I have a monster cable cassette adapter for my iPod, it too sucks. Hardwiring is the only way to go. Crutchfield makes line in adaptors for many brands of head units that plug into the cd changer port.

I am in a rental (my baby was rear-ended) so I'm using an FM adapter for my XM Roady in the interim. IT SUCKS!!!!!! Don't do it.
