want more bass for your TSX?? check this out
i love my TSX, but i've always wanted more bass for my car. i didn't want to add a subwoofer box in the trunk be i need the trunk space for my son's stroller; which takes up all the trunk space. i did some searching on the internet and i found the KENWOOD SUBWOOFERS 6X9 KFC-WDA69RC. it is a 6x9 subwoofer system that is a direct replacement for TSX's 6x9 in the back. this Kenwood system is not available in the US so i went on Ebay and bought it. it came with 2 6x9 woofers, an amp with bass remote control, and all the required wirings for the installation. i love this system!!!!!! it sound almost as good as my brother's 12" sub box in his RSX. because there are alot more bass then before, the back panel kind of rattle a little bit when the bass hits.

Neat. Great option for those who don't want a traditional sub setup. Those stock 6x9s are worthless, and you've already got a low switched signal going to the rear 6x9s... so its kinda like why not.

I've been wanting to try it out, but never got around too it. i'm not sure if it is too deep for some cars though

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
What are the two wires for? The remote? It would seem that once you set it up, you wouldn't need to touch it again and just fine tune via the HU, no?

I just looked at the PE page for the Tang Band speakers, and they are 8 ohms. Output is going to be half of what you'd get from most 4ohm speakers.
I've read about CDT before.. looking at their site now, I don't see 6x9s. Anyway, do you not find them able to go loud enough?
I have the Avincar setup, and the rears are quite loud. I can fade slightly to the rear if they are just not loud enough and I need much more obnoxious bass. While they don't go as low as a true sub, they go low enough for me (and lower than most normal speakers, I 'd guess). It works well with the stock amp, at least.

I'm not into very loud bass, but more concerned with the overall tonal balance, and I think these CDT 6x9's do fairly well with the stock amp. They're a hair quieter than the stock 6x9 but the bass is deeper and cleaner. I think they will perform very well with an external amp.
However I'm quite satisfied with them. Along with the lower end DLS components I've put in the front . I can recommend the CDT's to anyone who wants cleaner and deeper bass, but I HIGHLY recommned the DLS speakers.. their slogan describes it best.... 'super natural sound'

Free air 6x9's...
Supraken,
Those CDT 6x9's fit without any issues? I've been looking for a solution like this rather than having my old trusty BassLink take up half the trunk...but I didn't find much in the way of 6x9 subs out there. I'm a bit against the Kenwoods because I don't want to run more wires, but this CDT setup sounds intriguing. If you fade to the rear, does that help with the volume differential to the front?
Also, if you could let me know a bit more detail about what you did with the front speakers, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking to improve the sound significantly without adding an amp, if possible...I'd also like everything to remain stock looking and avoid running any wire if I can.
Any input is much appreciated!
Os.

Anyone know anything about these?
Still looking into this whole idea of 6x9 subs...it seems like they are quite accustomed to this in Europe, as there are lots of models. This one seemed interesting, with a slightly lower range than some of the others:
Genesis Profile 6x9 Subwoofer (8 Ohm)
* 100W RMS
* Grills Included
* Sensitivity: 89dB - 1w/1m
* Freq response: 35Hz – 500Hz +/- 4dB
* 150W Peak
* 8 Ohm Single Voice Coil
* Made In EU
Link:
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...rtno=GENP69018
Seem to require a little more power than the stock amp would be able to put out, I think...and I'm not too sure about the 8 ohm thing...but whatever.
Does ANYbody have any ideas on how to get better bass without adding an amp? Or should I just bit the bullet and install my Infinity BassLink II?
Thanks!

^^^Just by replacing the stock speakers with any $40 pair of 6x9's from best buy will give you alittle more bass and stop the farting sound. The problem with getting more bumps from the stock 6x9 spaces is the addition of rattles from the bass. i read about 1 guy putting 8"s in the back deck and then he took them out because of all the rattles.
The weak link is the back deck.

