Radio - switched power ?

Radio - switched power ?
For those of you using the the orange wire going into the factory sub amp as a trigger for your aftermarket amp I have a question.
I noticed soon after I installed the amp(6 months ago) that when the ignition is turned on with the HU power off my amp would still power up. Well, I've been playing around with the RMB-8 install, and while I had it apart I figured I would play with it for a bit. I found that putting a multimeter on the switched power lead that it indeed has 12V when you power up the ignition even when the HU is shut off. The only way to shut it down is to turn on the HU then turn it off. Why did Bose design their system where the sub amp is on all the time in this instance?
Try it! Make sure your HU is off, then turn the ignition off then on after a few seconds. Then go to the trunk to see if your amp is on. Is it just me? I can't imagine it's the EQ bypass.
Dr Cookie,
I'll keep ya posted on what I think, But soooooo farrrrrrrr I may want more. I'm not done playing with the gains and crossover settings, but it seems to clip a wee bit lower than I would like. It could be that I'm just spoiled with the rest of it

Mine didn't have enough juice to kick on the amp (even with the stock amp completely out of the car), so I tapped a wire inside the driver's fuse box that works with the ignition...I just never turn the stereo off. When the volume is all the way down, it actually completely cuts all the sound like it's off.
If someone screws up and turns the HU off, you hear a REALLY loud thud on the bass speakers

Swampgas,
Have you considered using one of these?:relay
One of these would solve your problem as far as getting your amp to power on and off with the HU(except for the issue I outlined above).
As far as the turn-off pop, I had the same thing happen. Check out my other post on "Another RMB-8 installed".
