Only a couple people like me would drive an MDX like that but it is good to know that it handles and sounds great when you push it. That's something I always liked about Honda/Acura cars, so it's nice to see it in their SUV.

The current gen MDX was also tuned at Nurburgring...good to see Acura is still going with that direction!

BTW, this thing sounds really good...and it sounds different than the current J series IMO.

I've driven my old 09 that way but not my 12....yet.

I love the way that 3G sounds. Makes my 12 sound wimpy.

I just hope they don't ditch the SH-AWD. That's a decent differentiator in my book.

Wifey's '08 Tech only has 35k on the odo and just slapped some new Michelins on. Waiting around to check out the new MDX or possibly a GL450.

I just returned my '12 MDX Tech loaner that I had for about four days.

I loved the new navi and stereo and really liked the new 6AT. I just felt the steering was a little to light/numb but the SH-AWD was just amazing, especially in wet weather.

Honestly, both the wife and feel that the AWD system in out old 05 Murano was better in wet (and snowy) weather than our 09 base/12 Tech. But when it comes to the dynamics of performance, the MDX beats it hands down.

I won't be surprised if they ditch the mechanical SH-AWD system and go with the sport hybrid SH-AWD system.....

In the video posted by TSX69, does the wheelbase look to be stretched a little longer than the current generation?

The 2nd row windows look wider but I could just be seeing things.

I felt the same way after we traded in my wife's '05 CRV w/ RT-AWD. Didn't take me long to realize it was simply the difference in tire width. Downsize and strap on winter rubber and it's virtually the same.

Truthfully, you have to be driving at greater than 7/10ths to "feel" the SH-AWD and how often are you stomping the grocery getter like that?

Arrow Detroit

Acura announced today that it will unveil a prototype of the next-generation MDX luxury sport utility vehicle during the press days of the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), held in Detroit over January 14-15. Utilizing "Aero Sculpture" design language affecting both form and function, the 2014 MDX Prototype will feature alluring proportions with smooth, arching body lines matched to an efficient architecture.

The press conference will be broadcast live at www.acurawebcast.com. Media information, high-resolution images and video of the 2014 MDX Prototype will be available at www.acuranews.com immediately following the press conference.

Then again being the owner of a 12 MDX tech, I'm a bit biased.

My particular wish list would be 30 lb-ft more torque (courtesy of IMA), fuel economy in the low 20s (baseline), panorama roof glass and an intelligent key system.

I dont like the current MDX tbh, its not that big or roomy, and needs more power imo.

I just wish it was closer to the Buick Enclave/Chevy Traverse in size.

I'm not familiar with the Traverse, but i know the Enclave is pretty spacious as far interior room goes. Are you thinking the new MDX will be smaller? I think to compete with the JX, Acura was forced to offer a more spacious cabin, which i'm all for, but thats just me.

Only apologists call it "hate".

My observation is true: The drawing for the concept looks nothing like the camo vehicle on the road.

There is no dispute in that.

I agree with you, but doesn't that hold true for most concepts?

I like the MDX's proportions, though. the new JX and the Buick Enclave, while more spacious, have that long wheelbase look, it comes off a little minivan-ish.

I think whats in question is the order in which these things came out. Cocepts/renderings should have been the first to leak, but with so many leaks of the spy/camo shots floating around, why even bother with the a rendering that looks nothing like the spy/camo shots?

Just seems backwards....

I agree and i hate that minivan look, but i think to stay relevant, they need to make that 3rd row more useful and not just a bench back there.

I know i'm probably in the minority here, but personally, I wish they made the dimensions comparbale to the Merc GL! Very spacious 3rd row and still very "non-minivanish" looking! But not a monster like the suburban!

I was going to post that earlier. When I drove both the Enclave and Traverse at a GM event, both felt minivanish....which the 2G MDX can never be accused of.

Point taken on TiggaMan's post. If anything, the MDX maybe should go slightly upmarket to become a bit more like the MB GL....cause it definitely doesn't need to be a premium minivan a la Enclave and JX.

But the spy pics have nothing to do with the marketing rollout of the new MDX.

I would understand your point if Acura leaked the spy pics themselves. But the spy pics weren't part of their plans (as far as I know), so they are moving along with their projected plan of action. Concept pic > prototype at auto show > final product.

Agreed on the marketing strategy, but circumstances change and things don't always go according to plan. Why throw funding towards something that really isn't going to help the cause? I'm sure acura was well aware of the leaks. I just think sticking to that strategy is just wasted resources. Anyways, just my

Like many of you, i'm looking forward to see this thing in real life!
