sub/enclosure

I just got a 13.5" JLW6V2 today, but I can't seem to find any enclosures for it do people generally just custom make these?

I would never spend money on a store bought box.. It takes 30 bucks of MDF and a few bucks of screws, spray glue and carpet to make a box yourself.. I would decide how big a box you want (ported or unported) and spend a couple of hours building one yourself.

I have personally gone up 5dlb just by changing the box from a store bought square box (came free with the sub) to a custom made ported box..

The answer to your question is that most enclosures nowadays are off-the-shelf, but most off-the-shelf units are flimsy.

That woofer being an unusual size, JL intended it to be in a custom box most of the time (although I think you can get it from THEM in a very nice prebuilt custom box).

It takes 3/4 MDF, 1-1/2" drywayy screws, and glue and/or silicone clear caulk to make a box, true. It also takes a Skilsaw or table saw and the safe ability to use it, some wood shop experience, and some ability with drawing out dimensional drawings and taking material thicknesses into account.

I found it easy but I have found that a lot of people find it hard.

A more advanced approach is to make the rear of the box molded to the vehicle using fiberglass, attaching that to an MDF baffle, then glassing the entire thing inside to make it airtight. It's lighter than MDF, it's better in having no parallel internal sides, and it can look wayyyy better.

Or not...: )

Oh, and a ported box CAN be good or CAN be bad. If you've never built a box before, don't try it. Mkae your first one sealed.

And don't carpet any box until you've decided you like how it sounds. Otherwise it's a waste of time and money. Box building is fun and a good hobby, but you shouldn't assume you'll only build one...

lol thanks for the help guys, my friend suggested that he could make me one. I just wasn't too sure thats the route I wanted to go, cause I was wary about little details we might forget and it would sound like shit haha.

Well, it has to be the right internal volume, airtight, and stiff enough, or it WILL sound like shit.
