Subs question

What 12" subs out there are really worth the money to buy, about 200-400 per sub?

I must admit, I'm impressed with the SQ, and output capacity of the Type R Alpine. It's in the $200 range. I recently listened to a Diamond Audio, top of the line, 12" that sounded very good that would be toward the top of the budget. Both prefer sealed enclosures, and wouldn't take up a lot of space.

you can buy them retail at bestbuy for roughly 200, but you can find it much cheaper online, especially ebay.

They're talking about the alpine type R, which can be had for ~100$. It's a SPL woofer, I never found that they sound good at all, but for what you pay, they get loud, easily. IIRC... ported for a single 12" type R is 2.25cu ft @ 33hz. 1cu ft sealed. Give the thing 1000w clean RMS and it will shine. Remember, it's a SPL woofer. Don't expect it to be super precise. it will get loud though.

You have a BD1000A1.... and you're running a Type-R? You could be powering major cities or welding massive buildings with that thing. WTF?

Haha! i know. Its only a temporary thing. I used to have that bd1000a1 powering an eclipse SW9122 until the voice coil blew on me. That Type R is just something i stole from my brother to play with for a while. I'm currently in the market for an IDMAX 12D4v3. anyone know where i can find a good deal on one

IMHO you can not beat the price/performance ratio for this woofer.

Two words: Image Dynamics. Every sub they have is outstanding. They have subs from $150 to $500. IDQ for pure SQ. ID for more SPL but still SQ and the IDMAX for outstanding SQ and big SPL. Yes I am biased toward them.

Kicker L7's there square and will sound like 15's and are hella loud, only bad thing is you have to break them in before using them or else they'll blow

I know this is a shameless plug, but DLS subs are some of the best, purest sounding subs you can get on the market. You'll find them in IASCA championship sound quality winning cars. I'm selling a DLS MW12 right now

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/fs-1-new-dls-mw12-magnesium-competition-audiophile-subwoofer-%2Arare%2A-389705/

but the subs usually go for about 400-500 bucks each in retail. If you're going for spl (super high wattage and bass that is going to blow out your windshield), then it's probably not the sub for you. However, if you're looking for the purest sound quality available, I doubt you can find much better.

As stated, there's an LS400 with 4 of those mw12's that won the IASCA sound quality competition in Santa Fe. DLS products are no joke...it's just unfortunate not many know about them.

Image Dynamics also makes great subs, as well as Diamond, and I also like the old school Boston Acoustics (for mainstream stuff)..as well as elemental designs subs.

I want a DLS sub. they are def. good quality. Im in the process of swapping out the stock audio system and i plan to use either JL Audio W6's (or 7s) or DLS subs. I like the sound that the JL subs make and their factory is located here in south florida... good for warranty issues.

Long story short, i think JL or DLS is your best bet. i dont know much about the alpines
