: No rear HVAC vents, and no height adjustment on the passenger seat.

+6hp and +1lbft of torque with +1mpg. Thanks Honda!

The really need to get away from the idiotic dual screen set up and go to the one in the new Pilot. Also, why no SHAWD in this thing?

As I said above, the 8G Accord V6 had 273hp, while the 9G Accord V6 had 278hp.

Other than going from 5AT to 6AT, the newer engine has a new VCM system, and I also believe the new engine gets VTEC at the exhaust side (as opposed to intake only).

The end result is that the 9G Accord V6 is a full second faster from 0-60mph, and the same difference applies to the 1/4 mile, while trapping 6mph higher.

The RDX already has the 6AT, so the difference won't be that big.

Put it this way, the 8G Accord V6 was pulling 210-220whp, while the 9G Accord V6 has pulled 240whp, despite only a 6hp gain on paper.

Ready for Liftoff: 2016 Acura RDX Launching with More Performance, Luxury Appointments and Advanced Safety Technology than Ever Before - Acura News

Ready for Liftoff: 2016 Acura RDX Launching with More Performance, Luxury Appointments and Advanced Safety Technology than Ever Before

Apr 15, 2015 - TORRANCE, Calif.

In a major commitment to advance what is already one of its most successful models, Acura is launching a more powerful, fuel efficient and luxuriously appointed 2016 RDX luxury SUV at dealerships nationwide tomorrow with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $35,270 – an increase of just $175 over the 2015 model, despite the additional performance, features and capability.

Coming off an all-time record sales year in 2014, the refreshed 5-passenger RDX now packs an even stronger punch in the compact luxury SUV class for 2016 with a more powerful 3.5-liter i-VTEC® V-6 engine, ride and handling refinements, an expanded list of available AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, restyled exterior and interior elements and a host of new luxury features and technologies, including standard Jewel Eye™ LED projector headlamps and LED taillights. A new line-topping Advance grade ties the improvements and new features together in one comprehensive package.

"The new RDX is another great example of how we are continuing to advance our Acura lineup with a focus on prestige, performance and dynamic proportion," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of Acura. "With the all-new TLX and upgraded MDX, RDX and ILX all getting a major injection of Acura DNA, we have one of the strongest Acura lineups in a decade."

The 2016 RDX gets an important performance boost courtesy of its new 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology. Peak horsepower and torque output are up to 279 (+6 hp) and 252 lb.-ft. (+1 lb.-ft.), respectively, while sporting a broader torque curve for more immediate and powerful acceleration response—right where it counts. Variable Cylinder Management™ allows for deactivation of three of the engine's six cylinders under light engine loads, helping the more powerful 2016 RDX increase its highway EPA fuel-economy ratings by 1 mpg, rising to 19/28mpg for AWD models and 20/29mpg for FWD models (city/highway).1 Driving refinement is further enhanced by new active front and rear engine mounts, updates to the steering control system and increased suspension mount stiffness. Additionally, the RDX's available all-wheel-drive system – AWD with Intelligent Control – has been tuned for greater rear torque bias to further enhance dynamic stability and all-weather performance.

The 2016 RDX also gets key elements of Acura design DNA with restyled front and rear fascia, including the addition of Acura's signature Jewel Eye™ LED headlights and LED taillights with light-pipe design on all models and a new three-dimensional grille treatment. All models also receive new wheel designs.

Inside, the new RDX gets a freshened look with a high-contrast silver and black trim plus significant upgrades to both standard and available luxury features and technology, including standard heated front seats and new second-row air-conditioning vents. The RDX with Technology Package adds a new 8-way adjustable power passenger's front seat (4-way power in base models), Acura's intuitive dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Information Display (ODMD), HD Radio®, blind spot information (BSI), Multi-view Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.

A new line-topping Advance Package for the 2016 RDX features unique machined alloy wheels (18" x 7.5") with painted gray inserts and adds rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, Bi-Directional Keyless remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver's side mirror and the full suite of AcuraWatch™ advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Both the Technology and Advance packages can be equipped with the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™. All RDX models with AcuraWatch™ also get a new 4.2-inch full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with expanded, customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation prompts (when equipped with navigation).

