That engine is dead. And a terrible match for a CVT.

Not sure which 2.0L it will be (The CSX has a 155HP version) but you bet your ass it won't have more than 170HP. This way they can market the 2.4 as the 'performance' version with a blistering 202HP.

Hmmm, no wonder the IS was mentioned when Honda was talking about the the new entry level Acura some time ago.

i really like the look, and I am sure the ride will be fine, just wish they could blow a little air in to those small engines.

Why that is so similar it's scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...but I'll give Lexus the nod on the front end.....RWD = no massive front overhang

I still for the life of me have no idea why Acura has to have a pointed front end.

Ok, it was kinda cool 12 years ago...but come on now.

Not sure on the 2.0 and 2.4 engine choices for the ILX though.

The current Accord has a 2.4 (177 HP or 190 HP) and 3.5 (271 HP).

Is the ILX going to be better value than a EX-L or EX-L V6?

Let's see what the new 2013 Accord will bring tomorrow.

I actually like the ILX. It looks good. I wonder how much its going to weigh.

I see the 2.4 being lifted from the Si, so figure 201hp at least.

I don't think there's any question the ILX with the 2.4 will have at least 201HP. What does the Accord matter in that respect? The Si already has 201 from the 2.4?

Now what it should have is another story. A minimum of 225 would be far more appropriate IMO.

I hate to sound really negative, but that ILX is a pretty shameless "me too" version of the Lexus IS. To make matters worse, I believe a new generation of the IS is due out in the next year or so, right? So, as it stands right now, Acura appears to be copying the 5 year old look of a fierce competitor's car that is about to be redesigned. Oh boy.

I think it looks great. Just hoping that they'll have a bit more power on the the 2.4 than the 201 powerplant. Especially considering the tsx is going away, a 225 hp car would be great. I just hope it weighs under 3100 lbs.

if this starts at 25k, I think they'll have a real winner in terms of sales.

"new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive™)"

They keep working at the nomenclature, they will have a S*H*I*T system pretty soon.

So to get this right, the NSX will have a SHSH-AWD system?

Agreed, I can actually say that the grill actually looks pretty good on these latest prototypes. It looks like their making that large chrome area smaller, and moving it down a bit, closer to the center, where the old "wings" around the calipers used to be.

Yes, it's a very quiet AWD system.....very, very quiet.

I don't dislike it, I just don't understand how this is supposed to save Acura's brand. I've read multiple times in statements from the company that the new RL and ISX are supposed to shake things up and make Acura interesting again.

I just don't see how this ISX is going to make people who aren't excited about Acuras... excited about Acuras.

In a way...it does.

They built a VERY cheap low market product under the Acura brand label.

aka: The Acura Civic.

People will drawn in to the Acura brand because of the cheap cost of an Acura brand vehicle.

They won't be brought in by desire or excitement, but rather by the low entry price for the Acura badge.

One of the errors many of us think Acura made was not having an entry level model after the RSX was discontinued. The TSX was frankly a bit expensive for that, especially considering that the TSX V6 overlapped with the 4G TL FWD. Having a low-end model brings youngsters to the brand, who hopefully (as I did) buy their way up the Acura food chain. Pretty standard stuff in the automotive industry. I say the ILX is a good move, as long as the other cars further up the food chain are strong. There is NO way the ILX will step on the TL in any form like the TSX did.

As for me...the only cars in the recent Acura food chain I haven't owned are the TSX and NSX.

Of course, a pertinent question will be how the redesigned Civic and FMC Accord play into this. I understand the distinction that it has more luxury, but how well will it differentiate from those 2 in terms of powerplant interests me.

With the ILX being built in the US, Acura can offer a lot of content in the $25k - $33k range. It'll sell better than the TSX, allowing the TL to be "its own car" rather than competing with the TSX. The next issue is bumping the RL upmarket. These moves reduce overlap.

Look closely at the ILX....therein you will find "clues" to the "new civic".

yep, then they can casually play out the lifespan of the TSX and TL and introduce the "TLX" (joint replacement) as their next big announcement a few years down the line, then theyll be back to a 3 sedan lineup, albeit a crisper one

I understand that Acura is lacking in a true range of products offered.

I guess my point was more to the tune of - it seems like Acura is taking a "If we build it they will come" attitude with this car. It doesn't seem like they are really trying to offer something new and exciting that will make people turn their heads and say "THAT is an ACURA?"

If they are worried about their brand perception as a whole then their solution can't be just as simple as making their market offerings more clear.

Like I said, I like it, I just don't see the general public looking at this and seeing something new from Acura.

Its a barely premium car priced over 25K

I think the expectations need to be lowered a bit, not every new Acura is going to revolutionize the automotive world. This one will sell well and make money for Honda.

You're right, and maybe I expected too much.

I'll note, though, the only reason I expected a lot was because of the tone of desperation I got from Acura's press statements.

Sheesh...

I was implying that the remade Civic and the FMC Accord may play into how well these are sold. Its akin to the conundrum the TSX and TL had with it being based on an Accord. The TSX more so, as it was a Euro Accord. I remember for the same price of a TSX, you could get a v6 accord.

But c'mon, we all know its based on a Civic. The question is, how much of these cars will cannibalize sales amongst each other due to their apparent similarities in content and yes, platform.

No word yet about the TSX. Since the ILX is some time out, it's hard to say what will happen with the TSX.

My long-term hopeful guess is that Acura will finally answer our calls and push the RL into the uber flagship market to rival the LS, A8 and 7 series, TL moves upmarket to compete with the M, A6 and 5 series directly. TSX stays exactly where it is with the ILX staying exactly where it is. I would go far as to say the ILX could compete with the A3 and the TSX to compete with the A4 and 3-series.

I think both the RDX and ILX have this same intent. Not to set the automotive industry alight, but to sell volumes.

I think the fact that these are US based products also is an important development for Acura.

Hopefully more info will follow on weight and actual engine output numbers. While I dont think this car is going to save Acura by any means, it should at least get people in the door if they can say it starts at $24,995.

There's no shortage of great cars out there right now and the manufacturers really need to bring their A-game to the table. While we cry for a performance version of the ILX here on these boards, they would really only account for a small percentage of actual sales. Good looks, "premium-ish" brand name, fuel economy, and price are the factors that the average joe looks for.

Do I hope this car does well for Acura? -absolutely. Will it? Who knows?
