I dont have a doubt in my mind the next NSX will be a bargain compared to its performance...think about driving a ferrari and getting your butt kicked by a honda/acura...

According to Autoweek.nl, the NSX is rumored to be a DB9 fighter...

Isn't the DB9 more of a GT cruiser than an all out sports car

I am thinking a 5L, 580HP/350TQish V10, carbon fiber/aluminum everything for a curb weight around 3100 lb. Considering the launch advantage SH-AWD would give the new NSX, it should beat a stock Z06 in a straight line, around a track, you name it.

Now, the Chevy boys will always be able to throw some Ligenfelter stuff on for massive power gains, while the new NSX will be pretty much maxed out from the factory.

It's not like Honda wants to steal market share from the LSx crowd anyway. The NSX is a halo car, and sales volume doesn't mean much. Besides, all the kids that grew up modding Civics are starting to make big money in corporage America now, and by 2010 they will want to spend it on their dream car.

Yea because the C6 can turn well The C6 Z06 will mop this car up in every perfomance test unless Honda pulls something out of their sleeves.

Acura doesn't even concider the RL to be the flagship.

Everything I've seen seems to indicate this. Note the 2006 auto show full-line brochures. Much talk and photos on the first pages about RL technology.

There's a difference between a flagship sedan and a halo car.
Nissan's flagship is the Maxima, but the halo "company car" is the Z.
At their Infiniti division, the Q45 is the flagship, but it's the G35 Coupe that brings in all the attention.

Check out the first page of RL's brochure(I have the 05 one.). RL is considered to be their flagship, while NSX is their "exotic" supercar.

I remember reading somewhere Acura didn't use the word flagship to describe the RL, they used another word...

So is it the flag ship or do they just concider it to be one. Isn't there a difference?

OK, I had to dig it out of dust just to answer your question.

This is what the last sentence looks like in the introduction:

"The 2005 RL rightfully takes its place as the luxury flagship in our lineup."

seriously. The DB9 is supposed to be the "sophisticated man's" supercar.

The NSX should be the "young and successful", "i appreciate excellent engineering", and/or "im middle-aged, but dont give a fuck because I can drive better than you" supercar.

Not that a DB9 is trash, but I think Honda/Acura should aim higher....and they can do it too.

wow are you full of ....

C6 is an awesome car for the money. But it is RWD, how many hp??, and will have traction issues,..etc.

Now if the ol' aluminum body V6 can spank lambos etc on a track and beat some ferraris in a straight line...,

Then a carbon fiber aluminum block V10(turbo?) SH-AWD will kick a C6 in the ass...but that is stock for stock(and NSX would be waaaay more expensive now)

TO each his own about the price vs power thing.

I don't know where to start. Pickup a book or a magazine and learn something. The old NSX doesn't beat any of the cars your listed. The NSX couldn't even match the last gen C5.

i think he may be talking about track racing. Also, if Top Gear wasn't out for true blood in their review of the C6, the NSX did beat the C5 and 911 in a straight line. The only car that beat it was the TVR Cebera (sp?)

Maybe when you started 1st grade but it is 2006. The Lambos and the F430 with equal drivers will wipe the track with an NSX as would the Z06. Bottom line Honda will have to come strong with the next NSX, everyone else has had 15+ years of refinement to their cars, the NSX when new trumped the 348 rather handily, BUT don't forget the 348 was probably the worst MR Ferrari ever built. For the NSX or Lexus/Infiniti "super car" entrants to be anything but a niche within the niche they will have to DESTROY Porsche/Lambo/AM and Ferrari, since most of these sell significantly for their iconic status, not on pure performance. My bet is it will be 20 or more years before Japan grabs any significant share of the "super car" market. The GTR and NSX have iconic status for a small part of the car enthusiast community, but I don't see them reaching Ferrariesqe status any time soon, when the NSX has a four YEAR waiting list for the OLD car when the new car is announced they will have arrived.

Even if he is talking about road racing, his statement is wrong. There is no way a C6 will lose to a NSX if the driver is alive. NSX's are a little bit slower than a C5, which is obviously slower than a C6. NSX's are all they are cracked out to be. I've seen them on the track before and they aren't as impressive as everyone on the internet makes them out to be.

If you consider Porsche dollar for dollar with the NSX the 997S would literally destroy an NSX in a straight line. Also factor in the non-drag racing background of the UK folks! I am pretty sure the C5 and the 997 non-S in the hands of a decent 1/4er would have a fairly easy time with the NSX.

I however have always been impressed by the NSX, the little track time I have had in 2 I came away impressed, just needed somw brake work and say 120 more HP and they would be track warriors.

Well to be objective, it is after all a 15 year old car. Most cars now have a 5-6 year life cycle, so the NSX is pretty much 2 generations behind everything else. Even with the all aluminum body, the last gen Corvette was like 100 lbs lighter than the NSX. That's how far behind it is.

Back when it first came out, it was years ahead of other cars, but eventually the other companies caught up with the NSX and passed it even farther.

I think it would be better if Honda just built the car to be ahead or on par with the comp for 5 years rather than investing so much money into the car, trying to make it look good or trying to make it last till 2020 cause with that approach it will end up like the current car with nothing really mentioned about it once other models move past it.

I also think Honda is going to have their hands full making the car really stand out like it did in the early 90's since there really are a lot of powerful cars on the market now for under 100k.

keep it mid-engine

oh, and although 500 HP is nice, out of a V10 it just won't do. At least 600 HP if Acura wants to sell this in my opinion. Also, don't come out with 2 engine options, it just brings down the "wow" factor of the supercar version.

The illustration is nice but is it based on any sort of information? It looks like the artist took the lights and grille from the Sports4 concept and pulled the rest out of his ass. Looks nice though, very V8-Vantageish.

If it's light enough, 500HP is fine. However, with AWD, I am not sure how light it can be. Maybe 3000 pounds tops?

Ditch the AWD, and put the engine mid-ship.