While offered as standard equipment on the new Advance Package, all RDX models can now be equipped with the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ and Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning, along with the Expanded View driver's side mirror.

In addition to the available AcuraWatch™ technologies, the 2016 RDX offers enhanced crash safety design with numerous changes to its Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that further improve frontal collision performance. The 2016 RDX targets top-in-class safety ratings – a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The RDX continues to be produced at the company's East Liberty, Ohio, plant, using domestic and globally sourced parts. In January, Acura marked the sale of its two-millionth North American-made vehicle in America. Last year, approximately 94 percent of all Acura models sold in America were made in the company's plants in Ohio and Alabama.

Parlaying a very successful refreshed 2016 model, the 2017 Acura RDX returns with 2 new colors, a new exterior/interior color combination and no increase in price

Mar 9, 2016 - TORRANCE, Calif.

Coming off an all-time annual sales record last year, the 2017 Acura RDX goes on sale tomorrow with incredible momentum and a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP)1 starting at $35,370 – unchanged from the current model. The 2017 RDX is offered by the luxury marque that KBB.com named as the luxury brand with the lowest projected 5-year cost of ownership and that Edmunds.com voted as the 2015 Best Retained Value® Luxury Brand. The upgraded 2016 Acura RDX earned a 2016 Consumer Guide® Automotive Best Buy Award in the Premium Compact Crossover/SUV segment and Edmunds.com 2015 Best Retained Value® model-level award.

Significantly refreshed for the 2016 model year, the 2017 RDX retains the upgrades made last year, including a more powerful and fuel-efficient 3.5-liter i-VTEC® V-6 engine, ride and handling refinements, an expanded list of available AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, restyled exterior and interior elements, and an increased compliment of luxury features and technologies, including Acura's signature Jewel Eye™ LED projector headlamps and LED taillights. New for 2017 are 2 exterior colors, Lunar Silver Metallic (replacing Slate Silver Metallic) and Modern Steel Metallic (replacing Graphite Luster Metallic), and for the 1st time, the Ebony interior is available with the popular White Diamond Pearl exterior.

The 2017 RDX interior has a premium black trim plus standard luxury features including heated front seats, 2nd-row air conditioning vents, a power tailgate and Multi-View Rearview Camera. The 2017 RDX with Technology Package has numerous upgrades including a high-contrast silver and black trim, an 8-way power-operated front passenger seat, Acura's dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Information Display (ODMD), HD Radio®, blind spot information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor and Multi-View rearview camera with dynamic guidelines.

The range-topping RDX with Advance Package features a grade-exclusive machined alloy wheel with grey painted surfaces along with a host of added luxury features including rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, and an auto-dimming driver's side mirror, along with standard AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies.

While offered as standard equipment on the new Advance Package, all 2017 RDX models can be equipped with the AcuraWatch™ suite of technologies that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning. In addition to available AcuraWatch™, the RDX includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that enhances frontal collision performance. The 2016 RDX received top-in-class safety ratings – a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), when equipped with the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ – ratings that are expected to carry over to the 2017 model.

All 2017 RDX models with AcuraWatch™, which includes all Advance Package models, also get a 4.2-inch, full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation prompts (when equipped with navigation).

View, build and price a 2017 Acura MDX at acura.com/RDXLanding.aspx.

Engine & Powertrain
Providing exceptional power and fuel efficiency performance, the 2017 RDX's 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) has a peak output of 279 horsepower at 6,200 and 252lb.-ft. of torque at 4,900 rpm. The powerplant's broad torque curve delivers immediate and powerful acceleration response across the engine's full operating range.

The engine's Variable Cylinder Management™ cylinder deactivation system allows for deactivation of 3 of the engine's 6 cylinders under light engine loads, helping the RDX earn EPA fuel-economy ratings of 19/27/22 mpg (city/highway/combined) for AWD models and 20/28/23 mpg for FWD models. The 2017 RDX complies with EPA TIER 2 – BIN 5 and CARB LEV II ULEV emissions standards.

