subwoofer box
hey guys, im not that knowledgeable about car audio stuff so i was just wondering... I have 2 12" alpine R's hooked up with 8 gauge wiring to a 1.0 farad cap. They hit but not as hard as i'd like, i was wondering if it could be the box they're in. It doesn't have a portal in it and it is just a generic angled box. I have the stock headunit for a 97 cl and my amp is in my signature. I'm going to eventually get alpine r's for the inside speakers and tweeters and the alpine touch screen head unit...when i get the money. I was wondering if the box with a portal would make a big difference

are you using the sub channel on that 5 channel amp for the subs? if so, you need way more power..... a ported box will be louder, but you still need more power for those subs.....

Yes, we all know your situation since we don't even know how big your sealed box is...
If you ever get the chance to run wires again, run 4 gauge instead of 8 gauge. You're maxing out with the 8 gauge and its probably limiting your power while at it.

Gsteg does have a point there. I remeber i first ran my system w/ 8 guage and noticed the sub seemed to be holding back. Definately heard the difference when i replaced it with 4 guage.

the products they sell seem to be really low quality, i don't think i'd trust their boxes. I think another site that makes boxes is edesignaudio.com give that a shot

if you have the room-its huge- get one of these: http://www.proboxrocks.com/superbass/212SPB.shtml we put type r's in them regularly and they hammer!!!! you need at least 500 watts actual power. if your speakers are dual 2 ohm, the alpine 605 mono amp is a good choice
