What size fuse?

I have rated 1080 watts RMS in my total system. The amp install kit came with a 10amp fuse (do NOT get your amp install kit at Walmart... had to replace almost everything it came with). This fuse, of course, blew this morning.

What size fuse is appropriate for the main battery fuse? I would rather blow fuses than risk burning anything up. I will never use all my watts so I don't need to be able to reach max output. My amps were both cool when the fuse went so I don't think there is a problem.

I stepped it up to 20 amp and bought a 30 while I was there. I have read that I should use a 60 amp fuse. What are ya'll running what is a safe fuse to run with? I just realized I can simply add the value for each amp requirement... Still, I may as well post the question.

thanks much

p.s. I replaced the walmart wire with 4 awg lightning audio and the dist block with a street wires block. I still have to replace the 8awg ground with 4 awg but had no terminals and wanted to hear it. I will also install a fuse before each amp rated acording to the manuals.

well, i read the manual... a highly recommended activity. The sub amp requires a 100amp fuse (and has one onboard) and the other amp requires a 30 amp fuse.

I plan to install the appropriate in front of each amplifier and then up my battery fuse to 100 amp.

Sorry for asking a stupid question but I have learned enough on this forum to think it valuable to post it.

thanks anyway
