this thing would be cool IF they kept all the little bluish lights foglifhts and what looks to be 10000k headlights.

I'm sick of the ho-hum styling of Acura now, the headlight shape is plain which dates back to the 6th gen US Accord for crying out loud.

I dunno wish Acura took a chance and styled something out of the ordinary or loud like when the Fx was first introduced, something you haven't seen before. You know what I mean?

They should style it look different than the RDX, to create a separation. Looks like they got lazy and copied a lot of the same styling.

Looks like every other lux SUV from the side, rear is decent, front is ...overdone, a little over the top.

I think that the styling is almost there. It's the grille that's overdone, so if they tone that down, it'll be a winner.

If the RDX is any indication, the front will not be as aggressive as is seen here.

That's sad if that is true phile.

Too bad the guys at TOV won't ask questions like "What has happened to Acura styling just like the MDX, it looks like a Murano/FX/Audi clone at certain angles", "Can you explain the RL diasaster" and "I thought Honda/Acura used to lead the pack and not follow other carmakers designs" to both Dick Culver & John Mendel, the top execs at Honda/Acura.

Not to be off-topic, but I just saw the next gen Element on TOV and it looks like they copied the Scion X-b. Weak I'm telling you weak. Honda and Acura aren't as innovative anymore

OFF TOPIC >>Umm, if you're talking about the SC, that's an evolution of the current version. Where's the xB copy?

rl is a disaster in sales, but the car itself is a fine vehicle. people are just ignorant to it since it's a 50k honda. how do you suggest them fix it? offer a v8?
full painted panels on the element = copying the xb. once again
now back to your regularly scheduled MDX thread

Honda/Acura still innovates...see Civic and TL...as for the RL, RDX, & MDX....poor designs.

I think the MDX concept is pretty hot.... I know that they will tone down the front grille with the production model, so I am not worrying about this over-aggressive grille here. I like this much more than the RDX, though I need to really see both in person to judge.

Anyway, it's a big leap forward from the current MDX which has really bland and boring styling. This one is, at least, more lux and more passionate looking!

The only distinctive part is the front end. If thats toned down, combined with the profile and rear that look like an rdx, it will be nothing more than a large rdx.

Think the mdx will carry this grill as its main styling point.

I think Mini-me is cooler than Dr. Evil from which he was cloned.

Does this mean the RDX will be cooler than the MDX?

As a serious potential MDX owner in another year, I'm a wee bit underwhelmed, but I realize that things may improve a bit with the production version. Besides, I really did not like the TSX styling when it first came out and when I test drove it but began to and now really appreciate the simple yet elegant/sporty styling. I hope the MDX does the same with me. Otherwise, we'll likely end up with a new Sequioa or a Denali

There are a lot of lines that don't carry through in the pictures, especially in the hood area. It looked very aggressive. There are two gill slits in the hood, like it was some sort of performance car. The long overhang is due to the exagerated pointy front (like the CL concept), but otherwise it looked almost the same size as a current MDX that was parked near to the concept. The only noticeable difference might be the wheelbase. I couldn't gauge its width vs. the current MDX. And when did the MDX get that ugly wood on the inside?

It's very vanilla. I wish the design excited me, but it doesn't.

Even if it's plain vanilla the sad part is this new MDX will sell cause of the current MDX's sales success.

Lexus re-invented the SUV with the RX300....even today, everyone is still copying elements of their design. As for Acura, this new MDX is not a revolution in SUV design...and barely an evolution from the original MDX design. Acura's latest designs (except for the TL) are way to conservative. Acura refuses to learn from their past.

the problem is when they try something not conservative, everybody gives them crap for it. like i said before, acura can't satisfy everyone. people will always find things to bitch about. conservative to me means handsome and understated. the RL looks good with a nice set of rims.

I don't think this is the case at all...when have they been REALLY not conservative? I would say as of late, the Element and ridgeline would be the most recent non-conservative Honda. Previously, NSX and S2000...and I don't see anybody giving them crap for those cars.

but take the new Civic lineup...very un-Honda like and they've been getting rave reviews and rewards.

Same with the TL...the styling is more 'bold' than any other Honda/Acura sedan of late and look at the sales success.

They seem to get MORE bitching and whining when they ARE conservative, and only moderate amounts of B&W when they aren't...but they also get more raves when they aren't conservative also.

It's pretty clear to me which way they should lean.

Are you kidding? The NSX, TL, S2000, New Civic, Ridgeline, Insight, Element....etc are all evidence of "agressive" designing and engineering. Honda/Acura has received great reviews for these products. As for the RL it's vanilla, and thus received vanilla reviews and poor sales. Rims do not make a car great.

Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, Audi are all making innovative designs.
Acura is failing comapred to the above...and has been for a while...and will continue to if they do not take risks.

I actually think the RL is very nicely styled and just need better rims and a few minor details to jazz it up a bit.

It looks great in person, but terrible in pictures.

I remember the concept RL with the 20" (?) rims. That thing looked great in pictures, but when the production version came out, the 17" rims makes it look boring.

They probably could've stayed with the 17" rims but made it a little more stylish, but I think they should've gone with at least stylish 18" or 19" rims. Even the 18" A-spec rims are pretty boring compared to the standard and optional rims in this segment.

As for poor sales, i htink that's a result of MANY different factors that have been discussed many times before.

The interior looks good and totally different than today's Acura cars. The front grill looks like a big risk. It looks a lot like the concept they showed which was ugly IMO with respect to the front grill.

The interior looks pretty nice...is that real black wood or bowling-ball tirm from the cl-s?

Is that a keyhole? What happened to intelligent key?

The interior looks real nice! Lots of buttons!

The exterior looks like the same profile as the Highlander. I like it!

Hard to tell from that angle, but the key hole looks pretty recessed in there, which could be an indication that there was the "knob" for the keyless ignition there, but they have removed it for the moment while doing the testing.

Overall, I like the exterior design. Seems clean and simple without too much fuss. Also looks a little "sportier" than the current MDX.

Center stack seems a little busy with all the buttons and markings, but the overall shape looks decent.

Can't wait to see more pictures as it gets closer to release.

The center does look very busy. It seems the top portion (under the navi screen) is for climate control buttons surrounding a radio/climate display, then radio presets, then there is another set of buttons between two knobs, then what looks like the CD changer, then more buttons, then the control knob with shortcut buttons surrounding it.

What are all the "unknown" buttons for? or is that just to throw off the spies?

Shape and wheels look highlander-ish. The grille may be the boldest part of the design if they kept it close to the concept.

That interior is very nice. It does look like they're finally using real wood in the MDX, but you never know with Honda/Acura.
