Recomended 6x9's for 01 CL
I currently have a pair of CDT components up front and a 12 inch Eclipse sub in the trunk. Both are being ran off of a Rockford 551x 4 channel amp. I am thinking about getting rid of the sub and putting in some 6x9 in the rear deck. For some reason I have not been happy with my current setup.
Can anyone recomend a good set of 6x9's that can handle 80w RMS and fit my application with relative ease.
TIA

I guess it's just that I have a hard time really hearing the music. Other poeple who listen feel the same way. If I hook up my factory crapola speakers to my head unit for rear fill it sounds good until it gets loud then the rear speakers ruin the clarity of the fronts. I think its do to the placement of the front speakers that i cannot hear them as well. When I use the rears as fill the sound fills the cabin much more and the words really "hit my ears". The base is good from the sub but I am getting older and don't really need too much base. Although I do enjoy it, I would rather have better sound quality and fullness then car rattling base that rattles the trunk, read deck quarters ect. I think the rattling might be part of the problem as well.
I have been exploring doing some sound dampening first to see how much that helps. That could be my whole problem.
This is my first set up with out rear speakers and I have had it set up like this for 2 years now. Maybe I just feel the need for a change. I dunno.
I think I will def do the dampening and add better rear fill speakers before I delete the sub. You just cant get the same full base from a set of 6x9's
My other issue is that I cannot find a gain setting that i am happy with.
MY head unit, Eclipse 8445 has 8v pre outs and my amp takes up to 6.5
I have determined the volts that the amp should be putting out at max listening volume to set the gains. I will set them, keep them there for a while, then re-adjust. It's ongoing.
I just want it to sound clear and full. I bet the sound deadening and getting the gain ironed out would be a good place to start along with some better 6x9's for rear fill. any ideas? I hear a lot about the Alpines on here.

So is your bass overwhelming the rest of your soundstage? Have you tried turning down the gain on the sub channels?
I've never tried these, but I've always wanted to, and might pull the trigger one of these days
