Sirius Radio with Alpine Headunit

So I have the Alpine CDA-7998 and the XM Tuner.

I don't like XM and want to get Sirius since I think their programming is GREAT.

How can I add a Sirius Tuner with the Alpine Headunit and not have to go FM Modulated

I see some have RCA Outputs that I think I can get RCA to AI-Net.

Do you think this is possible to go RCA AI-Net Input and just Use the Seperate Keypad for the Sirius Tuner ?

Seriously not to thread highjack Jon, but we go way back... Why do you not like XM?.. I heard everyone rant and rave about XM over sirrus... .. The Clarion headunit I want is Sirrus ready.. So tell me what is the differences are so i can make my decision.

do sirius tuners have rca outputs? if they do then yeah I don't see why that wouldn't work.

if you do decide to go that route, would you want to swap with me? I've got all the sirius stuff from my old kenwood deck sitting at home. I'll trade you sirius for xm.

You might want to hold out for a little while though- I do believe that Alpine is picking up Sirius and will have a Sirius tuner out in the near future.

where did you get this information?

they are releasing new xm tuner equipment for alpine at the end of the summer... this is brand new I can't imagine them adding sirius. just curious if you heard something I haven't.

btw the new stuff is a universal xm tuner that will work with any xm ready deck, with a brand specific adapter.

so instead of an alpine deck requiring an alpine xm tuner, you would have alpine deck connected to an xm branded tuner, with an adapter between them. this way if you switch decks, you just switch adapters instead of your entire satellite system.

Hey No problem

So I complain to XM a lot that I am tired of hearing the same song over and over on each station all the time. So I turn from one of the 3 Hits stations and I hear the same song on each station. Sometimes at the same time.

I've had it for ummm 2 or more years now. And just tired of it, and when doing my part time job, the car has Sirius, and over the weekends that I have the car, I love it

Never hear the same song within a hour, and a better playlist.

just my opinion.

You can even listen to Sirius on the web from work if you are a subscriber.... Kinda cool.

You can do a 3 day trial of Sirius on the web for free. Check it out. Think you'll like it

Yea this is what I was hearing, but seems there is no timeframe from what I could find on the web or from Alpine. Their Customer Service and News isn't that forthcoming

I work at Circuit city and that is what I have heard through the grapevine down from corporate I also a new merch report and it mentioned something about it as well. I could be wrong I meant to ask the regional sirius rep when he was in but I didn't have time, Im not making stuff up though-just the messenger. If you think about it though it doesn't really sound to far out there with the new system of universal tuners why would it not be just as easy for you to have an ai net adapter for a a sirius tuner, I always wondered why the radio manufactuers would limit themselves with only one service and eliminate an large portion of the car audio enthusiast community?

sorry didn't see this earlier...

yeah that will work too...that would be a pretty nice setup. that controller box has rca outputs, so just run that into the aux in of the 7998 and you are good to go.

I don't think that the 7998 will work with this tuner- as far as I know the head unit has to have the quick search function which is what seperates the 2004 headunits from the previous. I could be wrong but I have a pretty good feeling about it. This was my reasoning for going with the 9831 over the 9815. The 7998 is KCA-410C Multi-Versatile Link Terminal Compatible and as far as I know the Sirius unit is going to work in much the same way as the ipod connection box will work, (which also only works on 2004 and up headunits) and the Ipod model # is KCA-420i which makes me think that the you're outta luck. But, as more info comes out on the tuner itself you should be able to get a definate answer- I hope for your sake that Im wrong about this one, it would suck to spend $800 on a hu and not be able to have the direct connect DSR service of your choice.