Body & Chassis
The RDX utilizes high-strength steel for 56 percent of the body construction, which not only provides increased strength at a lower weight but also results in a stiffer body for improved dynamic performance and reduced NVH.

The RDX rides on 4-wheel independent suspension with a MacPherson strut design in front and a multi-link design in back. Amplitude Reactive Dampers at all 4 corners and motion adaptive electronic power steering system further aid sporty handling and refined driving performance.

All RDX models except the Advance Package feature split 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels. The RDX with Advance Package gets a machined 18-inch aluminum alloy wheel with painted grey surfaces. All RDX models have 4-wheel disc brakes that include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

Interior
The 2017 RDX comfortably accommodates 5 passengers. In front, its "dual personal" cockpit design caters to the driver and front passenger, creating a personal and accommodating space for each. Its available leather seating surfaces (leatherette in base models) and ergonomically designed seat contours provide ample support during spirited drives or long road trips. The power actuated driver seat is 10-way adjustable for a custom fit. For the driver, there is a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED backlit gauges with progressive illumination and a Multi-Information Display (MID) that allows access to multiple electronic functions. The Advance package as well as all base and Technology Package models equipped with AcuraWatch™ feature a 4.2-inch, full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation prompts (when equipped with navigation, standard on Technology and Advance packages).

Among the advanced electronic technologies in the 2017 RDX is a 360-watt audio system with 7 speakers, a CD player, AM/FM radio, XM® Radio with Note function, Bluetooth® Audio, USB port and AUX jack connectivity, and Speed Volume Control.

The transformability of the RDX for passenger and cargo hauling is accomplished with the aid of "1 touch" activation of the 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks offering easy configuration of the 76.9 cubic feet of storage rear cargo area (with rear seatbacks folded down)3. Interior storage compartments include a large center console between the front seats and there are numerous other storage pockets and cubby spaces throughout the RDX. The RDX has a total EPA passenger volume of 103.5 cubic feet.

With the Technology Package, the interior includes a high-contrast silver and black design plus a host of driver relevant features, including AcuraLink® Satellite Communication System, Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, and AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™. Additional standard features include an 8-way adjustable power passenger's front seat, Acura's intuitive dual-screen On-Demand Multi-Information Display (ODMD), HD Radio®, blind spot information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Multi-view Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines. The navigation system also makes use of an 8-inch W-VGA color screen that is also used for a new rear view camera system.

The RDX with Technology Package also includes the Acura/ELS Surround® 10-speaker, 410-watt premium audio system with CD, DTS™, AM/FM radio, XM® Radio, and Bluetooth® Audio. Also part of the Technology Package is a GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone automatic climate control system.

The line-topping Advance Package delivers even higher levels of luxury comfort, convenience and technology, adding rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver's side mirror, and AcuraWatch™ as standard equipment.

Safety
The RDX offers the AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies as a standalone option on the base RDX and RDX with Technology Package and as standard equipment on the new RDX with Advance Package. AcuraWatch™ technologies are as follows:
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS)
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
The 2017 RDX with Technology or Advance packages adds blind spot information and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, further enhancing the driver's situational awareness.

In the event of a collision, the RDX's advanced, energy-absorbing body structure, supplemental restraint systems (seatbelts and airbags) and strategically designed interior components are all designed to mitigate the potential for injury.

The RDX utilizes Acura's acclaimed Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure – a network of connected structural elements to help distribute and direct crash energy in a range of frontal collision scenarios, including offset and oblique impacts. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash. The RDX features additional engineering elements in the front body, roof and side pillar areas that further improve frontal collision and roof crush resistance performance.

The passive safety technologies of the RDX includes 6 airbags including dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS), dual-chamber front seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the front and outboard rear seating positions. Safety features continue with 3-point seatbelts for all seating positions, while the driver and front passenger have front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system with load limiters. The RDX offers head restraints for all seating positions. The rear seat features Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH), which permits easy attachment of up to 2 child seats in the outboard seating positions.

