XM Satellite Radio

I was the proud recipient of an XM satellite radio on Christmas morning, and I'm curious if anyone else has installed a unit in their TL.

I have the Sony radio that can be moved from car to house, so it plugs into the tape player and power outlet. The unit comes with everything you need to mount it on the dash, but I was reluctant to drill holes in my precious TL. Also, I'm concerned about security, and a dash install would leave it pretty well exposed.

Instead I chose to velcro the unit to the right side of the console, right next to the factory audio system. This allows me to easily take the unit with me when I'm parked. I've run the power and audio cables under the console to the necessary connections.

The antenna that came with the Sony was a magnetic mount, but I wanted something more permanent so I wouldn't have to remove it everytime I get the car washed. I bought a Terk antenna that mounted on the trunk with an adhesive tape. The antenna wire runs into the trunk, through the ski opening, under the back seat, under the floor mat and under the center console to the receiver.

The side mount of the radio isn't ideal, since it leaves the text display sideways, but it's the best I could come up with that offers the ability to remove, while also allow maximum disguising of the wires for aesthetic purposes.

Has anyone else installed XM?

By the way, the sound of XM is awesome!

Thanks,
Paul

Sony sells a separate kit for your home system for $199. It contains a "shell" that maintains the connections to your amp, and also includes the antenna. You simply remove the satellite receiver from the car shell and pop it into the home shell.

Eh, I'm not interested in paying $10 a month for music while I drive, so I'm definitely going to pass on XM. That's $120 a year!
