Removal of stock sub - effects on trunk sub?
I've been toying with the idea of removing the stock sub to allow a "port" for the bass from my IDMAX.
Have any of you done so and did you notice a difference? Is this something you'd recommend?
Theoretically it would turn the trunk into a huge vented enclosure since there will now be a 9" or so hole going directly into the cabin.
I'm probably going to do it anyway just to see for myself but I'd like to hear what you thought of it if you've done it.
Thanks.

personally bozz i dont think you will notice a big difference unless you port your box thru that hole... i know i tried both ways when i first put my sub in and really did not hear much of a difference..

you should hear a difference. try poping your center arm rest down once, it should be along the same lines

Maybe I'll just have to do it myself to see how it sounds both ways.
Thanks.

Sorry, I was not very clear I like having the stock sub removed. It gives me more sound from the subs especially since I fire them toward the rear seat. The glare is a little irritating at night.

personally i think the difference will be mental.. kind of like adding a cai to your car... it sounds cool so you think you car is faster but in actuality on the dyno there is no real hp gain.. same thing will apply here.. if you believe you are gonna hear a difference then you will but i will lay dollars to donuts that if you had the proper test equipment and checked it out you would see very little if any actual gain... just my opinion of course..

Sounds like it's not worth the trouble. Thanks for all of your responses!
You'll have to check my page when you get a chance. I just installed the JBL 608GTi comps. Once again I just had to go drilling and cutting. I didn't want to mount the tweeter in the sail panel so I made a hole in the door panel for it.
I don't know if it's the sound deadening material or what but these comps are definitely superior to the ID Chameleons! The tweeter is a bit on the bright side but since I'm used to listening to Klipsch speakers in my house I've gotten used to the brighter highs.

I removed the Blose (i mean Bose) sub and it made quite a bit of difference for my setup - 2 12" JL Audio W3V2 in a sealed box firing backwards towards trunk. With the Bose sub in, it sounded like my bass was muffled and not very deep. I also found that moving the box forward a bit instead of having it all the way back against the rear seat made a big difference for some reason. Lowering the armrest helped slightly, but I would say the difference was barely noticeable.
