The only things I don't like about the exterior are (and they're minor things too):

- The openings in the lower front bumper where I think the fogs will go. Openings seem a little big. And that silver trim. Or are they LED lights.. a la Audi/MB?

- The openings in the lower rear bumper. Dual exhaust? Reflectors like on the TSX? Again, that silver trim....

- Though not too bad, the stubby rear end. The TSX looks more balanced.

But overall and based on exterior alone, I'd take this over the current TSX.

Now let's see that interior. Please don't mess that up.

^^is that silver trim or a strip of LEDs?

Also, I've always thought the TSX got too big with the 2nd gen. So I think this is a good move.

now if they can carve out something like the ILX from the same platform as the Civic, then why does the Civic have to look so goofy?

Hard to tell. I'm leaning toward LED's in the front a la Audi/MB.

Maybe Sly can tell us since he's there.

EDIT....

Based on this pic of RDX(?), looks to be silver trim

from what I can see, it's LEDs on the top part, and as it rounds the corner, it becomes chrome.

If they are going for fuel economy, those wheels aren't staying. They aren't staying 19s at least, not with the sales leader being the one with 2.0 liter engine.

Come to think of it, that goes for performance too...

My impressions, it looks good. It sounds like it will have decent amenities. However, it's wholly underpowered to be considered a competitor to BMW, MB, Audi or Lexus. I do think it will be a sales winner because of its look and lower price point. It will compete with those looking at Mini Coopers, VW Passats, Mazda 3s or Milleniums, Audi hatchbacks and other upscale type cars that aren't considred luxury.

I would buy it if it were just based on looks. It looks like a hybrid of an IS, GS and Audi. However, that anemic engine is a non-starter. Maybe they'll get the 5G TL or 3G RL design right. If so, things will get interesting for Acura.

Overall, I like the proportions of the design. However, what are the chances Acura keeps the wheel package of the concept? Time after time, I see great looking concepts only to be disappointed when car companies put smaller and uninspiring wheels on the production car.

I agree about it not being a direct competitors for Audi, BMW, etc.

However, I'm hoping its more of a successor to the 4-door Integra, which was also based on the Civic platform.

Hoping that it has that sort of feel, at least in terms of driving, while keeping the 'luxury' going.

I really like the greenhouse; the rear window panel is a mix of the IS and Optima.

The rear is nice too, esp. the taillights, altho they are very Audi-esque, but we've seen that on the MDX and RDX.

Still don't like the "beak" but it's been toned down enough where I could live w/ it (the shape of the headlights are alright, could've been better).

Overall, a pretty good design effort from Acura (much better than what I had been expecting); kinda makes you wonder what happened w/ the current gen cycle of products and what happened w/ the new Civic.

I think the design is good enough that it will steal some sales from the RWD sedans, esp. if Acura prices it right (I'd take this design over the new 3er and the C Class, as well as the IS).

W/ a few tweaks it can even be better.

problem is not content. How much contend Honda can give in USDM Accord with 2.4 EX-L Navigation. ($29K car) If it is expenves by 10% than USDM accord. it will give 10% more content at most. Like Pushbutton start/HID/Bit of chrome. but you lose the comfy ride of Double wishbone suspension and long wheel base.
EuroAccord is different thing. The front lights (Executive models) and thicker glass add couple of grand. They are simply not creating EuroAccord with more content but alot cheaper car from the start. This thing will not have Japanese paint quality.

Based on the little information that we know about the ILX, I think I'd still prefer my TSX.

The ILX is based off the Civic platform. Even if it's a totally different car, it should be approx. the same size as the Civic.... too small for me.

And the Accord/TL size is too big.

The TSX size is in-between and perfect.

Size Comparisons (smallest to largest):

Honda Civic Sedan
Length: 177.3 in
Width: 69.0 in
Height: 56.5 in
Wheelbase: 105.1

Acura ILX
Length: ?
Width: ?
Height: ?
Wheelbase: ?

Lexus IS
Length: 180.3 in
Width: 70.9 in
Height: 55.7 in
Wheelbase: 107.5

Acura TSX
Length: 185.6
Width: 72.4
Height: 56.6
Wheelbase: 106.5

Acura TL
Length: 194.0
Width: 74.0
Height: 109.3
Wheelbase: 57.2

Honda Accord Sedan
Length: 194.9
Width: 72.7
Height: 58.1
Wheelbase: 110.2

Nope, no interior pics yet, car is still in concept/prototype phase from what I have heard. In fact the interior of the ILX I saw wasn't even complete, heck I couldn't make out what was inside of it.

I'm visiting the area again tomorrow but I'm going to be really short on time so I need to sneak in as many pics as I can.

As far as the LED's on the ILX, they appear on the horizontal portion and disappear as the trim goes vertical. I'll snag more pics of it tomorrow.

When I spoke with a couple of the Acura personnel I already mentioned this concern. Hopefully we will see these wheels on the production model, but we can only hope since it is a concept/prototype, but I have relayed the concern and I will keep relaying the message.

I see your point. But to me (and I believe many others) the Acura name never achieved premium status. Semi-premium seems to fit better IMO. If you ask people to name a Japanese luxury car brand, they'd probably say Lexus or Infiniti before Acura. If anything I believe the ILX shows that Acura has given up on running toe to toe with those two and other luxury marque's. As a matter of fact I think they're still having an identity crisis as to what they want to be recognized as. Just my

^ I think they addressed that in today's press conference, I'll paraphrase what the guy said before he introduced the new RDX

"Hi I'm from Acura. We don't care what the industry thinks is a good idea, we're pretty much gonna do whatever the fuck we want. Thanks guys. Oh hey look some cars"

I think it depends on where you think Audi and BMW are going- it might go toe to toe very well with the A3 sedan, A/B Class, and 1-Series if it has more standard equipment, little performance sacrifice, and a built in $2000 price advantage compared with the Germans.

It's hard to evaluate the ILX without the context of its competition, which we haven't seen yet. I'm reserving judgment until I see an A3 sedan and a B-Class.

I like the looks, and I'm sure Acura can get the interior right. What I don't like is... why are they still using that 5-speed auto? Their 6-speed has been out for a while now, and the competition has been using 6 and 7 speed auto/dual clutch transmissions for years. If a balance of fuel economy and performance is what they want, the extra gear ratio would surely help.

The 6 speed is only used on the J series V6 engines though. Frankly I'm surprised they're not using one of their new CVT designs on the 2.0 motor.

Looks like it, but I wonder what is keeping them from throwing it on the I4 as well. They're both transverse engines and it certainly wouldn't be a power limitation considering the TL makes more than 300 horsepower compared to 200.

It's probably too heavy and over-built for 4 cylinder duty.

I think that's a reasonable explanation. Still, I think they would do well to have a six-speed auto for the smaller engines too.

proportions are great. nothing major to criticize here.

25k, it will sell well. i feel like many people that get into TSXs to begin with are extending their budget a few thousand to get into a higher tiered japanese car (acura)....this ILX should do quite well.

infiniti should do the same. the G25 still leaves room to play for a smaller sedan at a lesser price point.