Nice to change the face, but the body doesn't fit the face. The face is aggressive, but the body lines just aren't.

#Caught this yesterday, apparently everyone could care less about it. I'm guessing the only person who cares about it is @hondaprojason. #Spied #Spyshot #Spyshots #Honda #Acura #CUV #CRV

His post needs more # tags too.

#RDX would have been a good one.

I liked the seven spoke wheels on my 1G TSX, and I thought the 3G TL-S and RX-S wheels were good looking, too.

Could be the replacement for my 1st gen RDX!

Ideally this would have the new 3.0T engine but not too optimistic on that end.

2.0T 10AT from the Accord on premium fuel tune with SH-AWD wouldn't be bad.

You think they'll put SH-AWD back?

SH-AWD is a glaring omission with the 2G RDX. Hopefully, it's glare picked up on by Honda Corporate.

Talking about "glaring omission". Even the base model of the Acura flagship model RLX doesn't have any AWD, let alone the comparatively-lowly RDX.

Yea, I think so. The way I see is it is that, the 1g RLX, the 4g TLX, the 1g ILX, the 2g RDX, were all designed and built under the Smart Luxury theme. Since then, Jon Ikeda became the VP and GM of Acura in 2015 and he gradually started talking about focusing more on performance and sporty designs. The precision concept and precision cockpit concept showed the general direction they are going.

It doesn't make sense for Ikeda to have much, if any influence, on the aforementioned models since those models were already designed and in production when he took charge. What makes sense is that he would have much more influence on the next generation Acura models, namely the upcoming RDX. As such, I wouldn't worry too much about what the RLX has now, or doesn't have. That's a car that's DOA. That's a car that came out in 2013.

We will see in 2 weeks what direction Acura is going when the RDX prototype comes out. The teaser video looks pretty promising. With the focus on performance, I think SH-AWD is a real possibility.

Also has just a single exhaust. Indicative of a I4... 2.0T?

Last pic shows dual pipes. Might just be the angle on the other one.

Looks better than the current one imho. Panorama roof at last.

How is that indicative of an I4? The CRV has a 1.6T and also has dual exhausts. But on the topic of exhausts, those look like the real deal to me, like they aren’t fake cutouts. .

I'm guessing 260ish horsepower and 280ish torque with SH-AWD 2.4L i4 w/turbo 8 speed DCT

Design is bold, sporty and def looks premium...just look at that steering wheel!

Nice to see Acura positioning the RDX back as a sporty car similar to the 1st gen (dual exposed exhaust)

The 2nd gen RDX was a total POS, boring and bland; 2nd gen refresh was a step in the right direction.

I'm excited to see what Acura will be rolling out for the 6th gen TLX and 4th gen MDX

Well, I was wrong in the first place, but, I don't think you'd see a V6 with a single exhaust. Not for at least a decade, from Honda now. But again, I was wrong, I admit it

Perhaps what I like most about this is that Acura was selling the 2G RDX really well and honestly they could have made very minor tweaks and added a couple small things and it still would have sold decently. But no, they went with a whole new layout that they’ve never done before, just the fact they returned SH-AWD (when honestly they didn’t need to at all) is a massive sign that they are taking it seriously. In terms of the powertrain it really depends on the transmission. The new 10AT can only handle 275lb/ft max so it’s a huge bottle neck in terms of power possibilities.

That is plenty of torque for the RDX. Plus, Acura doesnt give two squirts about the modding or aftermarket game.

Looking at some of the camo photos and the photos MSZ posted, I'm pretty sure this was the vehicle I saw in my town. I tried to take a few quick photos zoomed in. but here are the best ones I took.

Overall, I like it. It's got a really nice profile and it's got a premium look to it.

The only thing that's bugging me (more than the grille) is this

Acura: RDX News-g08lbqn.png

It looks awkward.
