XM Radio installation and purchase

I'm hearing all this talk about XM Satellite radio? So what's the big hype about it? is it really that good, and is the quality that amazing? if so, I would be interested in installing one in my 3.2TL Type S, I would also want to know the easiest unit to purchase and install, would it be the tape adapter one? or should I buy a whole separate unit? any suggestions are always appreciated.

Question

I think you need to pay a monthly fee to subscribe. Is that true?

Yes it is $9.95 per month.

Using the tape adapter sucks.

Using the RF modulation through FM also sucks.

The only way to go is with the Blitzsafe.

Do a search and you'll get more information. This is the wrong message board section anyway for this topic.

I have everything except the Blitzsafe (my system was installed before that came available). Works great. Do a search in the Audio and Electronics part of the forum to look up my setup. FTM-1 and Swampgas have a similar setup to mine, and Swampgas posted pix.

Happy searching!

Awesome Baby

Its great. I have the blitzsafe adapter and it sounds incredible. I had the remote (whatever you call the part where you change the channels) mounted in my sunglass holder. I would also recomment the tek 3 antenna (is about 1/2 inch thick). Mine is mounted between my windshield and sunroof.

I pay by the month, by automatic credit card payment, not by a single yearly payment. I think that whoever you spoke to gave you false information, unless XM's policy has changed since my install 1 year ago.

is this thing available in canada? and what is so special about satellite radio? is it CD quality? or is it just that you can get virtually every radio station?

can someone take a picture of their system and post it here so I can get a feel for what it looks like.

thanks, I would really appreciate it.

Anyone interested in XM should check out xmfan.com--good source of information and very knowledgeable users.

I have the blitzsafe setup and it performs flawlessly.

Well, XM is not available in Canada. But if you have any relatives who live in the states, you can have order the system online and use their address to sign up. I was just in the T.O. area and it works great up there. Great sound and FEW TO NO COMMERCIALS!! (That itself is worth the US$9.95/mo!!)

XM is not liscened to do business in Canada.

Wow..it's been a whole year since I posted those pics.

Anyway, search this board for "xm install pics" and you'll probably be able to dig up my pictures. If you use the Blitzsafe rather than the FM modulator, just plug it into the multi port on the other side of the deck rather than messing with the antenna.

The question is...will the new 2004 TL or MDX have stock XM, or will I have to post an updated install pics thread later this year when I get the new car?

EDIT:
I'm feeling helpful today so I found it for you:

http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=42693

Wow...I posted that on 6/27 last year. Whew, time flies.

The new TL will have the XM stock plus many more. Don't foreget the 5.1 DVD connector and some other things.

does anyone in Toronto know if there is a place I can take my TL-S to and have them install all the stuff I need for this Satellite Radio? It looks way too trivial for me to put it in myself.

And also I need someone to setup the monthly fees so I can pay monthly and have the thing function.

lemme know

thanks
