"If you wish to experience value for money in the compact class, you won't be able to ignore the new Golf VI", gushes Hans-Jürgen Abt. The managing director of the world's biggest customiser of vehicles in the Volkswagen Group is very taken by the new version of the Wolfsburg "evergreen": "The new Golf is an outstanding basis for our designers and technicians - and they've already succeeded in creating five awe-inspiring predecessor series." For the ABT Golf VI, the Kempten company developed a sporty visual package perfectly geared to ABT's increases in performance and vehicle components.

„Our Golf shows that driving fun and ecological points of view do not exclude each other," said Hans-Jürgen Abt, and highlighted the 1.4 TSI, which is available in two stages of expansion: the standard 122 HP (90 kW) become 160 PS (118 kW), and the more powerful version produces a proud 200 HP (147 kW) for the road instead of only 160 HP (118 kW). The "little" direct injection engine therefore produces almost as much as the next bigger series aggregate, the 2.0 TSI, but uses less fuel. "The magic word here is "downsizing", Hans-Jürgen Abt explained. However, for extremely power-starved fans the Allgäu company is also offering a power package for the 2.0 FSI: 210 HP (154 kW) will then become 240 PS (176 kW). The economically sensible alternative for regular drivers is the 2.0 TDI, which ABT Sportsline has given a powerful 170 HP/125 kW (standard: 140 HP/103 kW). In order for the power to be perfectly put into practice, ABT springs or the sporty ABT threaded suspension are recommended. ABT braking systems and ABT sports braking systems provide performance-related deceleration.

But a real ABT does not just have to drive racily, but also look like it. For the Golf VI the designers developed a body kit that gives the hit model a dynamic and at the same time elegant look: front grill and apron make the car look more present, while the sidebars also make the ground look closer than it is. At the back, the rear spoiler and rear apron attachment, in which the slanted 4-pipe exhaust is integrated, become the central elements. 18 or 19-inch AR and BR rims round off the appearance. Of course, the elegant wheels are also available in combination with the matching sport tyres. One thing is certain: with the new ABT components, the Golf VI rolls stylishly into the spotlight. The newbie is a real highlight, because this is the sixth time that the ABT's have produced a Volkswagen for individualists.

300 hp (221 kW) are quite something: The new ABT Golf VII GTI sets a standard for compact cars. It has very convincing characteristics indeed: its top speed is 258 km/h and it reaches 100 kph in 5.8 seconds. At the Essen Motor Show 2013, the Bavarian-tuned GTI will be seen in a very special version: the design masterpiece looks like the prince of darkness: lovingly styled right down to the last detail is the ABT Dark Edition. The decorative set with the striking lettering on the C-pillar, the trunk lid attachment or at the headrests are part of the overall concept of technology and design. And the ABT Golf VII GTI Dark Edition looks quite assertive for a reason. “After all, the GTI has always been part of the family. We have always teased out the best performance from all its generations,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The ABT Sportsline CEO points out that it is traditional to combine roadworthiness and fun.

And fun needs good looks. The dark taillights, mirror caps and headlight covers are typical of the ABT Sportsline design and part of its consistent overall concept. This also comprises side skirts, front spoiler and front skirt, the trunk lid attachment and a rear skirt set with a four-pipe chromed black exhaust system. And the sporty and light ABT CR alloy wheel with its five dynamic pairs of spokes fits the ABT Golf VII GTI Dark Edition’s unusual character perfectly, particularly if ordered in 20 inches and with 235/30 R20 high-performance tires.

To turn the black ABT into the dark side of the force and get it going as it is able to do, ABT Sportsline has given this “über-Golf“ new sport stabilisers and above all the intelligent ABT height adjustable suspension kit. This will make taking bends quite an experience, especially serpentines. The ABT GTI Dark Edition is the compact dream car, a really traditional winner.

With a maximum drive speed of more than 300 kph, golf is one of the fastest ball sports ever. If you want a similarly fast “Golf car”, you have to go no further than ABT Sportsline. The Golf VII R, with a respectable “handicap” to begin with, after a visit to the “Bavarian Driving Range“ features 400 hp / 294 kW, one third up from its serial 300 hp / 221 kW. “To top our previous uprating to 370 hp, we have not only optimised the ABT Engine Control software but also installed a sport-type catalytic converter,“ says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt. Both the ABT Power and the new, strong ABT Power S kit are based upon the specially developed “New Generation” ABT control unit, which guarantees maximum power and utmost dependability. This has been proven on our own dynamometer and on public roads.

All you need now is the right driver and outfit. The ABT-tuned Golf VII R, a real “pro”, features high-quality attachment parts, which much distinguish it from the serial version, e.g. a painted ABT front grille and the right headlight covers. Mighty side skirts signal other drivers that a fast car is approaching. An ABT height adjustable suspension kit will make the car always maintain its lane, even at high speeds. However, when you want to show others this Golf’s nice rear, do it in a “fair way”.

The ABT tail gate add-on is also worth a closer look. But even more impressive are possibly the four mighty exhaust pipes of a diameter of 101mm, which is roughly the size of a golf hole. These are part of the ABT exhaust system, which comes with a pre-silencer and axle back exhaust and makes for a good uprating and sound. And you can also choose from a number of ABT Sportsline alloy wheels and complete sets of wheels with tyres from 18 to 20 inches. Moreover, the rim designs ER-C, DR and CR are available in various finishes.
