It doesn't look bad. However, if this thing ever comes to the US it will have a ridiculously under-powered drive train, ie sub 200 hp 4 cylinder goat.

It Looks Like the Acura CDX Could be Headed to North America

By Sam McEachern Dec 12, 2017

Acura pulled the wraps off of the CDX subcompact crossover at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show.

The tiny city runabout, which shares a platform with the Honda CH-R, is sold in China only and is built locally at the automaker’s Zengcheng Plant in Guangdong, China. Earlier this year, Acura expressed an interest in shipping the China-only CDX to North America, with Jon Ikeda, group vice president for Acura US, telling Wards Auto the brand was studying consumer interest and market trends before making a decision.

“It’s a model that interests a lot of our people, so we have our R&D guys looking into the possibility,” he said.

It seems as though Acura is now laying the groundwork for the CDX’s eventual arrival in the United States and Canada. The Truth About Cars contributor
recently dug up a patent filing for the CDX’s design that was awarded to Acura by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on December 12th, 2017. While patent filings don’t serve as concrete evidence of anything, it’s compelling to see Acura expressing such an interest in the CDX.

There’s 1 very good reason why Acura should and most likely will sell the CDX here: Lexus. The rival Japanese premium brand said earlier this year it will eventually introduce a subcompact crossover in North America called the UX, which will slot beneath the NX in the automaker’s lineup and serve as its new entry-level crossover. The UX’s styling was also previewed with a wild-looking concept vehicle of the same name 1st shown at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. We doubt Honda will let Toyota enter that segment without a little bit of friendly competition.
Discuss this story on our Acura forum.

Honda renews trademark for Acura CDX compact crossover

HR-V-based SUV with the same name doubled Acura sales in China when it was introduced

Jan 31st 2018 at 12:11PM
Honda recently renewed its U.S. trademark for the name "CDX," which the Japanese carmaker 1st applied for in 2015. Back then, observers expected the name to apply to an Acura version of the Honda HR-V, and they were right — but no 1 expected the CDX would go on sale only in China, in 2016.

For the past 2 years, the U.S. auto media has speculated on whether the CDX will ever make it here.

"(We) have our R&D guys looking into the possibility,"
group VP of Acura U.S. Jon Ikeda told Wards Auto last April about the CDX. However, he went on to note that it's not as simple as just shipping it over due to regulation differences between China and the United States. The trademark application doesn't mean a green light, but it shows Honda's at least leaving the door open to the prospect.

The Chinese-market CDX is a
Honda HR-V after a wardrobe change. The only engine option is the 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder from the Civic, CR-V, and Accord, with 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet (our HR-V uses a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder with 141 hp and 127 lb-ft). The only transmission offered is an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Drivetrains can be had in front- or all-wheel drive.

We wonder how much longer Honda can sit on the sidelines. The CDX doubled
Acura's sales in China in 1 year. Acura sells more crossovers than sedans in the United States, and in the past 2 years that the CDX has been on sale in China, the compact crossover segment here has got more crowded and more popular. The Cadillac XT4 is imminent, and we could see the new Lexus UX compact crossover at the Geneva Motor Show. Really, an American-market Acura CDX can't come soon enough.

Cdx

When will (if ever) the CDX, which is based on the Honda HR-V and Acura has been selling in China, be available in the US? Several of the car magazines have mentioned it, but I can't seem to get anyone from Acura to confirm. With the 2019 RDX be larger than its predecessor, the CDX might be a good fit for our second vehicle, a small luxury SUV.

I think it’s safe to assume it’s coming here, but for right now we hav zero info from Afura on them bringing it here. I do think they should have brought it over already and replaced the ILX with it.

Question Sport Hybrid Version

??Acura CDX??? ??????SUV?? ????

Pretty good looking and the interior is quite nice. The i-MMD system from the Accord Hybrid is plenty powerful for a subcompact CUV with 212hp and 232lbft of torque.

The contour of the rear hatch looks a little weird, but that's so nit-picky. Like Tell said: Acura needs to get this the hell over here.

I checked the numbers on the new RDX and the CDX:

Wheelbase: RDX (108.3) CDX (104.7) - difference 3.7 inches

Length: RDX (186.9) CDX (177.0) - difference 9.9 inches

Height: RDX (65.7) CDX (63.6) - difference 2.1 inches

Width: RDX (estimated 74.5) CDX (73.2) - difference 1.3 inches

So the CDX isn't much smaller than the RDX, but it's almost 10 inches shorter.

Put the 2.0 turbo in there and Acura would have a winner.

Looks like the CDX with the 2.0 turbo and SH-AWD would be a BMW X1 killer:

Wheelbase: X1 (105.1) CDX (104.7) - difference 0.4 inches

Length: X1 (175.4) CDX (177.0) - difference 1.6 inches

Height: X1 (62.9) CDX (63.6) - difference 0.7 inches

Width: X1 (71.9) CDX (73.2) - difference 0.7 inches

HP/Torque: X1 (228/258) CDX (272/280)

Since everything Acura is doing with the brand right now is based on performance, I completely expect them to put the 2.0 in the CDX. The fact that they aren't talking about the CDX yet is a signal to me that they will and don't want to kill sales of the RDX being released next month.

Acura won't give the regular CDX the same engine as the RDX. Doesn't make sense if Acura wants to differentiate the line up. It will get the 1.5T just like in China. If Acura offers a performance variant (doubt it), then sure. But the regular CDX? No.

CDX = 1.5T
RDX = 2.0T
MDX = V6 turbo (3.0T?)

This makes sense, but I could imagine them doing 2.0 for both. The 2.0T in Audi's lineup appears across multiple models of various sizes.

Maybe, but apart from the CTR & Accord, do they have a 3rd option currently? I guess it's not that hard to spin up a 3rd tune for the engine. Accord tune for the RDX & a lower tun for the CDX.

If anything, I could see the base 2.0T in the RDX be the "Type S" 2.0T in the CDX.

But- the CDX first needs to come to North America. I'm floored it's not here. I bet they would sell 4 CDXs for every ILX they sell. it would be super easy for Acura to get whatever power they want out of the 2.0T. As mentioned, yes, a different tune. But also, they can change a few mechanical bits to separate the two. Either way... I think that would be the least of their concerns.

Acura CDX gets a “sported-up” A-Spec version in China

FavoritesPrint page
09-06-2020 10:40
The facelifted 2021 Acura CDX will hit the market in China later this month. Just as the company announced last fall, it will be getting a special version called A-Spec, which will lend it a sportier appearance – and little else.

The CDX A-Spec boasts a new front bumper, a different rear diffuser, black trim parts instead of chrome ones, round exhaust tips instead of trapezoid ones, 18-inch wheels, special edition badges, and the “Red” paint option (the first time for China). The cabin trim also sports a special color combination and includes all the options available for the model.

The gasoline version of the Acura CDX comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo-4engine good for 182 hp (135 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque, mated to an eight-speed DCT. The CDX Sport Hybrid relies on its i-MMD System, which incorporates a 2-liter naturally aspirated engine, a single electric motor and an E-CVT box. Its peak output amounts to 215 hp (160 kW).
