Still Have Noise

After my last post on this, I tried some more to track down alternator noise. I moved the new 12v constant from the grommet behind the parking brake to one Shawhite suggested above the gas pedal. It made no difference. I then ran a new 4 awg cable outside the car from the battery back to the trunk and into a distribution block and into my 300/4. It made no difference. No matter what I have tried, once the volume gets up around 60, which is 3/4 on the Eclipse units, the alternator whine is still there. Any more ideas. I think I am going to try and make a muting plug and try that to see if I can figure out where to go from here. I was reading on davidnavone.com about it. If anyone has anymore ideas, please feel free to pass them along.

Start at one end and work the other.

Try disconnecting the RCA's at HU, then plug them into an external source (walkman, boombox, etc) so that you have a separately derived ground on your signal source. Now with the HU off, see if the noise is still there.

I will try that. Should I just make a jumper from the 12 volt power at my amp to the remote wire. Since I should not have my head unit on, that is the only way to power up the amps.

yeah, you will want to have the amps on, while the hu is off. that way if the whine is still there, then you can deduce that the whine is eminating in either the wiring to the amps, the rca's, the speaker wire, etc. essentially it will eliminate the HU. i suspect you know all this though, so the next step i would suggest would be while in the process of doing this, if the whine persists, grab so extra rca's (if you have them) and using them going from your source to your amp (instead of the ones run trhough the car). if this doesn't help to eliminate the whine, then using the same set up, try a few diferent grounds. should the problem still be there then you know that it most likely lies in either the power wire, or the speaker wire. (my guess as it stands right now is the power wire, but unless i had my hands physically on it, i'm not sure what to suggest to fix it).

Few more things I did tonight.

Hooked up a portable right at the amp and no noise.
Hooked up a portable at the brain where the RCA's connect and no noise.
Hooked muting plugs up to both front and rear amp channels, no noise.

So it seems the noise is somewhere from the brain and forward. I took my JL 300/4 out and put in my brand new Eclipse EA3422 4 channel amp. Set the gains and had no noise. The JL is not bad it is just that the Eclipse matches alot better with the 8 volt out of the AV-8022. If I turn the gains up on the amp, the noise will appear but, the amp is labeled to set the gain properly. When set properly, no noise. Only problem is DVD are not loud enough. I am going to try bridging the amp tomorrow to see if the sound stays as clean and gets a little louder. Right now, it puts out 50 x 4. Bridged, it will put out 140 x 2. I am then going to use my little amp that came with the 8022 to power the rears.

Also, I will be selling my 300/4 and 500/1. Switching to Eclipse amps. Anyone interested, let me know.

Well, the best I can figure, the noise is coming from the wiring up in the dash. Not sure what all is getting in but, with my unit sitting in the seat, I plugged and unplugged the antenna and the noise was a little louder plugged in. Still not all gone unplugged but, for sure a difference. Do you all think maybe just some noise filters on the antenna and maybe on the yellow and red power wires as well??