Good point...
Well, that is a good point about the rattles...then again, I've never owned a car with this many rattles and noises (even more than my old t-top Camaro in the 80's), so I guess I will just have to live with it (and a better sounding system would help).
I suspect that a cheap set of 6x9's is just not going to 'do it' for me. My concern with doing just the Kenwood (or other brand) 6x9 subs, with or without changing the other speakers, is that I'll wind up with a system with 'holes' in the frequency response range.
A lot of people have talked about the Alpine S speakers...they're cheap enough (on eBay) that I could give those a whirl (coupled with the subs) and if I hate them just re-sell and do something else.
The big bummer is that you can't trust Circuit City or Best Buy on ANYthing remotely like this...and all the 'specialists' try to get you to do a whole ground-up system.
Maybe I should have just bought a TL instead!

I seem to find that a lot of the rattle comes from the 3rd brake light housing and the the torsion bars in the trunk. I put a small piece of felt in the brake light and that quieted down that rattle, but I can't seem to defeat the torsion bars. Has anyone found a way?

I crammed a small piece of dynamat under the unused brake light, and that seemed to do it for me. (That light does seem to be kind of loose-fitting.) I don't notice any more rattles from the rear deck. I'd cram a small piece of dynamat whereever necessary. Maybe with a large sub, a more substantial amount could be used.... worth a try, anyways.
And I had an '80's Firebird, and the TSX is much better assembled. Although, some TSX owners have complained about rattles (mostly '04 owners?), but I haven't noticed anything too annoying. Certainly not enough to go back to the 'bird! The other day I had a rattle, and it turns out that the passenger seatbelt was dangling funny such that the buckle tapped the plastic; easily solved.

Infiniti BassLink
Well, I installed my old Infiniti BassLink to get a little more bass...I just finished so haven't done much testing (sounds a bit boomy, and there seems to be a gap in the midbass, but I know it will be entirely different when the car is in motion). I'll post my results after some testing and a bit more tuning.
Basically, I got the Metra speaker adapters and ran the wires (disconnected the 6x9's and tapped right into their plugs) into the speaker level inputs on the BassLink (a nice feature). There is no need for a remote turn-on line as the BassLink can turn on automatically from speaker level inputs (1-2 second delay after the head unit turns on).
Obviously, this isn't necessarily an ideal alternative for everyone...I already had the BassLink just sitting around from an old car. If this doesn't balance with the rest of the system, I will probably wind up getting the Kenwood 6x9 subs (or maybe Tang Band or CDT's, as they are quite a bit cheaper) and upgrading the rest of the speakers (I have my eye on the JL XR650's).
I really don't want to get involved in adding amps and dealing with all the wiring and noise issues that entails, but I spend a LOT of time in my car and sound quality (not volume) is of paramount importance to me...when you drive 25k miles a year, you want your car system to be as close to your home system as possible.
Anyway...I'll post my 'review' of the BassLink after more experience with it.

you said that you used the "the Avincar setup" what is that? I have an 06' TSX and I notice that the rears get pretty distorted when turned up and especially when the windows are down. The wind must mess with the rear speakers.

http://www.avincar.com/ Try searching here, there's a lot of info. online. The vendor login ID is Elduderino. Although, some people have posted that recently, they have not been able to contact him, so maybe this isn't an option right now.
Too bad, if so, because the 6x9s are great. They WILL distort if you put real bass heavy music on and crank it up. After all, the stock amp only has so much umph, and amping these 6x9s isn't a good option according to Elduderino. So if you want really loud bass with 6x9s, I'd stick with the "6x9 sub and amp" approach. One of the "features" of these speakers is that Elduderino chose them because they worked well with the stock amp., for those of us not wanting to go the amp route. (Been there done that. )
You could probably get similar quality from other 6x9 speakers, but I'm sure there's a lot of junk out there too (probably moreso). Look for other recommendations, and good luck!
With windows down, I don't think it's the wind so much as the change in pressure and/or needing to crank it up more to hear it.
