What guage should i use for my amp???

i have a alpine v12 100m 250watt amp. i'm trying to power an alpine type r 1000watt 12inch sub. the amp is 150watt 100 watt for total of 250. i'm only using the 150watt side to power the sub. i got 10 guage wires but the guy at the shop said i should get 8 guage. should i get it?

definaty use 8 gauge in wireing the higher the numbr the thinner he wire . so if yo have 10 guage its probably (.......) that thick well 8 guage is ( ..............) that thick and that means more strands of metal conducting the electricity.
