Source Acura

Acura Automobile Division provided a glimpse into the future at the NorthAmerican International Auto Show today, with the world debut of a futuristic Acura Sports Coupe concept car code named CL-X.
Acura is giving the public an advance look at what will ultimately become a new-made- in America Acura model. 'The CL-X is more than just a styling exercise,' said Rich Thomas, Acura executive vice president. 'The overall styling theme of the CL-X concept car will actually be utilized in an exciting new Acura model that will be designed, engineered and manufactured here in the USA.'

The CL-X concept car was designed exclusively in the USA by a special project team at Honda R&D North America's Los Angeles design studio.

Based on a 'Neo-Classic' design theme, the Acura concept car integrates futuristic styling with classic luxury sports coupe design. The exterior utilizes a strong center character line to compliment a sculpted wedge design.

The high-fashion interior features specially contoured seating for each occupant and accentuates the driver-oriented aspect of the sports coupe by featuring wrap-around instrumentation and center console with a special command center for interior functions.

Designed on a 106.9-inch wheelbase and 63.2-inch tread width, the CL-X also features special carbon fiber and aluminum composite wheels, 18' front and 19' rear, to enhance styling while improving cornering capabilities.

Keeping with Acura's luxury image, the CL-X features a full compliment of luxury amenities, convenience features and safety appointments.

The CL-X concept car is just one of several new Acura vehicles to be introduced during the coming months. 'Acura's future is very bright,' according to Thomas. 'During the next 18 months, we will introduce several exciting new models which will ensure Acura's position as the number-one luxury import nameplate in the country.'

Yep, that's the first gen cl concept circa 1995.... The 1st gen CL was the first acura to be designed, engineered and manufactured here in the USA.

Wow... that's over 10 years ago...

I wish I could go back in time and tell Honda that their auto trannies are going to suck. And while I'm at it pick up a lotto ticket.

That TLX looks like shit, especially the headlights. Glad the production didn't look like that, but it is still boring.

The CL actually did end up looking a lot like the concept.

The production CL looks a lot like the CL-X concept, but a lot less exagerated.

Am I speaking Chinese???

I think the TL-X concept looked a little better than the production model. The headlights were slightly difference, and I liked the lower air dam in the front fascia that obviously was tamed down for the production. And I do like the integrated tailpipes.

The CL-X concept, though, is hideous. I can't believe the first gen CL evolved from that. I see some cues between the two, but thank God the production CL didn't look like it.

and honestly, I wouldnt've been able to stomach the concept for long - its exotic-looking, but would have gotten old quick...

I dont think the concept looks that bad... Just when I saw it it looked alot like the 2nd Gen CL...

And my roommate got the CSX and CLX confused at the dealership and the dealership said it was a concept car...

And he thought the CLX was coming out soon...but I told him he was stupid cause it was an old ass concept...

The grill is exactly the same. The lines in the hood, center and sides, are on the CL, but less pronounced. The greenhouse is the same shape, but less bulbous. The rear, side window is the same shape. The side skirts, although moulded on the concept, have the same flare towards the rear (less exagerated). And look at the seam on the sides that join the bumper to the fender (next to the headlight)...same.

What I can't understand is...why the hell did they make this concept and come out with a car that's SO based of the LAST GEN ACCORD????? Concept usually means new design, not last gen shit...

well, it has been 10 days since someone last commented on it, and it probably would have died and faded in the past with all of our other old threads had you not brought it back TTT
